I went tonight looking for this and it wasn’t there. I was really looking forward to trying the great food.

A great beginning for this new farmers market — food fair — swap meet. They are starting out small, but be ready to partake in a huge feast of Boyle Heights’ famous street food. These are some of the great vendors who used to be in the parking lot on Breed Street. Mexico City style tacos, raspados with real fruit, churros made fresh right in front of you. I had so much trouble deciding what to eat, I ate it all. The street food offerings are superior to those at the Mariachi Plaza farmers market. So worth the trip to Boyle Heights.

El Mercado del Pueblo is just getting started and they will be having their big grand opening celebration on July 28th. Until their grand opening they will continue to be open every Saturday evening from 4pm-9:30pm. Whats different about this farmers market? They have managed to work with local street vendors that were displaced from the Breed Street market. These vendors are legit! They cook awesome food at affordable prices and they are at a safe space in the parking lot of Hollenbeck Middle School. You can get raspados made of fresh fruits. You can also get awesome pupusas, tacos, tortas, tamales, champurrado, crepes, churros, quesadillas, pambazos and more. They are working on expanding the amount of vendors they have. Come and check them out. They are only there on Saturdays from 4 – 9:30pm. Spread the word. BTW, I have tried the quesadillas, crepes, churros and pupusas. They are as good as I remember them.
