Cuban Shoe Repair Man in a Van

This man’s work ethic alone deserves 5 stars. My brother has come various times to have athletic shoes repaired and they have come out amazingly and at a fraction of the price of other local shoe repair places.

Sorry to burst the bubble, but let me tell you about the time I took my sandals to this man in the van.
The elastic on the ankle-​strap needed replacing because it had stretched out. He said he could repair them and they would be ready in one day.
I went a few days later and they were NOT ready.
I went once more and they were STILL not ready.
The third time I went, he could barely find them — it took him 20 minutes digging through his van. He put them in a paper bag and charged me $ 5.
When I get home, I take them out of the bag, and guess what? They had not been repaired.
I was so mad that I went back for my money, and he started to cry and make up some story about some guy that had held him up at gunpoint and had taken all his cash the night before, so could I come back for the cash another day. I didn’t buy his story, but I gave it a few days and went back for my money. I guess he saw that I was serious about getting it back and he paid up.
As much as I wanted to support this guy who works out of his van, and also have a great shoe repair a few blocks from my house, I just cannot abide by his shady behavior.
