Had this food Bread was cold. The food wasn’t good. No wonder it closed for good.

Wahhh! This place closed and I didn’t even realize! I’m sad about it, not only because I find them to be a legit restaurant to enjoy currywurst sausages and sauces, but they were the only place I know of in Western United States to serve my beloved Spaghetti Eis! For the few times I was able to make it out to this shop, I enjoyed the savory experience of one of Germany’s signature dishes. They had additional flavors and toppings on the menu, and I liked their fries as well. And the décor/theme – it popped and was a great backdrop to enjoy your meal. I’m disappointed that they probably didn’t receive the amount of clientele the other currywurst restaurants got around LA. So Dankeschon, you will be missed.

Currywurst should hurry fast and work out a deal with Costco to sell commercial sized portions of their sauce. I stumbled across this joint on a quest for some authentic German food and consequently discovered currywurst and their curry ketchup. Their signature sauce is more like a fresh tomato marinara with a tangy and savory curry taste than the Heinz that comes to mind. I was hooked at first taste. The value here is fair. Atmosphere is casual and trendy, just up the drag from many interesting downtown sites. If that isn’t enough to sell you on a visit, this fun, hip, and socially network aware venture is(according to the counter server) apparently a past time hobby to a chef that has a catering business feeding such events as major Hollywood award affairs and a Dustin Hoffman party. While you’re in take a shot at the novelty spaghetti ice cream. It looks just like spaghetti, but tastes all dessert. Don’t forget to grab a punch card, you’ll be on your way to a free currywurst in no time.

This place is pretty legit! You can’t really go wrong with anything, really, but since I love anything with a kick, I’m a huge fan of the Hungarian. One thing to bear in mind – it may not be as quick a stop as you expect. They take their sweet time with your food, but only to make sure it’s done right.

This is the only place I have had currywurst, so I might not be the most qualified judge but so far I think it is delicious! Last time I stopped by, I had the Chipotle Vegan Sausage on a bun and the boyfriend had the Chicken Thuringer Sausage with Pomme Frittes with Chipotle mayo on the side. The Vegan Chipotle Sausage itself did have some kick to it, but was not overly spicy. The currywurst sauce is super tasty and you can choose your own spice level –little, medium and hot. Maybe the spice of the Vegan Chipotle Sausage option disguised the taste better, but an not fan of the Vegan Apple Sausage –maybe the hint of sweetness killed it for me. The boyfriend says tired all the sausage options and liked them all! Except the Bockwurst(pork/veal), which had an acquired taste. The employees are nice and very helpful in answering any questions about the menu. I like that they have various other types of hot sauces and mustards within arms reach. Last time in they had the AC on full blast which was nice because it is a small place and can get hot inside with the kitchen area in close proximity. Fortunately they also have a few tables and benches/chairs outside in case you want to people watch on Fairfax while dining. Overall, I am a fan and will back again soon!

Adam D spied this gem across the street while we were in line to watch my favorite show Late, Late Night with Craig Ferguson. Its a small unassuming looking business right across CBS. This was our last opportunity to eat while in line for the show. So off he went while I stayed and entertained myself in line listening to people tell their story about movie star sightings. Lol! Currywurst describes their offerings as authentic German sausage or Bockwurst. It was one of the best sausage in my mouth that day. Made me forget where I was.(get your mind off the gutter:) My first bite my wurst responded by popping its skin and the juices just flowed in my mouth. Definitely freshly boiled and then grilled. Just the way I like it. It leaves the interior juicy . So– I’m still thinking about my SoCal sausage. Definitely good looking and tasty!

Waiting in line for a CBS Late Late Night Show with Craig Ferguson, I spotted this place across the street. It was my last opportunity to get some food before the show. Although this was not a planned visit, I’m glad I was able to try this place out. The service was super friendly. Carlos and I had a cultured conversation while he prepared my order. In a rush, I had very little time to peruse their menu, so I settled on the first thing that grabbed my attention. I ordered the Bockwurst on a donut bun and skipped the sautéed onions to keep it clean, as I was going to consume it while standing in line for the show. The sausage was first boiled then grilled, making a perfect juicy and crunchy wurst. The donut roll, which I have never had was quite delicious, definitely on the sweet side. With homemade sweet and spicy mustard garnishing it, the wurst was a total winner and quite satisfying as well. It’s a shame I didn’t get to enjoy this place thoroughly, as the interior décor was pleasant and the menu had a variety of sauces(eight) and options to create a perfect wurst. Germans definitely know how to make a wurst, and I’m glad I was able to taste this national treasure.

I grew up in Germany and I love Currywurst. This store is the best you can find to eat original German Currywurst in Los Angeles. In Germany the taste of Currywurst is different from every region you go to. From Dortmund to Cologne you can find different stores with different flavor.(I tried a lot of them) At Currywurst they use the best ingredients you can get and it taste just awesome, I love the fries and the regular sausage. And you have to try the homemade sweet and spicy mustard, it’s the best . The store is super clean, and the service is very friendly and helpful. When you go there, try different sausages and different types of sauce. You will love it . Thanks for bringing a little bit of home to L.A.

delicious food! loved my donut sausage(a sausage on a DONUT bun((seriously who knew that existed))). and the fries were very crisp and delicious. LOVED the mayo ranch sauce, must try. and the people that worked there were so helpful, nice, and cared a lot about the restaurant. you KNOW if employees like working there, they must be doing something right. will go back again,

«I said a beef hot links, I said a beef hot links …’ you know the rest. This place is maybe more of a 3.5 for the currywust itself and I’ll tell you why. I have no idea what a currywurst is. I still don’t know if I know what a currywurst is. So what they did was throw curry powder onto a sausage(or is it a wurst?). I don’t think I got any of the curry, since mines was drowned in the curry ketchup. But the sausage was excellent. I don’t remember which one I got, but it was good. The fries were good too, and since the cook gave me normal fries instead of the garlic fries, he gave me a free cookie, which was pretty damn good. I would come again, cause the wurst is solid, but I don’t think it would ever be for the curry part, cause it’s lost in translation.

Not a big fan of Indian food, but I’m not too picky since I like trying new things, esp. food! I got the Apple Vegan dog with a side of fries and bun. It wasn’t bad at all but it doesn’t make me crave it again. The service was very friendly and helpful. He knew we were out of towners so he took the time to explain the different items on the menu and what«currywurst» was. Wouldn’t beg to come back here but I would give it another shot.

I have never had Currywurst before, so when I found out that there was one nearby I knew I had to check it out! This place is right next to a Thai restaurant and located on a busy street, so parking may be a pain. Once we arrived, we were promptly greeted, and asked whether we were from out of town. After telling him we were not and letting him know we never had Currywurst before, Santiago(I think that’s his name) gladly showed us what Currywurst is by showing pictures of what each type of serving they have. All looked good, but I still decided to stay safe and ordered a Hungarian sausage with onions and curry powder, along with curry ketchup. My GF ordered the the actual Currywurst which is basically sliced up sausages served with curry powder and a bun, that is separate. Both were really good! Sausages tasted really flavorful and the curry ketchup that went along with it, was one of the best I have ever tasted! I love curry and I love sausages, so having both of these together was awesome. Overall, I certainly recommend this place if you’re in the area and I would make sure to order the Currywurst with Hungarian and curry ketchup!

The worst thing about Currywurst is probably the parking in the area. The staff is great, asking if it’s your first time there and explaining the menu then offering tickets to the Late late show later. More places really need to do this instead of just looking at you impatiently as you try to figure out the menu. For the food: Currywurst– sausage sliced and with curry powder and curry-ketchup was great. I’m surprised they game me a roll with it as well but it did help to sop up the leftover curry– ketchup. BTW I had the Hungarian. I also got to taste a Bockwurst sausage my friend had on a bun. I like the currywurst better but can’t say on a bun is bad. The fries(I got regular but garlic is no extra charge) were crisp and fresh — worth a visit just for themselves. My only real complaint is the medium curry isn’t very spicy at all so I’m going to get the hot one next time. I’ll also have to try the spaghetti ice cream one day.

My friend just came back from her Europe trip where she went to Berlin and had authentic currywurst(Curry36?). I saw her pictures and wanted to try it, so off we went! You can get the currywurst(the sausage cut up into bite size pieces, smothered in sauce, and served with the tiniest cutest fork ive ever seen) by itself or with a side of fries(garlic or sweet potato), and you can also get the sausages in the form of hot dogs with sauerkraut. My friend got the brockwurst(the traditional, which is a mix of veal and pork) with garlic fries, and i opted for the hungarian sausage, which is slightly spicy pork. you can also choose the spiciness of the sauce.(i, of course, got the spicy sauce) and boy… it was delicious!!! the sausages had a nice crisp on the outside, the sauce was hearty and full of flavor, and the spicy level was just the right amount for it to be a great kick of taste. and the garlic fries were deliciously crispy. they also have the currywurst donut special… where the hot dog bun is replaced by donuts shaped like hot dog buns… witty…but…artery clogging… my friend approved.(although she misses her Berlin adventures). I approve. yum!

YUM. Another A+ wurst joint, right up there with Wurstkuche. Located in a very small shop right across the street from CBS on Fairfax near The Grove, Currywurst serves up some mean sausages. Their options aren’t as wide or as interesting as Wurstkuche’s, but the flavors and quality of food they put out is really good, especially for the price. For $ 19(thanks to a 10% off deal with a Unilocal check-in!), we got 2 sausages with roll, sauerkraut, and sauteed onions as add-ons, a side of garlic fries with chipotle mayo dipping sauce, and a fountain drink. Although they were both amazing, if I had to pick one I liked more, I’d choose the Hungarian sausage. The Chicken Thuringer was also very good, but I think pork meat is what’s meant to go in a sausage. They were both hefty in size, flavorful and most importantly, juicy. The garlic fries were crispy and had decent garlic flavor, but we got less than a thumb full of actual garlic pieces near the bottom of the basket. I wish they would have put more. It is garlic fries, after all. One thing that slightly annoyed me were all the«add-on» charges that, literally, adds on to your bill, such as the $.50 charge for dipping sauce, $ 1 for sauteed onions, and $ 1 for sauerkraut. My bf and I were the only two in the restaurant but it took a good 15 minutes or so to get our food, which I take to mean everything they cook up is fresh. They also told us their specials change every now and then, because we asked for their chili cheese fries and looked disappointed when they didn’t have it anymore. Their current special is the spaghetti ice cream. It would be AWESOME if they served some beers to offset the heaviness of the sausages! Street parking is relatively easy to find, but note that the meters near there run until 8pm.

35% About average experience. Not a fan of the ‘currywurst fries’ approach. ***Short Review*** Came here for dinner Oct’12. This was my first time trying the whole ‘currywurst’ thing, and I didn’t care for the whole idea overall as well as some choices in execution here. I don’t think it was bad, so much as it was kinda average overall. I ordered the ‘bockwurst’ sausage with a ketchup curry sauce, curry powder, with fries. What I enjoyed was that the bockwurst sausage itself was pretty good. It was juicy inside, pretty tasty in a more subtle way, and had a light sear on the outside. The curry ketchup itself, I thought just overpowered the bockwurst too much. The sauce is really too sweet and heavy for me. The fries were about average as well, as I thought the seasoning was too heavy handed. Im sure I would have enjoyed a regular bockwurst hot-dog from them much more. Value is not that great for $ 10, give or take. On the surface it seems like a lot of food, but most of it’s just starch. Service was good. The guy working there was friendly, helpful, and very efficient. Detailed Review will look at the dish further. ***Detailed Review*** CURRYWURST Your choice of sausage(Bockwurst, Hungarian or Chicken Thüringer) sliced with Curry Powder(mild, medium or hot) and Homemade Curry-Ketchup. With french fries and mayonnaise(rot/wiess) $ 9.50. –Pic Overall this was about average for me. It was far from bad, but not something I could say I enjoyed a lot. My main gripe was that the sauce used was too overpoweringly sweet, especially for the milder bockwurst sausage I choose. The two dominant flavors was the sweet sauce and the saltiness from the seasoning in the fries. Both were a bit harsh, but it just didn’t work for me. Flavor of the sauce seemed more ketchup than curry to me. For some reason, it reminded me of a supermarket BBQ sauce. Despite requesting the spiciness levels to ‘medium’(from hot, mild, and medium), it seemed very mild to me. Wiping aside the sauce, I found the sausage to be reasonably delicious. it was fairly juicy and pleasant. I’m not sure I can say it works as well as say what you might find at Wurstkuche, but if Im in the area and looking for a hotdog, I would certainly considering returning for a bockwurst hotdog, sans the curry ketchup here. The fries that Currywurst gives you are okay. What’s nice is that the serving temps are very hot. The potatoes themselves are cooked nicely with a good crisp on the outside, but maybe a bit heavier in. Its a bit more starchy than I’d care for. Seasoning is also more heavy handed. On top of this, a hotdog bun is also given, although I’m not sure why it would be needed. I didn’t use much of it, but I don’t want to complain about free food either. Overall the meal was a bit heavy, and I think I’m just not a fan of this whole currywurst thing. One last important detail is that no alcohol is served on the premise. It’s a shame you can’t enjoy some good German, or German inspired fare without a decent beer. I can’t recommend Currywurst outside of convenient necessity.
