All you really need to know at the Cuchifritos Truck is that Pollo Guisado means Chicken Stew. Now if you don’t like chicken stew, you may want to find another truck as it is the key feature in every entrée, but they do a fantastic job here, and I think most of you will love it like I did. I ordered the Pollo Gusado con Arroz y Sandules, which is the Chicken Stew with rice and pigeon peas. The rice is fluffy and fried to order, and topped with a lot of Guisado, tiny well-marinated pieces of chicken. I was sort of neutral on the pigeon peas, tiny dark brown peas that seemed to neither add or detract from the dish. I am sure it added some extra protein, but I didn’t pick up on any flavor. They also offer the guisado over a salad(with eggplant) and in a sandwich and in sandwich(with green peppers) but those were the only entrees. Truck owner Diane must be super-confident in the chicken as she doesn’t even include pork, beef, fish or any other meats on the menu. The price was $ 11.00, which was one of the most expensive meals of my 188 truck visits. In fact it may be the most expensive non-lobster meal of all, and I guess you all will have to decide for yourself whether it’s worth it. With a side and a drink, your meal will run between $ 15.00 to $ 17.50. In this economy that’s enough to make most of us flinch. I thought about marking it down a star because of the price but it was too dammmm good. I sent Diane a Facebook link with the Los Angeles Smoke Free Dining law, and I fully expect you will see the proper signs on the truck later this week.
