Living in a society of mass merchandised wear, it was a breath of fresh air having my first shopping experience at Elmer Ave. When you walk in, you’ll first notice it’s edgy concepts influenced by music, art, and fashion. Then you take notice to their unique deconstructed tailored designs. I read that their concept is «high end suiting with a rock and roll edge». I had a long conversation with one of the designers, Jonny, and he threw on some pieces together I never would have imagined I’d fall in love with. I really felt like he was my personal tailor, stylist, and friend. Even though I was hesitant on the price point, after trying some of his blazers on and feeling how righteously his designs contoured to my body, I was sold. Forget the cheap, cutesy, trendy designs that are only good for a season… or the over-marketed«Gucci, Louis, Fendi, Prada» brands. I found a new passion for their custom designs that I can pretty much get away with wearing in my super conservative corporate job, but also interchangeably style the same coat with some sexy leggings or skinny jeans. I ended up purchasing this great fitting corset and a silk blouse to wear underneath it. These are two pieces I would normally like on a hanger but never have the confidence and imagination to wear together until Jonny reassured me that it was hot!(Sometimes you just gotta go with a man’s opinion, you know what I mean?) There’s another vest and blazer I plan to go back for and hopefully really start putting together a solid collection of great pieces for my closet that doesn’t go out of style. My friend was the one who introduced me to this store and no words could express how accommodating he said they were. After buying his coat, he went back after some time and told them he thought his coat was too form fitting(he likes looser fits) and how an additional button on his jacket would make it a more perfect fit. They gave him no hassle and now what went from a coat that sat in his closet is now a signature coat he wears. Jonny also told me a story where a very big dude(like football style big) who came in and said he just couldn’t find any shops out there to fit his physique. In the store I saw the molded mannequin for that man’s physique and am thoroughly impressed and hope to meet this man to see the final outcome. I also hear a lot of his business comes from Japan which is right up my alley because Japanese fashion is a personal favorite of mine. Elmer Ave all together is a really unique place that even though I can’t see myself affording to shop here every week, I look forward to slowly working on one iconic piece at a time until I complete my wardrobe. I guarantee I’ll feel like my purchase was money worth every penny because I’m already feeling that way now. These guys are forward thinkers and can’t wait for people to catch on so they eventually get the recognition they deserve.
