I loved the restaurants main dish. Its an order of steamed lamb tasty and soft with rice, beans and of course hand made tortillas. its also includes a very tasty lamb soup. There’s many other good plates as well if you’re not into lamb. I highly recommend this restaurant

Buena barbacoa de borrego, pero sirvieron demasiada grasa en los tacos. Salsa verde y roja excelentes.

The food is very good. I went last weekend and gain this weekend for breakfast. The service is fast and the food is delicious. The tacos de Barbacoa come with a lot of meat I just ask for extra tortillas because from that taco I can more.

Barbacoa: Best in LA! Soft, juicy. Don’t come here late, to avoid dryness. Tried the pozole for the 1st time, it’s okish… added a tone of oregano to have that pozole flavor. All the waitress are new. We hadn’t issues with the previous bunch, but these girls are super sweet & attentive. The 1 star less is for the pozole. I lived in Mexico City for 20yrs & my mom’s from Hidalgo, birth place of Barbacoa, we don’t joke with Mexican flavors!

Weirdly dry meat? Rude waitress!!! I asked for water with ice and was told they were out of ice. The next customer was served a regular drink with ice.

Food was ok but the service is the worst … Rude waitresses waiting for a tip depending on how you look

They were out of barbacoa the day we went, but we had the Albondigas soup(super bomb!), I had a Tlacoyo(that was delicious, cheese and potato… nomnomnom), and the Baby Pork Ribs in Green Sauce(excellent)…the lady had a Torta, which was actually one of the tastiest Torta’s I have ever tasted… right across the 4th or 6th St Bridge, and definitely worth the travel to have a great tasting, freshly made, authentic as you can find, inexpensive and affordable meal, this is your spot… next time they best have some barbacoa!

Barbacoa with it’s authentic taste at it’s best. Many people complain that the Barbacoa may taste«bland» or «unseasoned»…that’s because they do not know what Barbacoa is! Barbacoa is meant to be eaten with a Consome(dipped in it, or accompanied with a taco). Both salsas are very good(although I prefer the red one). I almost forgot, there Horchata(rice water) IS made from rice and they make it, which explains it’s tasty and natural flavor!

We supposed to go to one lady who sells barbacoa de borrego on the street somewhere in East LA but we could not find it. So we asked some ladies on the street where we can find a good barbacoa place, and we ended up going«El Borrego De Oro.» Everything looked and taste good. I went there with one of my Mexican friends who claims to be a big barbacoa fan. He even gave a good rating on this place. I don’t know why some of the previous reviewers talked about«the meat doesn’t have enough flavor» or «consome«being so bland… To me the meat was really flavorful and tasty INCLUDING fat(I literary nibble fat after being so full with tortillas) and consome was perfectly cooked as my liking. When we went, it was about 9:30am on Sunday, go there early cuz it gets crowded afterwards. Unlike to other raters, I gave this place a four stars… just because I hope I can find a better barbacoa place somewhere in LA. But so far I this this is one of the best barbacoa that I have had here in «el norte.»

It could have been a restaurant of any ethnicity, some of the food was Greek to me. Right in the middle of Downtown, Central LA, Boyle-Heights &HP/SG/Bell on Washington in LA on the corner of the famous Soto Street not far off from the 10, 5, 101, 60 Fwys & Olympic blvd lies El Borrego De Oro Restaurant. Btw, Borrego means Lamb I am evaluating this food from the perspective of a Mexicali Mexican raised in the USA, may rating may be lower than others. Barbacoa I am used to more seasoning in my barbacoa, I will not say this was bland or flavorless, but from my perspective it had less seasoning than I was used too. But, still it was great in terms of the meat, the heat and the greet. Consume I did not eat much, my two buddy’s who loved it. The consume tasted like Phở with no seasoning. It had a little hominy, beef flavoring and a side lf onions, cilantro green & red suace to add. Salsa & Chips Man, that red sauce was hot, as I humorously learned. Next time, If I get the barbecoa or «Buchete» as my buddies reffered to it I will get the rice and beans instead of the consume. Why? because the seasoning of the rice and beans will balance the less seasoned barbecoa. Though, I kind of wanted to try thier asada too. There is usually enough parking, but its not a huge lot. Service is very freindly and the servers are beautiful too. Finally, there may be a Corn stand outside, fresh and warm, you can season with lemon or other items.
