I bought a Groupon for this company a few months ago and finally got around to calling to place my order for the 2 pies. I called a few times only to get a voicemail asking me to leave a message so after the 3rd call I left a message. I also went on their website and sent them a message through their contact us section. As of today I still have not heard from anyone so my next move will be to contact Groupon and tell them about my unsatisfactory experience just trying to talk to a live person and place my order. After reading the reviews I am not surprised by this lack of communication.

If you want pies do not order them from this place. Drakes Pies is not a legitimate business. I don’t even make their own pies! I would recommend going the the Pie Hole in Downtown or the one in Pasadena. Oh and by the way. As I read all of these reviews I noticed reply from Melonee. First of all she has posted her name wrong and that is not her pictured. This place is just too much.

From the moment I called, the experience with Drake’s was remarkable. I ordered a sweet potato pie and a pineapple cheesecake, both of which were delightful. The sweet potato is far from what your taste buds expect. If you’re anything like me, you welcome a «kick start» to your pallet. This pie is IT. And the branding is oh so cute! Adorable brown pie containers with a perfectly southern belle ribbon attached. If you’re in the mood for something different, bold, and daring, call them up. Bravo Drakes!

Since writing this review, «Bonita R» messaged me and accused me of scamming this company(like she did to many others I see). She is obviously affiliated with Drake’s Pies(since previously she reviewed them 5 times with all raving reviews; no normal person does that), and I have reported her to Unilocal. This is really low considering the horrible experience I’ve. had with Drake’s Pies. To be clear, this company never sent me the refund so I don’t know why that was in the response.

Very nice, worked with us to still get our pies as we did not follow the time frame to get our pies by Christmas. Like we all do, you learn by your mistakes and they appear to after the thanksgiving problems. No complaints here and the pies are delicious!

To be clear I NEVER received any pies from Drakes pies. I never heard from u again after we spoke the evening before Thanksgiving at about 830 pm. My review stands, this was my experience, u may have made some late deliveries, but not to my house., and no follow up until now, right before your Christmas pie sales, I’m over Drakes Pies… anyone reading should be too.

Now I can understand why all of the bad reviews. I called to inquire about ordering pies for Christmas. I have a groupon for two southern pies. I was told I could only get two sweet potato pies. Funny thing is, the groupon does not specify this AND when I called before Thanksgiving, they actually recommended a different pie and told me I could purchase whatever I wanted. I told this to the gentleman… who answered the phone«hello» instead of with the business name, and he said they had a debacle at Thanksgiving because of that. Okay, really? I thought their truck broke down? I’m going to email groupon to see if I can get a refund, cause frankly, I’m worried about not getting my pies last minute and I don’t want two sweet potato pies. Bad business. He also told me it was groupon’s attempt to sell pies. I’m pretty sure groupon isn’t the one trying to sell pies. Bad business practices and if they don’t get it together, they probably won’t be in business very long.

i had a slice of the sweet potato pie from a co-worker and i was hooked!!! it’s filled with yummy spices, tasted custardy and bits of sweet sweet potato added so much texture to the pie. the graham cracker crust also adds another depth to the pie. words can’t describe how wonderful it is. i knew i had to have the whole pie. i read the reviews about their poor execution but i didn’t mind the wait as long as they deliver me my pies. melanie took my order and delivered my pies close to 10pm but she delivered. i respect people who work hard esp since it’s a small business operation. so, i just wanted to support them and hopefully they’ll work out the kinks and make it as smooth as their pies. ps. i also ordered a small pineapple cheesecake pie and i wished i ordered a whole pie. the combo is different and fits perfectly together. the cheesecake is light while the pineapple is not overwhelming. again, they used a graham cracker crust which makes it so much more amazing. great pies!!!

My experience was eerily similar to other experiences. I ordered the Groupon for two pies for Thanksgiving and was told to expect an email the next day to confirm. Never got it. I called and they said they were sorry and would email me within a couple of days. That didn’t happen either. I called again and they again apologized and said just come that day(day before Thanksgiving). I get there to find out that there was a problem with some other truck and the pies. The woman asked me to come back tomorrow and said I was a lifesaver. So much for that, because when I came THANKSGIVINGDAY there was no sketchy truck to be found and then no pies for me. I had to haul over to a grocery to get a last minute pie. When I called the next day, they apologized and said they’d bring me pies the next day. I wanted my pies for Thanksgiving and these would do me no good. They were seemingly so apologetic and would send me a cashier’s check immediately and have two pies delivered to my home. I got the pies. No cashier’s check. And the pies were awful. Grocery store pies tasted 10 times better, I had to throw them both out immediately as they were inedible. Such a disappointment! I had only one task for Thanksgiving and that was to bring a sweet potato pie. I placed my order on the Monday before Thanksgiving. I was assured my pie would be ready for pick up on Wednesday. I got a confirmation email about my order. Seemed all good. Wednesday morning I got another email stating that my pie would be ready for a Noon pick up. I left work(Downtown LA) on my lunch break, when I got there I was informed my pie was not available for pick up and that they has some mechanical issues with their other truck. BS!!! Why wouldn’t you call to inform the customer?!! That being said, I would not use them and would not recommend them. Even if offered a free pie. Don’t waste your time, energy or money.

HOW can Drakes have SO many bad reviews? I had a totally different experience They are a BRAND new business, as a business owner myself I understand THINGS happen. I ordered my pies on Groupon a few weeks before thanksgiving, I went to the truck a day before thanksgiving to pick up my Sweet potato pies from Melanie who was very sweet ! HERE is the issue, I ordered 2 pies but she was only able to give me one, she was extremely apologetic and explained there was an issue with the truck and the pies were sitting to long with out refrigeration and they had to remake ALL the pies. They promised to deliver me my pies by Saturday, on Saturday morning Melonee came to my house which was REALLY out of the way an brought me my pie as promised, plus an extra pie for my troubles. They were a big hit at both of my events ! I will definitely be ordering more in the near future.

This was by far my worst groupon experience ever. I called on the Monday of Thanksgiving and made arrangements to pick up 2 pies on Wednesday afternoon, so I could drive them down with me to Escondido, being responsible for the dessert. When I made the order, I asked for a confirmation email, which I never received. On Tuesday, I left a message that was not returned. On Wednesday, I call in the morning and confirm to meet the truck in front of the post office betwen 4−6pm. The kind woman said she sent the email and wasn’t sure why I didn’t get it, but she’d send it again. Anyways, I get there about 4:15 after receiving confirmation that the pies were good to go. When I get there, Melody greets me and tells me she has no pies because a pie broke down. She said she could deliver it to my home, so I gave her my cell and address as well. She promised she’d be there by 8pm. I get nervous but she said she would be coming, because it’s getting late for Thanksgiving shopping and everything’s been picked through already. I wanted something fresh and different. Well, unfortunately, that is what I received. I tried calling their phone numbers and pressing 1 for orders and 2 for customer service, but ended up getting a mailbox full message or just a beep. No return phone calls and no pies. By 9:30 I get on the road to Escondio, dessertless, as Sweet Lady Jane is now closed and so is anything worthwhile to mention. I get to Escondido. No call. I had to start calling around finding pie places open the north county San Diego. Lucky for me, I did, but spent way more than anticipated, and the anxiety and irritation was the worst with their lack of communicaton. If they told me right off the bat at 4pm, it would have been workable. But just not showing up just jacks up someone’s night, especially if they are waiting for you to get there to give them their delivery.

If you enjoy sweet potato pie then please don’t go to Drake, s I placed an order for two pies and went to the address posted to pick up the pies and found that they don’t have a store and use the post office address as there place of business and you have to find the person sitting in a car with your pies in the back seat. But most of all what they call sweet potato pie is no where even close to being a real pie. The pie or so called sweet potato did not even come close to taste to what a true SP pie taste like. You would be better off going to Ralph’s and buying a SP pie from them that had a better taste and is fuller. Don’t waste your money and do some research on other places. I found a much better pie at Southern Girl Desserts at the Baldwin Hills Mall. Now that is a real sweet potato pie. If you have no taste buds then this is the pie for you and you don’t mind taking a lose of the price of there pies. Stay away and try some other place like Southern Girl for a better pie and at a better price.

For those of you who are considering purchasing a pie from Drake’s. Here’s my experience with Drake’s Pies. I placed my order eleven days prior to Thanksgiving. The representative who took my order assured me I’d be able to pick-up my order on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving and would be receiving a conformation e-mail with all the particulars related to my order(pick-up times, location etc.). Well, that never happened. Two days prior to the pick-up date I attempted to contact Drake’s Pies via phone. To my disappointment, no incoming customer service calls were being accepted. After several failed attempts, I sent an e-mail via their website. But never received a response. At this point, I did what any reasonable person would do. On the pick-up date I drove to the location posted on their website, which was about 23 miles away, but not a big issue since I was also going to the L A Auto Show that day. Once I arrived at the location, there it was, the Drake’s Pie truck. My enthusiasm was soon extinguished when I was informed my order was not on the truck. Although to their credit, they were aware of the e-mail I sent that they never responded to. The representative whom informed me of the situation was very apologetic and offered me an apple and sweet potato pie in place of the pineapple cheese and peach cobbler pies I had ordered, which I declined. If I wanted an apple pie I would have bought one at Costco. Initially I was offered another option. The representative explained they had an issue with one of there trucks and it would be arriving in another 2 hours, which was not a plausible option since I was on my way to the L A Auto Show. At 3:30, after the auto show, I decided to give Drake’s another try. To my amazement, I was able to speak to a gentleman on their costumer service line who apologized and assured me I would receive my order by the end of the day, one way or the other. At this point, he said he would call me back to let me know where I could pick-up my order, which he did. During which time, he said he would call back to let me know what time. After waiting several hours for the return call, I sent a text asking what happened? He never called back to let me know when I could pick-up my order. I realize things don’t always go as planned. But failing to respond to a costumers e-mail and consciously not following through with an explanation after promising to rectify an issue is just poor business ethics. To be fair, Drake’s Pies does offer a free shipping option if your within 5 miles of their zip coed. Otherwise there’s an additional shipping charge. With that said, I’m giving Drake’s Pies a generous 1 star rating. Buyer be ware!

This company promised pies, kept my money and never delivered. Very disappointing holiday let-down. Used the groupon to order 2 pies based on an amazing first encounter. I placed an order for thanksgiving. Big problem… Truck broke down and the pies I wanted were not available. I was then told to pick them up later that evening. I showed up, to no avail. Was then told they would be delivered to me that night. All sorts of excuses were offered, but I have not heard nor seen from Drake’s pies since. They were neither taking nor returning calls. This company has exhibited some of the poorest customer service I have seen in a very long time. I cannot recommend.
