My favorite place in the whole wide world. It’s members only but I’m a member. So if you know a member ask them to give you a little tour of the bar. Great place to watch the games.

My neighborhood is awesome. I found an ad in the Boulevard News for a champagne breakfast at the local Eagles Club, hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2188. On Sundays, twice a month, six dollah will get you assorted juices, coffee, tea, homemade pancakes, eggs however you like ‘em, biscuits and gravy, toast and bacon or sausage and potatoes. When the men’s club hosts breakfast, you also get champagne and omelettes. Best deal in town. We were greeted by some lovely ladies dressed in their Sunday best with nifty hats and pearls. I am going to call them Doris and Gloria. Gloria and Doris took our orders and chatted us up. They told us all about the Eagles Club and invited us to their next Margarita Night for dancing. The community atmosphere was quiet and pleasant, with cheerily decorated indoor picnic tables and chatting locals. Everyone was in a good mood and people even smiled at us! I always wondered what went on in that old Eagles Club building, and I’m delighted that I deigned to find out. For a mere 6 bones, I had one of the most delightful brekkies ever, and I plan on going back as often as possible. What a gem!

I’ll admit I have no idea what lodges do. I don’t know what the Eagles stand for. I don’t know what the Elks stand for. I always thought lodges wore crazy hats like the Royal Order of the Water Buffalo on the Flintstones. My girlfriend and I were looking at the Eagle Rock/Highland Park paper, The Boulevard Sentinel, and we read that the fraternal order of the Eagles were having a «Wild Game BBQ» and giving away a Flat Screen TV. I like meat. I need a new TV. Admission: ten bucks. We wrote it on the calendar and screamed, «WYLDBARBECUE» a la Bill and Ted at each other all week. What would be served? Badger? Platypus? When they day finally came, we could smell exotic meats in the air as we approached the hall. There was one man in a funny hat at the front doing the raffle. There were a lot of drunk people. There were a lot of drunk injured people. There were a lot of drunk injured people spilling their drinks. We made our way to the back of the hall where there was Buffalo Burger, Buffalo Steak, Moose Burger, Elk and a few other things. We ate all of it. We drank a cheap beer. We didn’t win a TV. We left. It was a weird experience but it was a solid meat experience. I’ll definitely go back.
