Fruta Fresca means Fresh Fruit in Español and I have been going to this fruit stand for quite some time. I was just too lazy to create a Unilocal page until today because I was hoping that someone else would. Nobody ever did BTW, therefore I created the page, dammit! Anyways, what can I say other than that this is probably the best $ 5 you will spend on Mid-Wilshire. Maria mans — I mean«womans» — this fruit stand attached to a pickup truck that is parked in front of Wells Fargo between 9AM to 4PM. Just be warned that she is not set up until 9:30ish though because she needs the prep time to cut up all the fruit. Sadly, she can’t extend her hours because on this strip of Wilshire there is a fascist tow-away anti-gridlock policy from 7 to 9AM and 4 to 7PM where the meter maid dickbutts work in connivance with the chilitos from Viertel’s to tow people away like no other. On any given day, except Sunday when she takes the day off, Maria has at least ten fruits to make a fruit salad out of. Everything from cantaloupes, mangos, and pineapples to off-the-beaten-path stuff like papayas, coconuts, and jicamas(I believe jicama is a root that tastes like a cross between a daikon radish and a turnip and is technically not a fruit, but who cares!). Moreover, to cater to the entitled millennial crowd, Maria even allows you to pimp your fruit salad by choosing which fruits you want — all at no additional cost. For example, if you just want honeydew melóns, you can get only honeydew melóns. Also, if you have a weird allergy to watermelon or some other fruit like a cabron, you can request to not have that fruit added as well. I for one, always get a little of everything with extra crunchy green mango. The small is $ 3 or $ 4(not 100% sure of the price) since I always get the large because you get more bang-for-your-buck for $ 5. Oh and it’s CASHONLY. I also like to add a little chili and lime salt to my fruit medley to create a sweet, sour, and spicy taste-station(taste sensation). So, if you like fruits or are on a diet, definitely stop by Fruta Fresca and have Maria«toss» you up a fruit«salad» for you. If you become a regular, it helps to tip her a $ 1 for added fruit. I think she likes me because I speak Spanish to her… then again, she might think I’m just an annoyance the way Freddy from House of Cards entertained Frank Underwood out of pity. * Having just come back from Honolulu, there are more fruit options at this cart in the middle of Koreatown than the KCC Farmer’s Market and all the ABC stores combined.
