+ Price isn’t bad for the area($ 7.50~) + Sandwich tasted decent + Very clean place Came here for lunch the other day, nothing special really. They offer Boar’s Head meat as their main selling point. I got the pastrami on rye bread, it didn’t wow me, but did taste pretty good. I think I could have gotten better elsewhere. Either way, the sandwich was made in a timely manner, price wasn’t too bad, and service was nice. Not much to say about this place really, if you’re in the area and want some deli sandwiches, this place isn’t a bad place to go to.

Best Tuna Sandwich in LA — period. Get it on the Squaw bread — SOGOOD.

Started going to this location back in the 2006. The portions have diminished considerably since then. Last time I was there(a week ago), the sandwich was almost flat. I guess everyone needs to save a buck but I’d really like to get what I pay for. Three stars for poor portions. The food is good though.

This is the only old school deli on Bunker Hill. No frilly, vegan faux meat here. No wasabi aioli. No flax seed. No fads. Frankly, nothing your great grandmother wouldn’t immediately recognize as food. And that’s exactly why you should come here. Traditional, wholesome comfort food when that’s what you are looking for.(And when you are looking for setting different, feel free to eat elsewhere. This is the 21st century and mine is not to judge.)

Bland, flavorless sandwich. Lotta bread with this one. The only thing I could actually taste with my Salami Ham Turkey«Giant» Grinder was the onion and the mayo, which I asked, twice, NOT be included. I opened my sandwich to pick the onions off and noticed all the washed out looking lettuce and tomato. The meat was pretty sparse but the mayo, boy, the mayo was slathered on thick. Thoroughly mediocre in every way.

I just finished my first and last lunch from Dan’s Deli. I work in the area and have been making an effort to try everything around here. When I unwrapped my sandwich I was disappointed to see something I could have made at home which cost $ 7.50($ 10.00 once you add a pickle and chips). If it was $ 5.00 for lunch, I’d understand the appeal but I’d rather spend my money anywhere else(Specialty’s, Tacone, Mendocino Farms, Subway, Quizno’s, etc.).

Dan’s is my FAVORITE and I’ve been going there for years. Like, years. Their salad bar is not only the freshest — Trimana, yuck! — but it is the least expensive spot downtown. It’s simple, clean food made exactly the way you like it. If you are on jury duty at the Superior courthouse, trek down there and grab a salad or a sandwich. You can sit at Cal Plaza and watch the water fall and have a great meal outside. Highly recommend it.

My go to lunch place. Sandwiches, soup and salad not really much more to say about it. Is it amazing? no. But it’s passable, when you need to eat quickly and get back to work. Only half of the staff is nice. The other half(including the owner) is snotty and make you feel like your business is disruption their day. They run out of soup typically 2 – 3 hours before they close. It is apparently difficult to make the correct amount of soup. So if thats what your in the mood for… Get there between 12 and 1 or there are NO guarantees.

I hit up D. Dell’s not too long ago when looking for a spot to eat at in DTLA. They use Boar’s Head meat which sounds gross but it’s not really from the head of a boar. It’s from whatever animal was slaughtered for you to eat but not a boar, unless I’ve been gravely mistaken and not done my research appropriately. That’s what happens when you’ve been raised in a generation of school reports that are only written from Wikipedia articles. Anyway the sandwich was fairly good and I would probably come here again. Nothing really beats the Boar’s Head brand from meats — at least as far as I’ve known and that’s not much. Regardless, this is your friend Brian signing off, until next time. If you ever find yourself in a position to eat a sandwich and you’ve wandered into a sea of corporate looking dudes, then you might be near Dan’s Deli. If you are near Dan’s Deli then you might find yourself walking in and eating their bread and meat combos, and if this happens, well then you should thank me for telling you that it’s good. You’re welcome!

As I work in the California Plaza building, this is my go-to grab-n-go lunch place for yummy, affordable sandwiches, salads, and soups. Cold day? Why, yes, they have soup to warm your spirit. I really enjoy their clam chowder, chicken and cheese tortilla soup, and their chicken noodle soup. A large soup is only $ 3.25 and it comes with saltine crackers! Feeling healthy? Why, yes, they have a salad bar complete with fresh mixed greens, spinach, carrots, beets, beans, onions, hard-boiled eggs, corn, grilled chicken, and so much more! They also have pasta and fruit salad. I can fill up an entire container and have a hearty lunch for less than $ 5. It’s hard to find anything better than that around Bunker Hill. As for sandwiches, I LOVE the egg salad sandwich and their PB&J. It’s so gigantic, they cut it in half for you. The PB&J comes with such generous amounts of both peanut butter and jelly that it often oozes out when you bite into it. Now THAT is a great sandwich. As a plus, the lines go fast and the service is great. There’s a $ 6 minimum to use a credit card or they will tack on an extra $ 0.50 to your total. To avoid the fee, just bring cash in case your lunch comes out costing a lot less than you thought it would.

Looking for a savory, cheap breakfast options other than starbucks and famima!, I walked into Dan’s Deli. I got the egg, ham and cheese breakfast sandwich on sourdough bread that came out to 2.34(including tax.) The ham was a bit lacking, as it was only little pieces scrambled into the egg, but for 2.34, what more can you expect?

This is the only place on Bunker Hill that has Boar’s Head deli meat, unfortunately it’s like a Subway that serves good meats. The meat is precut and sliced fairly thick. Unfortunately I prefer my meat super thin, so it’s a disappointment. You also only have the option of sliced bread with a good amount of meat or a large roll that has two slices of meat. The service here is okay. I asked for oil and vinegar on a sub and the guy gave me white vinegar. I then got a small cup of oil and red wine vinegar, which I wasn’t charged for. The next time I came in they charged me for the oil and vinegar. The people working here don’t seem particularly happy, but they weren’t rude or slackers. If you’re in the mood for Boar’s Head then come here, but otherwise you can save a few bucks and hit up Subway.

Dan’s Deli is tucked away in the California Plaza near MOCA which makes this more of a place to pick up lunch while at work than a place to meet with friends. All of their meats and cheese are by Boars Head and their sandwich selections are very simple. You select your bread(White, Sourdough, Wheat, 7 Grain, Squaw, or Rye), select your meat, cheese, and then they add lettuce, tomato, mayo, and mustard. The fanciest thing they have here is a deli-mustard that gives a little spice. I ordered the«Ham Turkey Salami» on squaw bread sans mayo and it was a bit old school but reasonably priced at $ 6.95. The bread was slightly dry giving this place 3 stars. They were also very modest on the amount of mustard. Average sandwich gets an average rating.

So far I’ve only had the salad bar. It’s definitely cheaper than the other salad places on Bunker Hill and just as good. I predict I’ll become a regular here. The 1000 Island dressing was really good. The cashiers are very friendly.

Went during lunch hour and they were all out of soups and salads. It is very confusing when trying to order as they have lines coming from every direction. one line is to order just sandwiches and the other is for salads, soups and sides. their food selection is OK. Nothing looked worth trying, plus the high bar makes it hard to see items.

Dan’s Deli is a common stop for those on Bunker Hill, and especially those near the California Plaza towers. You can find it on the lower level, hidden in back and below the California One building. Don’t attempt to pay for parking just to visit this place, as it may come at a high price not worth the experience. Dan’s serves it up quick as you enter and stand behind a shoulder high counter. Ordering is done by viewing the menu on the wall and letting the sandwich maker/attendant know what you intend on consuming gleefully while no one is looking. I’ve had a number of the sandwiches here, the tuna, the beef brisket, and turkey. All of the sandwiches were satisfactory in taste, but were not considerably exceptional. I would like to also say that, however, the chicken tortilla soup was quite chunky the last time I had it a month ago. Dan’s can also be slightly higher in price, but below that of neighboring Mendocino Farms. It’s a good alternative to the neighboring stores-Salads Gourmet and Mendocino. Yet, it doesn’t stand out, and caters with a simple menu. I would find this as a place you don’t frequent if you’re in the area, but a place you check out if you want to exercise choice.

So let us put things in perspective right away, I eat at Subway… There I said it! They sometimes have $ 5 dollar specials and as I became underemployed, it is a quick CHAIN nosh when a hungry interviewee is on the move. But do not mourn dear reader things are looking up, and I thought to celebrate some financial windfalls by having lunch at Dan’s Deli on Friday. I ordered a cold meatloaf on rye, and the gents behind the counter went to work. They asked me about mustard and mayo and then lettuce and tomatoes, and boom I got my sandwich in less than 6 minutes. Very quick sandwich construction, I ordered a whole pickle on the side and was off to enjoy my sandwich. It was about 8 dollars, but I was splurging, and looking forward to my celebration lunch. The lovely young lady at the register lamented loudly as I stepped up to pay that she had just overcharged the customer that had paid for a chicken salad before me. She felt bad, and then rang me up. I was a little worried, but my celebration luncheon awaited and I really wanted to celebrate my small success. I found my table and opened up my sandwich, anxious to get to grinding. That is where my lunch went pear-shaped, the meatloaf, prepackaged Boars Head luncheon meat, was dry and flavorless. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh supermarket greens and the bread was typical soft mass market rye. Even the French’s yellow did not really perk up the blandness of the sandwich… I was disappointed, I mean how could a place called a deli make a more characterless sandwich than the faceless corporate sandwich mill Subway. Could I be spoiled by mass market mediocrity? I began to shudder I could have made a better sandwich, and I am just a poor wage slave with limited culinary skills… Oh Dan’s deli, you have disappointed me, and I cannot go back to you. There are a huge number of other lunch alternatives that are close, not to mention the food trucks on Grand, and the famous eateries of the Grand Central Market. I am sure Dan’s will not miss my custom… and I wish them continued success…

Dan’s Deli makes sandwiches. Warm sandwiches, cold sandwiches, meaty sandwiches, more meaty sandwiches, large sandwiches, and small sandwiches(?). I’m not sure, they all seem pretty large to me. Anyway, they make sandwiches. Those sandwiches are pretty good. So if you’re in the area and you want a sandwich, come here. If you’re not interested in a sandwich, you should probably go somewhere else.

Dan’s Deli is a great place to grab a basic quick sandwich on your lunch break downtown. Get here before the 11:30-noon rush because the lines can get long. I ONLY eat the tuna sandwiches here(or make a salad at the self serve bar with a scoop of their yummy tuna salad on top). Sandwiches are decently priced until you start adding extras(like cheese and avocado…) which are pricey. Ingredients are fresh and the bread is soft and yummy. They use Boar’s Head deli meats which are good quality. The tuna is GREAT they mix in sweet relish which I love. I wouldn’t come here if I didn’t work within walking distance because parking in this area is a mofo and EXPENSIVE and this is a no frills place. Can only use credit cards for purchases over $ 5.

Where else in Cal Plaza can you get a solid salad for under $ 4?! I worked here all summer and had to do quick lunches, and just got used to grabbing the $ 7 sushi or running to the taco truck or Mickey-D’s across the street. Never once thought to go to the deli for a salad. Tried it once this fall and LOVE it. The miso dressing is great, and the prices are reasonable. They keep their stuff out only until 1:30, so it stays fresh. Tons of ingredients, from spinach to corn, grilled chicken to mushrooms. Great selection for a small salad bar. No frills, but good, fresh taste. No pomp, no inflated price. Definitely gonna become one of my staples!
