Tacos de barbacoa. I should probably begin by warning you that if upon reading this you thought«oh barbacoa, like from chipotle» you may be in for some disappointment. Barbacoa, like its cousin birria are two amazing meat options that often and unfortunately have lost some identity during their American assimilation. Places like Chipotle, King Taco, and other establishments often times offer these options, that though are very delicious, have morphed from their original recipes. The main differentiation between authentic barbacoas and birrias, and the American versions is the animal. Both birria and barbacoa are originally made of either lamb or sheep, which is what you will find here at this amazing taco stand! Please try and disregard your American instinct to automatically cringe at anything that isn’t beef, pork, turkey, or chicken and give these tacos a try! I promise that most people without prior knowledge would assume the tacos are beef anyway! Also, these tacos are made with fresh handmade tortillas that are being made on the spot! The topping selection is also very good! I personally add on a lot of onion, salsa, and lemon!

El Señor del Borrego is a recent addition to this little stretch of Echo Park Ave just south of Sunset, which is often home to the equally awesome Oaxacan Quesadilla Cart. On my visit they had two offerings. Lamb tacos — these were really, really good. Tender, steaming hot stewed lamb chopped to order and generously piled onto FRESHLYMADEHOT-OFF-THE-GRIDDLE corn tortillas. What a treat. Cup of broth — I think this was the cooking liquid that the lamb was stewed in. Insanely spicy. Toss in a handful of onions and cilantro and a spoon of their lovely red salsa. Anti-hangover elixir. This place rocks.
