The foods awful. If you’re not into food and you only care about the space, then go for it. Unfortunately everything I tried and ordered was extremely disappointing. The only thing that was good was the pasted bread in the beginning, and the fries. Everything else: French onion(Way too sweet), spinach soup(hot green milk), the burger came out completely wrong, Te pizza was awful, the tart was not even a tart, all in all out entire table was extremely upset with the food.

I went here for brunch on my birthday and it could not have been better. The french toast was some of the best I’ve ever had, the breakfast pot pie was out of control good and so was the breakfast pizza. Top 5 bloody mary, not perfect, but it does come with a piece of bacon so I can’t say anything bad about it. They brought out this incredible upside-down pineapple pastry with ice cream-like crème fraîche that was to die for(with a candle). To top it all off, they took 50% off our bill because it was my birthday! They have a customer for life out of me now, brunch is my favorite meal in LA and they nailed it, can’t wait to go back. P. S. for any ANTM fans — Jade is a hostess…

The Cheesecake Factory of French bistros. My mussels were undercooked in a watery broth. Indifferent fries buried in Parmesan. Tuna tartare appetizer was ok. $ 14 glasses of wine. Should be $$$, not $$.

2 simple reasons why this place is closed: 1. Mediocre food. 2. Very poor inattentive service.

From 1 star to 4 stars? YESINDEED. Staff makes all the difference. Jessica B is a superb waitress who is a delight to have assist our group of loud ladies. I’ve come to Faux Pas a lot since they opened and the bad visit was, so far, the exception, not the rule. Who the hostess is and who your server is makes all the difference. Many of the servers do tend to disappear for long periods of time. Not Jessica! Her timing is perfect! I’ll be bringing another big group to Faux Pas on 2⁄17 for brunch and I am looking forward to good food, many mimosas and much laughter.

I love this French café. Located right next door to the Writers Guild and across the street from the Grove, the restaurant is open and airy. There is a really lovely rustic welcoming French country feel in the décor. Love the large fire place in the dining room that I’m sure is beautiful at night. This is a really nice restaurant casual bistro for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Would make a great date spot for two, meal with friends, and would accommodate a group easily as well. They have a great menu and the service and food are really good. I recommend the French green beans(I’m a sucker for green beans), the French onion soup(awesome), and the carrot cake for dessert. One special highlight for me were the alluring bottomless mimosas. They had all kinds of flavors way past the typical OJ and champagne combo. These are delicate champagne cocktail mimosas infused with lavender or mango and other flavors. Highly recommended. Ambiance: A Food: A Price: $$ Cocktails: A Valet parking out front for $ 5 or find metered parking along the street.

Look, I just happened to choose this place for an after-work H.H. to grab some drinks and food with co-workers. What a great spot! What took me was the All Night Happy Hour specials for drinks and food. The place has a nice setup with a fireplace in the corner with tables, but if you want to sit at some dim lighting booths, Done! Try the pizzas… I recommend to check the website for more details, but bookmark this place to come and try. Cheers!

Well… I guess Faux Pas is a good name for this place. Honestly I want to like this place more because the food is pretty damn tasty and the location is amazing — great design, great concept — but it totally fell short when I had dinner there recently. I hope I just got them on an off night. I hope the waitress was new… and I truly hope they get things figured out and stick around. But based on my experience I can’t give them more than 2 stars First off, it’s a pretty pricey place and yet they had no hostess, rather a sign told patrons to seat themselves… A little tacky for an establishment with a look, feel, and prices like Faux pas has. Once we had found a seat, a waitress barreled by and said she’d be back but instead a guy finally came over to take our drink order and he eventually took our order as well. We decided to split 3 items. The crab meat salad to start, the faux pas burger, and the braised lamb shank. The starter never came. I asked about it after we had already recieved our entrees. Eventually it showed up but at that point it was an «ender» rather than a starter… Luckily it was extremely delicious. It’s small but every bite was spectacular. I’d order it again and I’d definitely recommend it to whomever is reading this(just keep in mind that it’s very small, not the kind of starter that is big enough to have as a meal.) The burger came out in a timely manner, as we has ordered it. It was good and I felt it was appropriately priced as well. It comes with frites which were delicious with a bit of kick… I wish those had come with ketchup or some sort of dipping sauce as they were a bit dry without it. All in all, a very solid burger. The lamb shank was also pretty spectacular. The only downside was that the dish was supposed to come with a side of butternut squash and Israeli couscous but they forgot it and didn’t bring it to us until there was only a bite or two of lamb left. This was especially crappy because the couple of bites I did get to have of the lamb with the couscous were absolutely magical. Again… I’d recommend the dish in a heartbeat. It was phenomenal. The bill was wrong. They charged us twice for one dish, got our starter wrong, and charged me $ 8 for a glass of club soda(calling it some fancy name) when my husbands beer was only $ 6. They eventually sorted it out but only after we had to deal with the waitresses extremely unapologetic attitude and being made to wait about 20 – 25 minutes. In summary, it was pretty fantastic food but lacking considerably in service which effected not only the experience but the meal itself as well. So yeah — «Faux Pas» is definitely apropos.

So, I went back, despite my unhappiness the last time. I received a reply by one of the employees of the restaurant to my review, urging me to give them another try, but they did not offer any incentive, which I thought was interesting, because I have been offered free items or even a free dinner for two when the restaurant wasn’t happy with my review. We were in the area and I wanted to show the place to my roommate and see what he thought of it, so we stopped by to «give them another try». Well, let’s just say that if my roommate was writing this review, he would give them 2 or 3 stars, not 4. However, I was happier this time, so I upped my grading with a star. They changed the menu. There are now more options for non-meat eaters as well. I will have to go back again to try a few more things, because yesterday I only tried two new items and they were both excellent. They have a brand new cocktail menu, all with French names or somehow French related. We had an Avignon and a Camembert. They were actually really good and strong. Let’s hope they will keep up the alcohol content, because the drinks before were very weak on the alcohol. I had the Spinach cream soup with the Shrimp. The soup was actually very tasty and it had a huge beer-battered shrimp served with it. You can basically use the soup as a dipping sauce for the shrimp. :-) I liked it a lot. At $ 6, it wasn’t even expensive. I had the Lobster and goat cheese pizza. I can’t remember what else it had on it(their menu is still not online, so I couldn’t double check it), but it sounded good and that’s why I ordered it and it tasted very yummy. The crust was thin and the toppings blended very well together, I thought. I liked it a lot. Nothing more to say. I ate it all. Our server Samantha E. was wonderful, cute, funny, friendly, very pleasant. I never had a problem with the service here. I will go back again to try more things on the new menu. If they keep up the good work, more good reviews might follow. :-) My roommate had the burger(which for $ 11 is a steal), but the meat was very pink and under-cooked even though he asked for medium-well, so he left half of it there. He didn’t like the taste of it too much either; otherwise he would have sent it back to have it cooked a bit more. Luckily for Faux Pas, my roommate doesn’t write reviews. :-)

I brunched here with a couple of my girlfriends last Sunday. It wasn’t super crowded, but there was still about a 5-minute wait for a table to clear up and get cleaned up. We were seated right by the opening for some people watching. We took advantage of the 2 for 1 Mimosa deal and got to try the pomegranate, mango/jalapeño, and wildberry flavors — they were all good, but I couldn’t help notice how the berry ones were made. I saw the bartender use flavored syrup to flavor the champagne, which was kind of disappointing. I would’ve expected a more fresh approach. There were plenty of good-looking dishes on the menu. My friends got the EGGSBENEDICT and the EGGSEMANUEL(this one had chorizo instead of ham) — I had a bite and they tasted great! Both dishes came with home fries that were cooked and seasoned to perfection. What did I order? The BACONCHEDDARPANCAKE. It arrived and our collective reaction was«OMG!» It was HUGE! It was square-shaped and was bigger than the plate itself! My companions each took a piece and agreed that it was a nice, fluffy, light, pancake. The bacon, however, while they were generous with them, they weren’t fully rendered. Cooked, yes, but not crunch and smokey like you’d expect bacon to be. And the cheddar? NON-EXISTENT!!! I ate about a quarter of the entire thing and that was that. I felt bad for sending it to waste, and also for not saying anything. Well I’m saying something now, and learned my lesson. I had a nice time boozy-brunching w/my friends in a nice, trendy atmosphere, but I don’t think I’d be back again.

In my singular experience Faux Pas lived up to its name. Although the food overall was not bad and even had some sparks of genius. the experience could have been a tad better. The four of us arrived for a Sunday brunch around 12pm. Initial impression of the restaurant was quite good. Wide open sitting, big bar area; everything looked very inviting. We were seated promptly in the inside dining area booth and were given menus. One of the menus was not like the others, of course it was my menu. No problem, the pleasant server brought us another copy and we all ordered waters and mimosas, of which they have several different kinds. We opted for two mango and two pomegranate. Oh and three coffees, which would have never been refilled if not requested. It was quite clear that they were a bit understaffed and pretty much full to capacity, but in any case it took a while for us to get our drinks. In the meantime we’ve discovered that the table was not properly set and that we had no silverware. Each one of us perused the menu making some good choices. I went with the Toad in a Hole, which is served with lobster meat and pancetta. My friends decided on a Lobster Sandwich, a Croque Madame, and three eggs served with smashed potatoes, which I will say right off the bat were nothing special. We also ordered some parmesan fries with truffle aioli to share. The waiter returned with our drinks, we placed our orders and proceeded to wait. The mimosas were interestingly served in a wine glass, not a champagne glass and were a bit too sweet due to the excessive amount of juice versus the bubbly. The waters came with a lime, but oddly enough tasted like Uni. I know, it is a very odd flavor, but there was definitely something in the water. When our food was brought over everything looked quite good, but one of my pet peeves and Faux Pas’, faux pas was my sunny side up egg. I absolutely cannot stand it when the yolk is gelled and is basically a hard boiled egg consistency. Normally, I would have sent it back, but I knew that it would simply take way too long to get a re-fire. Hunger won over dismay. My lobster was a bit stringy, but overall the flavors were good. Well seasoned and cooked. The parmesan fries were excellent and in my opinion the best thing on our table. Shoestring size, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, well seasoned, and addictive as hell! I did not get to try everyone’s food, but it seemed that aside from minor things here and there the meal was well received. When it came time for the bill, on the first attempt and after yet another long wait, we were overcharged. However, the mistake was fixed a little more expeditiously than before and we were on our way. I liked this American/French bistro and will most likely come back to give it another try, but my expectations will be a little bit lower, which is probably where they should have been to begin with.

Large venue that is perfect to host a birthday, work event, or a happy hour~ I went for a large birthday bash a bit back and there was no hassle to get in and super easy access to join the birthday bash. We were able to celebrate without the usual hassle that may be tied to hosting a larger group event. I’m a fan!

Bottom line about this place is that it makes you FEEL like you’re being an adventurous eater. Whether you are or not doesn’t really matter(you’re not in Vietnam sitting in front of a still beating Cobra heart ok, so let’s be realistic) because everything on the menu is really yummy. So turn up, point at something and enjoy! The first thing that struck me about this place was the look. Someone spent a lot of time making sure that this place is visually striking for sure, and they did a good job. Everywhere you look there is something pleasing to the eye. I especially like the wall(acoustic?) treatments near the bathrooms. I love the open«living room» area where you can sit near the sidewalk. This is a really cool feature of this place. The second thing that you notice is that the people that work here are actually friendly. I know this is a strange thing to encounter at a restaurant in LA but hey… it’s bound to happen at some point. My wife just joined this dinner club and we attended last night to, Faux Pas. The general idea is everyone orders something and everyone shares so you can really get an idea for the place. I order the prosciutto pizza with the egg on top(!) and the wife ordered the steak. The pizza was good! Interesting for sure — not sure that it needed as many ingredients as it had but it seemed to work. This is definitely a knife and fork pie so just forget about holding it. The wife’s steak was good — lots of flavor. No surprises there. I was also able to sample; Mac and cheese: very cheesy and good! I liked the slight burn to the top — who doesnt like slightly burned cheese? Scallops: a must try with all the fixings provided The Lobster Club: super moist and flavorful Brussel Sprouts: about as flavorful you can make these things Potatos: HOLYCRAP and lastly we got the chocolate cake which was incredible only when eaten in conjunction with the strawberry’s and the chocolatey cap. The actual cake was a little dry but when combined with everything, it all comes together for a nice chocolategasim.
They also had the 2 for 1 drink thing going on at the bar that they extended to the table even after they said that they wouldn’t — which was awesome. Our server was dealing with us, a TEN top, and a few other tables and did a fabulous job. He was very friendly and helpful the entire time even through the annoyingness of a extremely cohesive group of friends a few drinks deep. All in all I really liked this place. The wife and I will be coming back for sure to have a more quiet and romantic evening and I don’t even have to worry about it. It’s a slam dunk.

Found this place, on Accident! One Sunday a month, my college BFF and I, search for new bruch eateries in the area. This particular Sunday, we planned to hit up the infamous Blu Jam Café. Unfortunately, the blazing cali heat and one hour plus wait time had us rethinking our brunch location. We then tried the Griddle Café, and Fiddlers Bistro. Both insanely long lines. While driving through the city, we happened upon Faux Pas Bistro… Service: Just a touch above average Coffee: French press & quite good. Crabcakes Benedict: Probably the #3 in my top three places for eggs benedict. This one was served on top of a toasted buttery flaky croissant, with steamed spinach, chunks of lump crab and then a perfectly poached egg with hollandaise. Yummmm.

Red, red wine is so 1968. At Faux Pas, tt’s all about the sangria(and bottomless mimosas served every day and two-for-one drinks at the bar every day… yes, err day). Truth be told, I went for one glass of the refreshing fruity boozy bevi, left for a dinner meetup at a nearby restaurant with gfriends, and then couldn’t stop gushing over the one glass, so I came back to Faux Pas armed with a handful of thirsty ladies and easily downed a pitcher. Each glass/batch is made on the spot, it doesn’t sit in a vat of its own deliciousness all day long, so it’s a real treat to watch it being made by the charismatic gent behind the bar. It includes Brandy, Orange Liqueur, Red or White Wine, and Citrus Juices, garnished with a buffet of fruits to enjoy when the glass or pitcher is left empty. I prefer the white over the red, as the red tends to overpower the other ingredients that make the sangria such a lovely throat throw down. I’ve also had a cup of French onion soup at the French fusion brasserie, and it didn’t disappoint, but for me, Faux Pas isn’t a go-to place for food. It’s all about the booze here, which is the perfect complement to the open-air feel from the large windows that peek onto West Third Street, and the spacious interior with wicker chairs and white linen tables.

The restaurant is in a open patio like setting so you can enjoy the sun! delicious food. & most importantly… How can u say no to bottomless mimosas $ 15.00! Which you can order in diff flavors… Each… Time. Yes Really!!! Until 6pm! Im not a crazy drinker trust me. But we all need to let our minds in relaxation mode while drinking mimosas on a sunny day in los angeles. It really helps to give a lil perk! We ordered some foods to snack on Tuna tartare! Wonderfully proportioned and small pieces of apples were added which i find really special & delightful :)

I stumbled upon this place by accident this Sunday. I strongly suggest a reservation for brunch, which I did not have. It worked out to my advantage because I had an amazing bloody mary with a strip of bacon in it! The ambient lighting of the bar was just what I needed for a nice Sunday out. We finally were seated at a table overlooking 3rd street and it made going out worth my while. I had another bloody mary and ordered an omlette. The French toast looked amazing as I saw it placed at the table next to me. Great spot for brunch! I will try to go back for dinner one night.

Nice atmosphere, trendy, clean look, good location. Food was hit/miss. The eggs Benedict looked great, but ended up being so-so. The bacon /cheese pancakes(baked right into the batter) were delicious. The potatoes were yummy. French Press Coffee-Great We had one peculiar situation: I had requested milk for my coffee but the server said that they ONLY had half & half-which I feel is IMPOSSIBLE as milk is a staple in ANY restaurant. So, I had to go across the street to Trader Joe’s and purchase my own carton of milk. While using the milk at our table, the server came by and offered us all a free fancy-flavored mimosa, which was definitely a nice gesture/PR move. The manager also paid us a visit to ask how things were going. I thought this was strange but we did get the chance to try the mimosas that they seem to be known for. The blood orange and prickly pear mimosas were great, the roasted pepper/papaya mimosa didn’t do it for me.

Short: Ambience: Cozy, romantic, nice Food: Really great as long as you aren’t expecting French food and don’t order fish Service: Great, if over-enthusiastic Long: My brother and I live down the street from here and were really excited to try this place with our four friends. We had an 8:30 reservation on a Friday night and were pleased when the hostess seated us even though our party was not yet complete. The space is very cute and spacious, with separate areas for the formal dining room and the bar. There’s a cozy fireplace and the heavy marble tables look quite nice. I love the open wall to the outside sidewalk and street, but wish they had tinted the low glass barrier — I was facing out of the restaurant and every time a car came down the alley across the street I was blinded by the headlights. Also, they turned the lights UP about halfway through our meal, which was disorienting and odd. The waitress(Christine) was very friendly and enthusiastic about telling us all about the featured wines and various menu items. She was really great about checking in on us frequently but not too frequently and seemed so excited to be helping us out. She was a touch over agressive, but I’d rather have an excitable waitress than a rude one. The food, for the most part, was really great. We had the calamari, the salmon risotto, the burger, the arugula and prosciutto pizza, the trout, and the seven-ounce new york strip steak. The calamari was well-seasoned and the sauces delicious, but the pieces were rather thick. The new york steak was so tender that my brother ate half of it before he realized he was using his dinner knife rather than a steak knife with no problem. The risotto was perfectly cheesy and creamy. When the pizza took a while to come out, the waitress explained that the chef didn’t like the way it had come out and had it re-made. They even took it off the bill and gave us a free dessert in exchange. Unfortunately, both fish items had bones in the fish. Now, I’m not a finicky eater — I eat at Asian restaurants where the entire fish comes out bones, head, eyeballs, and all — but finding bones in not one, but two fish items is amateur hour. I would definitely come back here for the wine, steak, burger, and everything else, but would probably stay away from fish items in the future. Last note: the food isn’t really French, except for items like coq au vin or the croque madame /monsieur. There are lots of pizza and pasta items on the menu — I’d say more American /Pan-European than French.

I won’t give a restaurant 5 Stars unless I have been there at least twice, just in case on the first visit was just a lucky chance the restaurant got it all right. But I have now been here 3 times and all 3 times the service and food quality has been 5 stars. The first two visits, I was here with a group of friends, I was able to try a little bit of everyone’s entrees. :o) Best way to dine. I love Brussel sprouts but never thought of it for a pizza topping. The Brussels sprout pizza was a huge surprise for me. WOW! It was so good. The fried chicken sandwich was one of the best I have ever had. The chicken was super tender. It’s a must try. The Mac n Cheese was so tasty with the different cheeses they used. You definitely want to share this, the portions are huge. The service was friendly, attentive and the food came out timely and hot. The décor is beautiful. It’s a spacious restaurant. The 3rd visit was late Friday night. The restaurant looked full but we were still seated right away. I really liked the ambiance; it’s not too loud, not too quiet. Good vibe. Again the service was friendly and attentive and the manager also came by and introduced himself and checked in on us periodically along with our server, so we were well taken care of. We were a group of three this time and ordered the risotto special, Bouillabaisse, French onion soup, fried chicken sandwich again, grilled veggies and quiche Lorraine. All were fresh, perfectly prepared and tasty. We tried the dessert special, Upside Down Pineapple cake, this was amazingly moist and buttery but had this great crisp outer crust. I could eat this cake all day! We also had a few Margaritas. Kudos to the bartender. Also when we were preparing to leave, we were told about Carpool Valet. I guess the deal is if you use their valet and you have three or more in your car, the valet fee is FREE! I was so stoked! I can’t go anywhere in LA without paying parking fees, meters, valets or parking tickets, so getting free valet without expecting it was a sweet surprise. After 3 visits, I definitely think they have earned 5 Stars and I will be back again(with at least two friends for the free valet) haha! :o)
