A local Hyde Park resident turned me on to this place. Great catfish and fried shrimp – probably four stars just based on those two dishes!(FYI we order it a la carte, not as a meal.) HOWEVER… This place is a total dive. You will put up with the terrible décor, unsanitary conditions, strange customers in line, and poor customer service cuz the food is tasty(if you’re that kind of person). Don’t plan on eating there. You’ve been warned!

I am disappointed… we used to have Fish Town at the office several years ago. The fish and the chicken wings used to be delicious. Today on my way home I decided to stop by for old times sake and now I m sad. I wasted the calories and my money!!! The chicken was old, the grease they used to fry musta been old the fries tasted soggy … A great disappointment. I have them 2 stars because the fish was just ok, the macaroni salad was tasty but it probably was Riesers out the tub. The role tasted like it had been left in the air and it was dry& stale. I may have given them a pass if I had gone right before they closed for the evening but this was before 4pm YIKES! I don’t think I will give them another chance It’s a wrap!

I’ve haven’t been to this place in quite a while, I normally go to Pico fish on Labrea in Inglewood, Ca. My husband and I ordered the catfish dinner and sanddab dinner. The sanddab dinner smelled so fishy and didn’t taste fresh. You can tell the owner doesn’t take pride in their establishment, the interior and exterior hasn’t changed in over 10 years, the floors look unkempt and I don’t remember the grade they received whatever the grade they shouldn’t receive a grade C or better. The owners care about the money and not serving the community quality food and a clean environment !

Horrible service. Waited over 20 mins for a simple fish sandwich. Every customer in the restaurant left angry. The guy with all the piercings in his face was rude and doesn’t need to deal with customers at all.

Great old school Fish Fry! Right amount of spice cooked through just right! Don’t listen to that Carmella person trying to kill off businesses in the adjoining neighborhood!

Yummy! Walked here while my car was getting washed and ordered the lunch special. The fish was so fresh and so good. When I walked back to the car wash, everyone was asking where I got the fish from. I will be back here!

Catfish is perfectly fried and taste fresh. Fries are not my favorite type of fry, but they are good.(Battered). Meal comes with a small salad and a roll. The area is very shady. I wouldnt visit after dark. Go at your own risk

We’ve eaten here many times and the food is okay, except that you can only get old fries and a terrible side of lettuce that they’d like to call a salad. We stopped eating here when we found not one but two pieces of hair in our food. It looked like the hair was in the oil because the hairs were coated with batter. I called and the owners could barely assist us because neither of them could speak English very well, which was extremely frustrating. They couldn’t speak Spanish either. I was too done. I got a refund and decided to stop being lazy and venture out for better eats near my home because this place is not worth my money.

I moved out of the area and I came back in town to visit my family. I really wanted to get som fish. My mom was telling me to try this place and I am so glad that I did. The portions are amazing. My husband and I ate off the same plate. The wings, red snapper and shrimp are really get. I didn’t get a lot of fries on my rate but that was okay. The location is in an awkward location but oh just have to make a few extra turns. Customer service is good. I will be hitting this spot when I come to town.

I’ve been eating their fish for the last 18 years. We have it delivered downtown for our Fish Thursdays. Love the Red Snapper and Filet of Sole, and they give you plenty to satisfy. I don’t eat Catfish or Shrimp but my coworkers rave about them. Have also tried the Tilapia, Sand Dabs and Perch but found them all disappointing. The Whiting? Just okay. But maybe even better then any of the fish are the Chicken Wings. Seasoned and fried just right, I could eat them all day long if my health permitted! LOL. My sons use to love when I’d bring them some when picking them up from school. I also enjoy all the sides including the salad, and their hush puppies are a real treat.

Been coming here since I was a kid and I still love their fried shrimp and red snapper. Every now and then I get that buffalo too but the bones can be annoying. I always call ahead and pick up the order. Food is always super hot when I get it and they aren’t stingy with the hot sauce. If you don’t mind the ghetto(as many folks seem to but I grew up near by so could care less) then this is the spot. My mom is Asian and she does just fine coming here. Simple parking lot here as well. They have other locations. I tried the one on la brea but the quality isn’t the same. It’s like they use old grease or something.

Where do I start? hmm. lets just say I really can’t find anything good to say about this place and if I could give a negative star I would. Their fish has too much batter that’s not well seasoned. beware you may get stale fish and fries if you don’t carefully check your order. and if you call back to correct them the lady gives you major attitude to the point where if strangling someone was legal she would be first on your list oh and one more thing the place is so old and dilapidated I’m sure there’s plenty of roaches and rodents considering its next to an alley. DON’T EATHERE!!!

I’ve eaten here 3 times in the last 3 weeks. Solid fried seafood. Large portions for a reasonable price. I’ve never touched my «salad» that comes with the dinner. Good Tatar sauce, which is hard to come by. They also give tons of fries. The place is a real hole in the wall and the parking lot is tiny. Depending on what direction you’re coming in, it can be difficult to get to.

As many times I have passed by here I had never stopped in. I wanted some fish and someone suggested that I come here. So the first thing I did was check out the Unilocal reviews and to my surprise they mostly said good things. I placed my order over the phone and when I arrived 15 – 20 minutes later my order was ready and man they give you your money worth. I mean the container was so full that it wouldn’t close. The fish and shrimp was well seasoned and fried perfectly, the fries had that batter on them that reminded me of how Rally’s fries use to taste, the hush puppies were good but that tarter sauce is the best I’ve ever tasted, make sure to get extra cause they do come in very small containers

This place definitely gives you a lot of food, but that’s the draw. With so many other great fish restaurants in the hood, why go here? It’s in an awful location for those traveling north, as its where Van Ness and Arlington meet. It’s so much in the hood, that they have bulletproof glass in the standing room only order area, while you order/pick-up from a z-track door. The food is just okay, but you get massive amounts for the money.
