«Deckkk da’ harrz’ wiff’ boughs of harr’reyyyy… Fah Rah Rah… Rah Rahhhhr… Rah Rah Rah Rahrrrrr…» Bahahahahaha!!! — I swear I LOVVVVVE the heck out of that«Christmas Story» movie and watch it ALLLL day long when it airs annually on TBS and TNT for 24 hours!!! The ending scene, depicting dinner at a Chinese/Cantonese restaurant is EPICCCC! — — - ______________________________________ Unilocal has yet to fail me when it comes down to locating great cuisine yet the closest we seem to come to authentic Chinese in LA, as it appears… seems to be «Chinatown». Thought I’d treat the both of us to «dinner» …and a massage yesterday evening and while on Unilocal, shortly thereafter — Fortune Gourmet popped up. What concerned me was that there are no recent reviews. Aside of 2 that are just shy of 8 months old, the rest are 3 years stale dated. We walked in blindly, completely unaware of what to expect. Located on Broadway just beyond Oro, sits the bi-level 727 Chinese«strip mall»(it’s on the right when traveling north). Parking is accessible as not only are there an abundance of lots within surrounding areas, but we actually managed to score street parking. While upstairs within said retail«center», Fortune Gourmet is neither glitzy nor is it glamorous. That stated, prices are dirt cheap for the absurd inundation of food they provide customers!!! As cliché as it is, we ordered the duck, which were followed by the clams, served with a spicy been black sauce. Tag on some orange chicken(with a side of white rice) and we had ANABSOLUTEFEAST!!! {LET’S TALKCUISINE} — - - — The duck was absolutely amazing. For $ 9 – 10 this was by far the highlight of my week. From start to finish, it practically melted in our mouths and somehow managed to take me to a «happy place». I considered ordering another helping just to take home. Luckily we reside closely enough for me to stop by mid-commute home! — My orange chicken assessment — MUST — undergo hiatus for a quick disclaimer. Ya’ know how you visit a number of Chinese places — be they dine in or take out, and the consistency just isn’t right? Soooo not the case here. This chicken was served with portions large enough to rival any buffet. Thereon it was sweet without being too sweet and crisp as opposed to soggy. — And the clams, …Lord yes. Hallelujah for some place getting it right!!! There was no grit or dirt and the bean sauce was to die for! While my tongue didn’t necessarily stick to the pole —- it certainly stuck to the plate because I licked the hell out of it! Customer service was spot on and each of our requested items managed to arrive in a frighteningly rapid amount of time — without tasting pre-cooked or reheated! Star worthy within itself. This spread only set my wallet back $ 35.00!, and we were presented fortune cookies as well as orange slices prior to departing. Not only did we leave as full as ticks but we had enough for dinner tonight as well! #an-absolute-investment * Sure… we were hungry again within an hour, but I’m willing to charge that to the game.

this place has some great food at really reasonable prices, kinda a small place but we found seating easilly. food wasn’t incredibly fast but thats expected when getting fresher food. definitely worth the wait, a great place to stop by if you’re in the area. I’d definitely reccomend it.

I tried the peking pork chops, walnut shrimp, and salt and pepper bass and they were DELICIOUS. Service was bad but it’s expected from a Chinese restaurant. Definitely recommend.

I’m really surprised by the 4 star rating here… I will say that the service wasn’t bad. They were prompt and courteous. But the food was SOO. Blah. We ordered the house special chicken(#64), sweet and sour pork and walnut shrimp. I think the best thing here was the tea. And that was very basic. The house special chicken was okay. Not much meat. It’s just average. The sweet and sour pork should be called sweet and sour beading. THEREWASSERIOUSLYNOMEAT… Even the big pieces were just breading! Seriously, my bf and I just. Were so sad. We were looking forward to this dish. Not even worth the cheap price bc there was NOMEATINSIDE. It was just marinated fried breading. I was also really looking forward to the walnut shrimp because. Who can mess this dish up?! Unfortunately the mayo tasted a little off. As though they scooped it straight from the jar. It wasn’t like other walnut shrimp dishes I’ve had. It was just a little weird. The walnuts were good though. This was a big disappointment. Even though the price is cheap, not worth it. This might be the worst family style Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to ;(I feel bad for saying this because the service was decent and they brought the food out pretty quickly. But the food was extremely lacking. I’ll never come here again unfortunately :/ Our meal in total was ~$ 23. I guess you get what you pay for. Well actually I feel like we got less than we paid for: X

Fortune Gourmet catered a casual lunch for 30 Chinese delegates and professionals for me with two hour’s notice and did a great job. The food was delicious, authentic, and a very fair price. Everyone who works here is very nice as well! I highly recommend the shrimp with eggplant!

My boyfriend and I have come here a couple of times now and it is best to come after 1 pm when there is little wait. Once we came at almost noon on a Sunday and the wait was really long and if it weren’t because we really like the food we probably would have left. We’ve tried the Orange Chicken but we prefer ordering the Sweet and Sour Pork. It comes with chunks of onions, peppers and pineapple. One of my favorite dishes. We also order the Mongolian Beef. A must try! We also order the Calamari and Jalapeños with extra lemons. My bf loves the Crispy Noodles. We typically order them with the chicken but we’ve also ordered them with the shrimp. The service is always great and the wait isn’t that long once you order the food. I would like it even more if they served beer but I guess it’s a good thing they don’t or else the wait would be extremely long to be seated.

Stopped in to pick up lunch. Took my order to go. My go to dishes for any chinese restaurant is beef chow fun and pan fried dumplings. The order ran me about $ 13 and the wait wasnt bad. Theres a min of $ 20 to use a credit card fyi. The chow fun was kind of bland tasting even though I ordered it with the black bean sauce. As others have mentioned before me… there feels like a high level of msg in the food. The dumplings were terrible. Even drowning them in soy sauce didnt help. Avoid them if possible. The portion sizes are tremendous. But higher quantity of a bad quality doesnt mean squat.

Ordered eggplant, Chinese broccoli, dumplings, and black bean chicken. The broccoli was meh, a bit undercooked. The chicken and the eggplant were spot on. The dumplings were very disappointing. This was way too much food for two — serving sizes are very fair for the price. Overall, the food was good and authentic. I would recommend this restaurant and try it again.

I only giving them one star due to the taste of the food but I can totally tell that it has a lot of MSG. Service is horrible and I honestly felt discriminated because we were ignored and the waiter was so rude. He told us to «hurry up with the order» he did not even gave us our drinks right away. The price was ok but service and the bathroom were nasty. This place needs to close down!

I order the best and the price is still cheap … under $ 9 bucks for lunch. The food is excellent.. you have to order the French style filet mignon or the walnut shrimp. excellent!

Chinatown, Los Angeles, CA: Satisfying lunch, overall! Dinner quality at economy lunchtime prices! Smaller restaurant with two dining rooms, linen tablecloths, table service. Pictures of featured items posted along one wall. Complimentary steamed, white rice and soup appetizer. OURFOOD Crispy Deep Fried Chicken, $ 8.25 Beef Broccolli, $ 6.25 Chicken with Cashew Nuts, $ 6.25 Crispy Walnut Shrimp, $ 8.25 The Crispy Deep Fried Chicken was a whole, small chicken, very nicely done, a touch well-cooked. Very crispy skin, shrimp ships, dish of seasoned/toasted salt. Amazing dealfor just $ 8.25! Beef Brocolli was standard in taste but surprisingly tender, the veggies cooked just right! There were just a few cashew nuts in the average tasting, Chicken with Cashew Nuts, but it had a plethora of celery slices, too much. My first time having Crispy Walnut Shrimp. The shrimp was fresh tasting and the batter light but the sweetened mayonnaise sauce just didn’t work for me. The walnuts were wonderfully toasted and tasty! The complementary soup for us was Lotus Root with red beans, savory and flavorful. The free pot of rice was graciously refilled when asked. Tea was also included at no additional charge. The cost, under $ 32 for the complete meal and table service, is an outstanding value. Any critical remarks are personal taste preferences. Do give this place a try at lunch time! Street parking is best as the parking structure is a tight squeeze, I’m told.

Edible at best when you are starving. Lot of MSG, enough to put me down for the rest of the evening. The pea shoots were missing garlic and lacking flavor. Everything was slightly on the bland side, but we were incredibly thirsty afterward, which again points toward MSG involvement. Everything was subpar. The service was on par of what you would expect in Chinatown. Location: 2nd floor on the corner in the plaza Parking: garage that’s validated for 1.5 hours if they give you any(which they didn’t give us even when we asked for a validation sticker. We were denied because we happened to have some posted on from the market downstairs… so we ended up paying $ 4.35 in the end)

Sam found this place for my parents during their vacation trip. We’ve been here about 3x now and the food is consistent Cantonese food. Some dishes are not done the way our family likes: lamb stew and the beef brisket stew. Otherwise everything we’ve ordered has been good. See my photos… Duck and watercress soup, steamed fish, snow peas leaves. The prices are very reasonable and there are lunch specials too and usually complimentary lunch soup. On the board are the specials of the day but you need to read Chinese for those. We paid $ 44+ tip for our dinner meal which was enough for 4 people. You can park in a nearby lot which offers validation(cannot remember which one) or on the street. It’s free after 8pm.

$ 20 for three dishes, huge barrel of rice and soup? How can you go wrong? Nothing fancy here but your typical chinese mom and pop eatery.
