Talk about a hidden gem. I was in the area and wanted a quick bite. With a very unassuming look and a 4 star review, I figured it was worth a look. If only it were closer to work or home. My bud and I both had the fish sandwich, and the two of them with a coke came out to less than $ 10. That constitutes a bargain in my book any day. The sandwich was a pair of breaded and fried snapper filets on as good french roll, with tarter sauce and coleslaw. They have Tapatilla and a southern style hot sauce with a vinegar hit. Both are good, so try each on a bite and see what you prefer. Beer would have made this a 5 star hidden gem.

This place has been consistently good. Their fish dishes are really good with a side of fried rice and cole slaw. Their customer service is excellent. Will definitely stop by more often.

This is the 3rd time that I’ve visited Fish Only — at the suggestion of one of my co-workers. The first two times, I had the salmon — this time, I decided to try the snapper — and, it was so good, that I decided to finally write the review I’ve been meaning to do. So, listen — it’s not in the greatest area… It’s across the street from USC Medical center, in a little and unimpressive strip-mall — and there’s always going to be some poor soul, homeless person who breaks my heart, asking for money, but do NOT be deterred. As many of the other reviews have said, for the price(although, I’ve had mediocre fish for way more $$), you’re not going to get better, tastier nor fresher fish for less. I also ordered the greens today — and they are yummy as well. I work right up the street from Fish Only, and unfortunately, there’s not much to choose from in the area… Fortunately, there’s this tasty and mostly-healthy :) option available… Lastly, the customer service has been great each time! It’s a gem in the«rough»!!!

Really good fish. I got their grilled salmon plate and it was good my son loved it and he’s not the best eater. However, I got a side of large clam chowder and there was barely any clams in it great flavor but it was more of a potato chowder which was a bit disappointing but besides that the salmon was great, the rice was good, I’ll more than likely be stopping by again.

Friends took me here once and I’ve been hooked ever since. Nice family owned fast food for a very reasonable price. Great food and staff! Did I mention the cute guy taking your order? His name is Khang and he’ll love you looong time.

My coworker was picking up lunch here and I decided to put an order in as well. She told me it’s pretty tasty so why not, right? I got the fried shrimp and they were pretty damn tasty. I wolfed those babies down with a quickness. The coleslaw was soggy and I didn’t really like it. I like a bit of crunch to it, but it didn’t have it. Besides that the plate was good, and it was $ 7-something for a bunch of food so I can’t complain. I’d say it’s worth it. I’d get food here again!

If I had a «Best Bang for your Buck» category, I’ll probably file Fish Only under that. I ordered the Red Snapper Filet for lunch and it definitely hits the spot. At $ 7.35 with tax, it came with two pieces of Red Snapper charbroiled with grill marks on both sides rested under a bed of seasoned rice and cole slaw on the side. The red snapper fillets can be a bit more moist, but it was alright the way it was. I enjoyed it with the tartar sauce that they provided. The seasoned rice was exactly as it sounds — garnished with some chopped green onions. It definitely is more tasty than just eating plain steamed rice, but it probably also contained a good amount of MSG along with it. I enjoyed the cole slaw as it helped to balance everything out since the fish and rice together would have been just a bit too heavy for me. It does take a while for them to prepare the food, so I’ll recommend ordering ahead by phone to speed up the process if you’re pressed on time. Fish Only — I shall visit you again soon! CASHONLY.

My coworker and I have been trying to find some new places around work to do food runs to, Fish Only is happily on our list of places around town to grab a bite to eat. Their prices are super duper reasonable, 2 red snapper fillet with rice and coleslaw for $ 6.75 – perfect amount to make you full and happy. I always get their«hot sauce» which is not really hot-hot but has a little vinegar kick to it and pairs well with the grilled snapper. Their clam chowder is also super good, definitely reeks of homemade goodness and is so delicious! Sometimes my coworker just orders a lunch and has that for lunch. I haven’t strayed to try other things on their menu, because. why mess up a good thing? Though I can say, we have had their fries, and those are good too!

There is no words to explain how YUMMY this place is, I’ve been coming here since I was about 10 years old with all my family. It’s a family tradition to come here and brings a lot of memories. The food is made right when you order it so fresh so full of flavor! Place is always so clean never lets me down, FISHONLY will be my favorite place to eat always, does not compare to the fanciest restaurant I’ve been too, always get welcomed with good vibes. I get the usual, the Seafood Combo! THANKYOU for years of yummy food! PS, the brown rice has the most unique taste!

I’ve been going into this place for a few years now, and I must say I’ve never been disappointed. The food is hot, fresh, tasty and super reasonable. The owners are always friendly & it’s clean. It’s a tiny little joint and parking can be hard to find but the food is worth it!

First of all, Fish Only? C’mon guys, at least put it a little more effort into your restaurant’s name. But at least they put in a little effort into their food. Not the best place for seafood, but this place has an excellent food to price ratio. I ordered the red snapper. Came with 2 filets on top of a bed of rice and a side of slaw. The slaw wasn’t that great, but the portion of fish and rice was a pretty good deal. Seems like they just throw the slaw in there to make the plate look for complete. Had a side of fries with my order and the fries have a hint of a fishy taste to them, most likely because its fried in the same oil as the fish. Its not a bad thing though. If anything, it adds a nice twist to them. lol Overall, the fish isn’t the best quality fish but what you get for the price is definitely a good deal. I’d consider this place again if I’m craving fish and don’t want to spend a lot.

Wow. Um it’s cheap. Got the charbroiled red snapper. Couldn’t get over how fishy smelling & tasting it was. Tried using the fresh lemon, soy sauce & hot sauce. Um sorry the fish wasn’t fresh. Also the fan tail shrimp was probably frozen from a box. I’ll stick with catch 21 on the low end and fishermans outlet for mid grade take out sea food

My kids and I loved it. Good prices and big portions. My daughter ordered the shrimp plus. It came with rice, shrimp and cole slaw. She loved it but couldn’t finish it all. My other daughter got the chicken plus and completely finished her plate! This place was consistently full with customers. That’s always a good sign!

My favorite fish spot in town. I never had a bad meal. Small family owned and operated restaurant. I have Been going there since the early 90s. I always have the seafood combo with no onions on the rice. Put some hot sauce on the fish and rice and you will be in heaven. Like most folks I try to cut back on fried foods. Every once and awhile I splurge and go to Fish Only. Great prices, good food, cash only. Try it you will not be disappointed.

I’ve been getting take-out from this restaurant since 2006. The quality of the food and my general dining experience with this place has remained remarkably consistent and favorable over the years, although it was an egregiously dark day when they took scallops off the menu. :-( What has kept me coming back countless times(other than the close proximity to my workplace) is that Fish Only offers filling portions of decent tasting food at very affordable prices. It also helps that they cook up the food reasonably fast. I should point out that it’s while it’s definitely *not* the best seafood I’ve ever had(not by any stretch of the imagination), it’s still pretty good, yet amongst the least expensive I’ve had as well. Thus, the overall value factor(price vs. quantity & quality) for this restaurant is very favorable. Even if you’re broke, you can afford to eat here. In fact, despite steadily rising food prices over the past decade, I don’t recall having noticed any price increases on their menu until 2013 — and even at today’s prices, it’s still(in my opinion) a bargain for what you’re getting. My favorite dish has *historically* been the Seafood Combo — you get 8 pieces of shrimp, 4 pieces of red snapper, fried rice, and coleslaw. The fish and shrimp are decent — I’ve never received anything«fishy» smelling from this restaurant. The shrimp are on the small side(but what do you expect for the low price tag, right?). The fried rice is surprisingly good as well. The coleslaw leaves a bit to be desired(it’s somewhat on the soggy side), but it’s still edible. My recent *new* favorite has been the Shrimp with Hot Garlic Sauce(with fried rice) — it’s slightly less expensive than the seafood combo, tastes about as good or better, and is also somewhat more nutritious, given the conspicuously greater vegetable content within. The Shrimp Fried Rice is not bad, but it’s a pretty plain meal compared to the aforementioned dishes. It’s worth a try, but I don’t think I would order it a second time. I strongly advise against ordering the #7 fried clams — while they’re not horrible, they appear to be comprimsed of more breading than actual clam, and as hard as I struggled, I was unable to discern any taste of actual clam in the meal. This is probably my least favorite of Fish Only’s menu items. For the same amount of money($ 5.50), you are better off just getting the #4 fish plus. Although there is no restroom available for customers at this restaurant, I will not hold it against the owners for two reasons: 1) There is very little room within the restaurant as it is, and 2) given the location of the restaurant, a public restroom within would probably be rendered into a hopelessly uninhabitable state in short order(infer from that vague speculation what you will). Parking can sometimes be difficult to obtain in the lot — you can usually get a spot on the street in such instances. I can’t really comment on service since I always only get take-out from the place, but the folks working there have always been polite enough, and they’ve always complied with my demands … err, requests for extra tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. In short, while I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for a first rate seafood dinner, it’s definitely worth eating at if you’re in the area, and want to fill up on some tasty food without bankrupting yourself. I for one plan to continue eating here on a regular basis for the foreseeable future. P.S. I’ve never gotten sick eating here all these years, so I think that should count for something as well. :)

Very mediocre, I think 3 stars is generous. I only ate here because it’s across the street from LAC/USC and we were tired of eating at the hospital. Got the #1 rainbow trout which seems to be the most popular. It definitely had a fishy taste and I found a good amount of bones in it. The rice and slaw it came with was pretty mediocre too. The fish that my friend got was pretty over-fried. The price is very inexpensive, about $ 6 – 7 per entrée, but in my opinion not really worth it. Probably won’t be coming back here, but gave three stars because it’s a family run place and pretty clean.

I have been coming here since I was a teenager. My dad used to always take me and my mom to eat here. Now that we live in SGV, we usually have it to go and it consistently tastes the same. My dad even mentioned that he remembered when the owners’ kids were little and they are the ones now running the place. It is a hole in the wall that serves fried food and it’s not JUST fish. I always get the shrimp plus. I did notice in the menu today that it used to be 15 pieces of fried shrimp and now it’s down to 13. Dad mentioned it’s also a lot smaller shrimp. I will keep coming back as long as it’s there!
