RIP Foodlab. I found myself impressed by your opening, visited a few times, and really enjoyed some of our dishes. Eventually, my impression of you lost touch with my own experiences, and became an ongoing contemplation of why your place, as time went on, seemed to grow deserted. What happened instead is I became one of those people who just stopped coming because it seemed like others were no longer coming as well. Where else did we go? I continued to haunt places within walking distance of me, regardless of whether they are good or bad or expensive or cheap. I upped my visits to variety concepts such as Grand Central Market, where the responsibility of providing a satisfying experience is transferred from one menu/style to more than a dozen. I gave more respect to destination eating, such as ventures to neighborhoods like Koreatown or San Gabriel Valley, or to places like a top-tier establishment, where offerings bears some sense of origin if not originality. And I kept on with the trend practice of trying the new place. That’s how I found you. I’d like to offer some insight into what made your restaurant not take root on a part of Sunset that could use good food. In the end, I think it probably was mostly an issue of the block having poor parking options.

Uggg fraggle rock! I thought I was trippin but this place is really gone. I love the Buffalo Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich! Plus it comes with cornichons… YASSS!!! The bottled up cucumber lemonade is good too. Guess I’ll have to go up to the WeHo location. It’s worth it though. RIP Silverlake Foodlab

I had a proscuitto(spelling) and Fig sandwich. It was amazing. Plus I was running late, called ahead and it was waiting for me when I got there. I savored it quickly and ran off to my date :) Prices are high but if that is what quality costs, I’ll splurge every so often.

Good sandwiches and coffee. A little pricey for the amount of good they give you. Sandwiches don’t come with any kind of side salad, potato chips etc. Annoying to have to pay for a side… But otherwise, this is a cute, quaint ill’ sandwich spot in the heart of silverlake, with fun little stores on the same block to pop in and out of.

Tucked in between a small row of «blink and you miss it» shops is the deli/market Foodlab. While I haven’t yet eaten a true meal in the dining area, I’ve swung by to get take out quite a few times. If you don’t like dealing with Silver Lake Blvd.‘s ridiculous parking, or Sunset Junction’s somehow even more terrible parking, this stretch between the two has never been a problem for me. The take out menu(separate from the dine in menus) is jam packed with gourmet sandwiches, salads, and even fine cheeses. There are also vegan and vegetarian options denoted with small symbols on the menu. While I’ve tried a few things on the menu, my favorite has to be the organic turkey breast(with brie, pears, honey, and fig compote on wheat bread). Exactly as good as that sounds is how delicious it is. The brie slices are thick and melty, the pears are cooked nicely, and even with honey and fig compote the bread doesn’t get soggy on the drive home! With plenty of lunch and take out choices in the area, Foodlab stays consistently delicious and my order is always served up before my meter expires!

The experience did not start too well. They need to figure something out with the parking situation, because I had to drive around the block looking for parking I ended up being pulled over and receiving a ticket but hey that was my fault but it was also because of lack of parking. Finally found a spot and we ordered our sandwiches. I got the chicken gouda, my gf got the chicken BLT and my brother got the steak sandwich. I got a little taste from all three and my favorite was the steak sandwich, it was full of flavor. The two other chicken sandwiches were really dry, felt like the chicken was over cooked. The salad we got which is in my picture was pretty good. I just fell as though the food was not worth the price we paid which was about 39 bucks. After the meals we also decided to get the juices they had and they were pretty good, we got strawberry and cucumber lemonade.

Got exactly what I wanted… A well priced, healthy, and delicious lunch served by nice and helpful people. I’m new to town and will definitely be back here again.

The sandwiches are amazing and I can’t wait to come back and try more. The organic grilled chicken BLT was a joy to devour & the chicken sandwich w/gorgonzola & fig was wonderful as well. Both sandwiches had delicious bread and you could tell Foodlab put a lot of thought into their dishes. Enjoyed the minty water with a slight hint of cucumber. Easy seating and a quick walk from my house. I think we will be back many times.

I wanted a salad and a quick Unilocal search brought me here. Holy salads Batman! So many choices! I settled on the Buffalo Mozarella salad with the help of the cashier. Now I love meat, so it is rare that I order something meatless… But this was amazing! The mozarella was the best I’ve had and a generous portion. The olive tapenade and pesto made the lemon vinaigrette almost unnecessary.(The vinaigrette was amazing too though!) Thank goodness they left it on the side. I plan on coming back to try the other salads as well as the sandwiches they offer! They have breakfast also, but I didn’t take much of a look at it. The place is cute, very country café in France. Not spacious but good for a few people lunching together. It is on Sunset Blvd so parking can be slightly terrifying but generally available. I was on the fence about giving one less star due to slightly high pricing but my salad was quality and a good portion. Buffalo Mozarella isn’t cheap and they weren’t stingy so I’m going with 5 for now! Just be prepared to pay a little bit more for lunch if you’re coming here, but know everything is on point and worth the money. YUM!

I love food lab for lunch. They have healthy yet delicious items on their menu and all the ingredients were very fresh. I stopped by with a friend after a work out and it was fairly busy. The place is small so we were lucky to get a seat. There were 2 tables outside and probably 5 – 6 inside. I got their veggie sandwich with pesto added. It was amazingly delicious. My friend got one of their turkey sandwiches and she really enjoyed it as well. Everything tasted very fresh. Their coffee was awesome. I had their vanilla latte and I really liked that the vanilla was aromatic but it wasn’t overly sweet. They also give you these little complimentary cookies with your drink. I haven’t seen any place done that here in LA, only in NY. The service was great. You order at the counter and get a number then they will bring the dish to you.

A little pricey but what do you expect from a trendy, hipster sandwich shop located on Sunset Blvd in Silverlake? I do believe you are also paying for the quality. Portion sizes are sufficient for someone who doesn’t like to overeat. I ordered the fig, prosciutto, and ricotta cheese sandwich because it sounded«exotic» and sounded like something I couldn’t get anywhere else. I enjoyed the crispy bread, the deep, freshness of the figs, the creamy, nutty flavor of the ricotta cheese, and the thin slices of prosciutto. Very friendly service from the girl at the counter. Fresh juices, and yummy cookies available. Small restaurant. Metered parking available.

I really like Foodlab for numerous reasons. I’ve been here a couple of times and have tried about three items from the menu and all of them have been really good. Yesterday I ordered a picnic box for a show I was attending at the Hollywood Bowl and I cannot express how awesome it was. We ordered the prosciutto and fig sandwich which was super fresh and amazing with that ricotta cheese. The vegan salad was really good especially with the hearts of palm and charred corn toppings. As a side, we ordered the pesto pasta which was garlic-y and had a nice change of flavor complementing the sweetness of the sandwich. The box also comes with your choice of a cookie, water and gum. I would recommend this box for anyone who is going to a concert or any outdoor event. It was only $ 20 and you can easily share it with another person. Not only that, but parking is also convenient on the street, so pick up is super easy. Overall, this place has great food, cool picnic boxes and a chill vibe!

I would have to give this place 1 star. Been here 3 times over the past 4 years and now I know why. First the prices on the printed menu are different then one on the big chalkboard. Got charged the higher prices… WTF! Then the lab literally was broken… down as in the oven was broken :/ Other times were less than quality service/mediocre food considering what you are paying for.

So, Foodlab, after what happened between us, there are some things I still feel were left unsaid. And I need to say them. You hurt me once but I forgave you. When I ordered that chocolate cheesecake, I was so overjoyed and felt like I knew exactly what I was getting into. I didn’t ever expect that it would end up tasting like onions and Italian salad dressing. But you know, some things you just can’t see coming in a relationship, I should know that. You really did throw me for a loop on that one though. You were so kind about it though – apologizing and even giving me some sweet macaroons to make up for the incident. I wanted to believe in you; I wanted to believe in us. So I came back to you on a sunny morning. It was a Wednesday. I had high – too high – hopes of what this could be, and an aching feeling in my gut(or was that hunger?). I came back because I needed something from you, I knew that you could prove yourself to me if I gave you another chance. So I waited for you. I waited for 30 minutes and I’m not sure why because there was literally no one else that you needed to see or talk to or anything… Were you out back tapping the trees for my maple syrup? No, I think that was actually Aunt Jemima. Were you plucking the plums to compose my compote? No, because it tasted a whole lot like Smuckers strawberry jam. Were you carefully beating the Belgian waffle batter, making sure it was fluffy, smooth and then crisping it to perfection? No, because it was grainy, floppy and mushy. Were you whipping the fresh cream you just milked from the cows out in the pasture? Actually maybe… because the whipped cream was delicious. Also I don’t like to bring up size, cause I know everyone always says it doesn’t matter but… let’s be honest: it does. I was disappointed, and you left me hungry for more. I like to think of myself as a forgiving person. And I might learn to forgive you someday. But I just don’t see myself being able to give you another chance. Foodlab, I have to learn to let some things go, and I’m sorry that you’re going to be one of them. I just have to do this for me, I have to find someone better who knows what I want, what I need, and can satisfy me. I truly do hope you find someone else that you can make happy, and I wish you nothing but the best. Jenna

Food Lab is overpriced, steeped in pretentiousness, and the portions are tiny. The last time I ordered a prosciutto and fig sandwich it was mostly bread with about three figs and two slices of prosciutto. Needless to say I was hungry within a half hour of finishing my «meal.» Usually the sandwiches aren’t loaded with toppings, but this was horrifyingly dismal. I don’t get the hype. That being said, the staff is usually polite enough, and the morsels served here are usually descent(at least in the flavor department, the quantities are miniscule). I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here. In fact, I wouldn’t go here at all if it was on my dime. There are better tasting, more reasonably priced salads and sandwiches in the area.

Foodlab is basically an Instagramer’s dream. The location itself is adorable. It’s a tiny little café with chalkboard menus, with metal tables and a refrigerator filled with freshly squeezed juices and lemonade. It’s really, really cute, and when the food comes out, it arrives on a little wooden board covered by brown paper and with a little side of pickled veggies. It’s almost impossible to resist snapping a photo and hashtagging #nofilter. My sister and I ordered two sandwiches to share, but we could have just ordered one and been fine. The first was the chicken avocado, which was served panini style and with very bitter sundried tomatoes. But maybe I’m just not as enthusiastic about this sandwich because the second one was miles better. I’m talking about the grilled cheese with caramelized onions. It doesn’t sound fancy, but it’s excellent. The bread is beautifully grilled, and the onions are sweet and super delicious. The mix of cheese is perfect, and the sandwich comes with this fantastic pressed mustard that I couldn’t get enough of. My friend ordered the egg salad sandwich, which looked really great, so I’ll have to try it next time!

Bottom line at the top: yummy! not a lot of seating so try to come a bit later during brunch time on the weekend(although doing so will cause you to miss out on pastries). – I enjoyed the smoked salmon with crème fraîche and eggs. It came with really unruly greens that definitely get a bit wild and require cutting and stuff hahaha. The bread that came with it was pretty tough(and dark) so if you have sensitive teeth you might want to skip that. My friend enjoyed his breakfast and had coffee and it literally came in a bowl. It was way too much and he didn’t end up finishing it even though he said it was very good. That was definitely in part to the awkward bowl hahaha.

I haven’t had anything but the organic chicken arugula salad, the cucumber salad and the Israeli couscous, but the chicken arugula is the bomb(it’s the dressing)! You may think some 12 bucks is a bit pricey for a salad, but it’s really big and there’s a lot of chicken if that makes you feel better. No parking really so you might wanna go for delivery. Might be nice if they cut the chicken in that salad to edible bites but whatchagonnado.

This place was absolutely amazing. I was watching too many Parks and Rec episodes where Leslie eats belgian waffles and began a quest to find the most delicious waffle. Luckily, I live over the hill and have been here before for a delicious fig and proscuitto sandwich for a picnic at the Getty. I haven’t been back in awhile since it was a bit pricey, but I just got paid and saw the pictures of the waffle and was totally sold. i ordered a Viennese coffee with delicious whip cream, the belgian waffle, and the salmon and crème fraishe omelette. Coffee was strong but the whipped cream add a nice sweetness. The waffle was soooooo amazing! I slathered it with the fruit compote, drizzled the syrup and plopped the whipped cream on top. OMG I really wanted to order another one. Absolutely lovely. And the presentation was good too – they serve everything on these wooden slabs with a plate on top. I really wish the waffle was bigger because it was so good. My boyfriend said«it’s just funnel cake…» which maybe it is, but damn, this funnel cake/waffle was good i will definitely have a preggo craving for this. The salmon omelette was also really great – fresh, delicious and clean, and served with a light salad. I just wanted to sit there all morning and try everything on the menu. Highly recommend this place.

awesome CURRYCHICKEN salad sammie. loved the LINGON berry, which served as a chutney-type pairing that it was served with. the curry in this chicken salad is NOWIMP! nicely potent with a spicy bang. it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. generously sized and the bread which was nutty and fresh, complemented the salad well. served with a side of pickled veggies. nice touch. they seem to have plenty of delicious offerings, including a breakfast menu. wouldn’t mind coming back to explore more of their ADVENTUROUS menu. hits the spot — definitely my type of fare. brave food, is the way i’d like to think of it! service was pleasant. parking is on the street. plenty of eclectic shops closeby.
