Best authentic, home style burger I’ve had. My daughter doesn’t like burgers but she eats there’s all the time. Burgers are so good that you can eat then plain and still have lots of flavor. Try the royal burger.

ORDERAHEAD!!!’ Great food good good-quality polite service. But I simply don’t understand how I can order 40 minutes ahead and still have to wait 15 minutes when I get there. Otherwise a great spot.

Ive lived seconds from here all my life, never taken the time to come here. I have been a vegetarian for 10 years now so there wasnt a reason to come. i looked for veggie burgers on Unilocal, and freds popped up as the closest to me. i realized I had seen this place much of my life, but never ventured in. I got the veggie burger(be sure to as for cheese bc it wont come with it). I got the works on a wheat bun and an order of fries. /best fries ever, excellent veggie pattie. the only other veggie burger ive tried besides my own, is mikes deli dwn the way on slauson… and by far, fred’s has got them beat. Sometimes places like this make me miss meat, but i really appreciate wen they adapt a veggie option to such a carnivorous menu. itd b cool to see the veg menu evolve(like a mushroom burger or some avocado etc.) But thanks anywho… will b coming around plenty in the coming months. Really nice staff too. I like my pple. to Vanessa, who posted and blamed a whole race for ones person’s rudeness to her, dont be a benedict arnold. grow up and learn that every person, despite color, has the capacity to be rude… and every person has the capacity to be mature. you should try the former.

I think what keeps me coming back here is that they just do their burgers well and get creative with them! I’ve gotten different burgers every time I have come. The service here is relatively quick; with bigger parties, you might have to wait some time to get your burger, but overall, it’s a pretty fast-paced place!

Wish I can give them a 5 star rating because the food is really good, but the service coincides with the neighborhood — GHETTO. Attempted to make a phone order this evening, 30 mins prior to closing and the female staff member taking orders at the window, left me on hold for 15 mins. I called from Crenshaw and Olympic and was still on hold when I arrived. I spoke to a manager on duty whom was very apologetic, but not the staff member, she insisted on taking my order, laughing as though her unprofessionalism was funny and NEVER apologized for her mannerism. Just stated to her other coworkers how her working Sunday evenings has her customer service etiquette at a disarray! How sad and yet wonder why most African Americans are classified as ghetto people with no form of etiquette and must be subjected to this type of behavior! I will not be returning after tonight!

I just didn’t care for this burger. I cut it in half, then only ate half of that. The meat had a weird texture, wasn’t seasoned very well, and although it took long– neither my fries or my burger was warm. I also paid extra for lemonade and that wasn’t sweet enough and tasted very much like that bottled lemon juice. The fries would’ve been good had they been hot. Wont be back. The End.

I have gone down Slauson so many times I couldn’t count them on my hands and feet. Always I have passed this place without giving this joint a chance. Well today not this time. Something prompted me to find a hole in the wall burger spot. Boy did I luck up. Me and my friend decided to give this spot a go. Fred’s definitely did not disappoint. I ordered the Fred’s King and my friend got the Turkey Burger. When I tell you the quality of the meat and buns beats any Umami burger or any other 15 dollar/20 dollar hipster burger place, I am telling you the honest truth. The lemonade super fresh from scratch. This place will always have my business, no doubt about it.

If you like burger stand burgers you’ll appreciate Fred’s. If you are fancy, not from around the way, need great customer service, never had pickles n nownlaters, or on a diet, Fred’s isn’t for you. Plus if you worried about waiting 14 – 20 minutes then you don’t like food thoroughly cooked Cuz that’s about how long it takes to cook a fresh meat patty through. The Royal was a once in a lifetime experience for me… Cuz you know my arteries and all. However, the fries… they make home fries from what taste like fresh potatoes. Thick cut with season salt. Very tasty. It’s a burger stand so if your feelings are going to get hurt don’t come here for customer service excellence.

Great customer service! Good food portions, however burgers had no flavor. I’m uncertain about what seasonings are used. I wish I could give more stars I was just very disappointed in the flavor.

I’m not a big Unilocal reviewer, so when I am moved to do so it has to be for a reason. Fred’s Downhome Burgers gave me that reason! Don’t be fooled by its hood location, this is one of the best burgers and fries you will ever taste. Great price on the combo for really good quality meat. And Fred gives exceptional customer service every time I’ve gone. I’ve driven past this place for many years and just recently decided to stop. That was a week ago and I’ve been back 3 times since. The Grandma burger is definitely my favorite. And the chili fritos bring back childhood nostalgia If you are looking for a good, old-fashioned, burger without all the fancy frills of high-end restaurants taking away from what it’s actually supposed to be, this is the place. You will not be disappointed.

Great Unilocal find! This place serves up tasty and affordable fast food. Burger is as good as everyone says — juicy, flavorful, with a nice char-grilled taste. Chili fries are a must!

Sucks. Was really excited to try this place out based on the reviews. Ended up very disappointed. Ordered my food to go and had ordered egg and bacon on my burger only to discover it had neither. Good size burger but nothing special. I love fries and I ended up giving these away. Glad I tried it & can avoid coming here.

We did not understand what the hype was all about after receiving our food. First off after waking the girl at the window, we were able to finally order once she came to. We ordered the Fred’s King Burger special. The burgers tasted just as Fresh & Meaty burgers on Florence. The buns could have been a bit more softer and a bit more seasoning on the meat please. The king patty also did not seem so ‘king’ in size either. I mean, after waiting for 40 minutes for 2 burger combos, the least we could’ve received were well-seasoned/nice sized king burgers with not so burnt french fries! Well at least we found out what the hype was about– not our type of hype!!! Still searching for that bomb a** burger joint! Sincerely, On a Mission

Rating: 70⁄100 pts 3 stars for food quality, rounded up to a borderline 4 for value. I skipped the turkey and tacos and went straight for the Fred’s Burger combo. For a little over $ 6, what you get is a good buy – both filling and satisfying. The burger meat was tasty and adequately juicy, the weakest part being the bun, which was plain and generic. As a welcome change of pace, the fries were surprisingly excellent. Cut thick, full of potato, and seasoned just right – these have the potential to be amazing if served straight out of the fryer.(They had cooled a bit when I got mine). Some pluses: — All ingredients are purchased that day — All meals are cooked fresh after being ordered — Spacious parking — EBT friendly Some minuses: — Meals cooked fresh means meals take time; expect a 15 – 20 minute wait after ordering — No indoor seating, but a few tables outside Fred’s does not fit into the burgeoning category of gourmet burgers. As the name suggests, this is very much a home-cooked, picnic grill-style burger. While I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here, I wouldn’t mind stopping in from time to time when nearby. Don’t come expecting something fancy or trying to impress a date; if you enjoy a good street burger, however, I’m fairly certain you’ll enjoy Fred’s.
