I like«divey» atmosphere, but I am not a real dive bar kinda-a-gal. Franks N Hanks is wall-to-wall dive bar, no doubt about that. It has all that you can ask for at a bar with a pool table, darts and a jukebox. It is a place that you can roll out of bed in the evening, put on a tee and a pair of jeans with a trucker hat for a drink or two… A rare find in a city where botox injection is as popular as detox and juicing. The bartender was friendly and honest… It was Monday night and she announced that the bar is running low on some stuff after its weekend business as soon as we walked in. This is just drinks place, no food, so eat something before you head in if you plan to drink the night away. P. S. It smells like sweat and stale cigarette when you first walk-in, but you can used to it. Nearest Metro Station: Purple Line at Wilshire/Western Station

Happy King Kamehameha Day & Five Star Fri, but its also my last review for a couple of weeks. I’m headed on vacay to a place that doesn’t have Unilocal.Sorry in advance if I don’t like your checkins, pics, and if I don’t read your reviews until the 27th or so. My buddy who lives in KTown has been telling me about this dive bar, Frank N Hank’s for some time now. To give you a mental perspective of what it is like, think of the Monte Carlo Bar(featured on Tony Bourdain when he is hanging out w/Roy Choi). FNH is just a little cleaner, and its located on Western &5th in KTown. We ordered top shelf liquor for $ 6/drink(yes, you heard me correctly). The cost was half of what you would normally pay in LA. The bartender was super cool, and he poured some stiff drinks. He is a tequila drinker like me, so he bought my first drink. Likewise, the ambiance is old skool. There is a long bar, a jukebox, and a pool table in the back. Peeps are chill. KTown obviously has Korean restaurants, sooljips(drinking establishments), and karaōke places. However, there are a lot of non-Korean type places like FNH also. If you are in the area looking for inexpensive & stiff drinks, FNH is your place.

This place is listed under bars with pool tables – but the list of amenities says NO pool table. I called the place to confirm but they weren’t open. Unilocal???

The feels of a San Francisco dive in Koreatown. I stumbled here via Unilocal with a group of friends after hitting Beer Belly. I questioned the bartender’s ability to make an old fashioned however i was pleasantly shocked at how good they were! This place is great for quick drinks with friends or a quick hang out. There is also a pool table and some darts.

One of my fav dive bars! Cheap and strong drinks! Great atmosphere! Love any and all Bukowski places! Drink up and stay thirsty my friends! Cheers!

I dig it. A dive but clean, nothing that’ll break the bank. I’ll be back with more friends!

Darts, pool table, jukebox, and drinks. What more could you want? Like Girth B. wrote, no fluff kind of bar: not trendy, hip, or modern at all, but not in a bad way. Older regular crowd. Felt like it was in the middle of Louisiana versus Los Angeles.

Ok, Ok. It’s got a divey vibe, a pool table, an electronic dart board and a juke box. Small, carpeted, decently clean bathrooms(no TP but they did have paper towels) and a good IPA in a bottle for $ 6. The bartender kept turning up the jukebox whenever Bob Marley came on the radio so I’m guessing he’s a huge fan… I like the no frills deal.

Worst experience ever! From the moment we entered the bar the bartender was rude. Telling customers to fuck off and to get out if they didn’t like it. He didn’t even know how to make a mai tai. He ruined our night. I used to love it when the last owner was there. The new bartender is bullshit! That bartender needs to get fired. We will never go back. It sucks because I used to love this bar.

Nice, chill, and very intimate bar. I can see this place being a problem if it were to get too crowded. The jukebox is a nice touch and my god, the drinks are cheap… wow.

I live a few blocks away and was worried when Beer Belly took over my local dive. But they just painted and added support for credit card cards, it’s still a tiny dive, just darker and friendlier. If you want something dirtier than HMS Bounty but not as scary as Monty Carlo, it’s perfect. Go! Give them your money!

Heard from the previous owner last year that she was finally selling the joint after many years of operation. Older, tired, kids out of school, time to go back to her home country and take care of a relative. Of course it was sad to hear as this was a great dive bar. Cheap drinks, quick service, nice assortment of disparate types congregated for the same reason. So with some trepidation went back recently during the week and saw that all was still well with the world. Other than a new bartender not much had changed. Nothing in fact. Well, the prices did go up, of course. But now at least you can pay with a credit card(oh how I loathe those asian joints that still only take cash). The 21st century has arrived here. And, they still have boilermakers specials. Progress balanced with tradition, my friends.

This place was recently bought out by the owner of Beer Belly. I will miss Snow the bartender! She was amazing. I hope the new owner will preserve the vibe of the place. It’s such a neat little bar and one of the last original old school dive bars in Koreatown.

Highly rated on Unilocal, and I can see why. Definitely not the fanciest of bars, and I wouldn’t come here if you’re looking for a trendy nightspot, or hipstery craft cocktails. This is purely a neighborhood dive bar, and a great one, at that. Prices are cheap, the setting’s comfy, and it’s a very friendly, homey atmosphere. There’s a pool table, jukebox and darts — maybe a little too close to comfort for those sitting at the end of the bar, but still… Cash only.

Place is a lot smaller than expected lol. It seems like a decent play to pre game and have a few drinks before bar hopping but it’s literally a tiny hallway. They have pool and darts though which is cool.

Not much to say Cheap drinks, good selection, regulars are friendly, family owned and operated business. If the barkeeper is mad at you then you are being a dick and need to rethink life. I used to go here 3 times a week before I moved, and I’ve seen my share of unfriendly irrational customers. The place is cash only and if you cant understand why a place that sells $ 3 beers and $ 6 shots can’t accept cards then leave. The place is pretty old and you can tell its been here before the appearance of koreatown. Snow and everyone who works at the bar are extremely friendly and are pretty knowledgeable bartenders, but be reasonable since there is normally one or two bartenders on deck, no complex fruity drinks when its crazy busy and you’ll have a good time. Great bar

First of all, I’ve lived in this area of LA my whole life, well within a 5 mile radius of this place, but had never gone inside… I’ve always noticed it, usually a smoker crowd hanging out front would grab my attention, and I’d say to myself or to whom ever would be with me, «I’ve gotta go check that little bar out one of these days»… Well I finally did and I was pleasantly surprised… Casual yet grungy, small yet cozy plus good drinks at a reasonable price. Will go back soon…

One of my favorite bars in LA. I used to come here all the time after the nearby Beer Belly’s absurdly early last call, and it was always a welcome relief after the altogether more hoity-toity experience that the Beer Belly provides. Kind of like watching Pink Flamingos to unwind after a Terence Malick marathon. The drinks are cheap and the people are always decent. You get a good mix here, but it tends to put off some of the dull young people who invade the Hollywood bars of an evening — a perfect combination. Snow is lovely; don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else behind the bar, but she’s got it under control. Somehow the music is always listenable as well, a rarity for an LA bar, even more of a rarity for an LA bar with a jukebox. It feels a bit rough too, I like that. Living in West Hollywood, it’s very easy to become a bit numbed by the upper middle-class Runyon Canyon hiking lentil-chewers that surround you, so it’s nice to occasionally find yourself in a place where you might have to step outside because«something’s going on in the bathroom». Sadly I don’t have much cause to be in Koreatown of late, but this’d be the first bar I recommend to anyone in the area.

Fun dive bar. The owner Snow sets a good vibe and people you might not see interact normally play pool and shoot the shit at the small bar together. Great juke box and darts! May Frank and Hank’s live long and prosper!

Snow rules! Single-handedly handles sports morons, coke-heads, college drunks, and other types of fools without having to raise a finger. Say something nice to her in Vietnamese and she’ll heavy pour your drinks. The jukebox has some good choices on it. Minus one star cuz I dont like dive bars, overall. Keep up the good work!

So I can’t really write a fair review, came in with a bunch of friends and the bartender wouldn’t serve me… Not sure why, I was sober and quite clearly sober, but our friends decided to leave as a result. The bartender was quite rude, the crowd wS just a bunch of Middle Aged men and it was pretty uneventful

This is a good dive! The drinks are poured strong, they’re reasonably priced, the service is good and the patrons are laid back and chill. The bar in dark and narrow. At the back of the bar there is a sine electronic dart board and a pool table. It’s never hard to find a new friend to play a game with. Everyone I’ve ever encountered is always friendly. No smoking patio in the back. You have to smoke out front on the sidewalk1. You aren’t allowed to smoke inside and I like that. Nothing worse than second hand smoke drifting into your face! Snow(the bartender/owner) is very hospital and friendly. She pours with a heavy hand!!! $ 2.00PBR on Wednesday nights! I love dive bars and this place would have gotten 5 stars from me but for one thing… They’re cash only. Other than that, I like it a lot!

I’m a gal of extremes. After a wholesome, yet ultimately ending in tears, trip to see a Disney movie at the nearby CGV Cinemas, my debauchery levels were dangerously low. To bring them up, I needed booze or a cigarette STAT. The perfect solution? Frank N Hanks! What a find, I tell you. Dive bar with stained carpet and a jukebox equals a happy Amy S. The wells are only $ 4(cash only) and the clientele is an interesting mix. The jukebox has got all the solid gold oldies I could ask for. There’s a pool table in back and the bathroom situation isn’t half bad. The lady behind the bar was either appalled at how much we were drinking and wanted to inflict a guilt trip OR she forgot who we were, because she asked for my ID twice. Meh. Still got served! Will most def return.

Frank N Hanks is everything you want in a dive bar; dark, cheap and fun. The low key atmosphere is perfect for a night of drinking and catching up with friends. There are always a few regulars on hand, but be sure to leave your attitudes and pretentions at the door as the owner/regulars don’t suffer fools. If you’ve ever received bad treatment, you probably deserved it. Along with a great vibe, the bar has no frills kitschy décor along with a well-used coin operated pool table, electronic dart board and a well-stocked jukebox. Be warned, the bar is cash only and street parking availability is dependent on when you arrive. Frank N Hanks is the type of bar where you want them to know your name. I’m glad they know mine!

Good dive bar walking distance from where I live. Drinks are cheap and the Vietnamese lady behind the counter is friendly. There’s nothing too special about it but this place can be pretty packed from people who just need a quick drink or two. It’s also a good place to drink before a show at the wiltern to avoid the overpriced drinks. Only street parking and remember to bring cash. There are pool tables in the back of the place.
