El Valle Oaxaqueno is a great place that caters to all of your Oaxacan wants and needs. It is listed on here as a bakery, but besides that it is also a small restaurant/grocery/variety store that carries everything from authentic drinking chocolate, to artisenal goods and even religious items and incense. At first I thought that the grocery/variety section of this place was completely separate, especially since it has a 99 cent store sign above it but the nice man working there assured me that I was able to take my goods from that part of the store to the bakery and continue shopping there if I wanted to. On my trip I bought a beautiful typical Mexican shopping bag with Frida Kahlo on it for $ 4.99! It was a total steal! At the Placita Olvera or the Mercadito de Los Angeles the exact same bag sells anywhere between $ 10-$ 15! I also bought a delicious horchata. For those who don’t already know, the horchata in Oaxaca is very different from the one you typically find at Mexican restaurants and fast food places throughout L.A. Oaxacan horchata is much richer and is topped with a squirt of cactus fruit/prickly pear syrup(which turns the drink a beautiful shade of pink) and either pumpkin seeds or walnut pieces as well as cantaloupe chunks! Seriously such a great combination of flavors! The lady offered to let me sample the other fresh drinks she had but I already knew I was getting the bomb horchata. The only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is because the location is way too chaotic. The place itself is in a shopping center, so as expected parking sucks. To top it off the shopping center is at the corner of a huge intersection, so street parking is scarce and pretty scary with cars zooming by in all directions. The bread at the bakery looked really good and smelled really delicious but I was caught in a hurry and didn’t end up buying any. Next time for sure though, I’m sure it’s great!

I love their bread because it’s so fresh. I love the way the vicinity smells when the bread is baking. They also sell sandwiches and they are pretty good.

Man… I don’t even know how long I’ve been coming here. But it has to be at least ten years. The bread is great and always fresh. I’m more into the moles and varquillos they sell. Bit on the pricey side, but worth every penny.

My father loves their bread and he is a tough critic of food… and I agree with him so for this they get 4 stars

I walked in for pupusas, which they didn’t have. But I discovered that they have all sorts of ready made moles! I know, I know… last time I made ready-made Mexican food it was a disaster(don’t remind me… it was a pipian fiasco)…still… I asked a little kid which pastele I should get, and he pointed. I got that one. A teensy bit dry(as i usual), it was very good. I’ll be back. Thanks, little kid!
