Went here to try the fire chicken as it was listed as one of the 10 spiciest dishes in LA. Not much flavor and barely any spice — something arond the level of tabasco at best. Disappointing compared to any decent Szechuan restaurant in SGV.

First off this place is so random and I came here on a mission which was to get as drunk as possible without spending to much money… mission accomplished! Probably best to go with someone asian or someone that understands/speaks korean, then you wont get as many awkward looks like I did. 5 stars for the funny korean pop music videos!

3.5 stars Towers of beers?!? Before you start reading the rest of the review, just to warn you, this restaurant does let smokers smoke indoors, so stop here if you already lost your interest. Came here for a coworker’s farewell event, we just had to celebrate it the crazy hook way. Decoration — Felt like I was in a pirate’s ship. Fish nets and pirates everywhere! Pros about this place — BOOZE! Yes, they have tall beer dispensers that will make you go: O and flavored Soju that’ll make you want to try all the flavors — Korean food! You will thank their food after all the drinking you’ve been doing — Great place with a group of friends and it’s cheaper when you split it Cons about this place — Sticky floor. I don’t know what to say to you ladies who wear heels… Just try not to trip. — They do allow people to smoke inside, so if you don’t like smokers or do not want to inhale it while you are drinking and eating, you will not like it here, unless you can put up with it. We had a party of 12 and we were seated inside a room with another group of people. The other group smokes, but they were generous enough to walk outside to smoke instead of doing it inside. Oh… thank you! We had two 5000c beer towers combos, Yes, two! One Bluemoon and one Amber, which came with any two food. We got the dukbokki(rice noodle in a cut roll with this interesting red sauce, like a kimchi sauce), seafood pancake(so thick and so good!) We got 3 bottles of soju with a combo of any one food, and we got wings. The wings were okay. By the end of the night, we ended up eating and drinking with the random group who sat next to us. Bill came out to be around $ 172 of 12 people already including tip, so it was around $ 15 per person. Wasn’t too bad. Can’t wait to come here again with another event and hopefully bump into a similar group like these people we met.

They say that«Hindsight is 20÷20». I’m inclined to agree. With that being said, this is my 2nd review for Crazy Hook… My first review which was a 4 star rating on Unilocal for some mysterious reason simply vanished. Completely erased and no trace of evidence that I had even wrote a review even though it was already posted… Interesting. I think my first review might have been too generous. In all honesty, the drop from 4 – 2 stars is a result of me thinking it over and yes this place is actually Meh. It’s alright. But then again as the 2 stars suggest. I’ve experienced better. It’s decent. It’s adequately put as a Pirate Theme Bar in K-Town. If that floats your boat then you’ll be a happy camper. Their beer columns are ridiculous. Came here with a bunch of friends who ordered one and I was astounded by the sheer size of how big it was.(TWSS) If you’re looking for a pre-party spot. This place is cool.

This is a pretty cool pirate themed korean spot to chill out at and have a couple beers or flavored soju, and smoke some ciggy’s if you want because they allow it inside. During our visit it wasn’t hot boxed at all so I appreciated that very much. People I came with stayed with the flavored soju which sucked because i wanted to try out the beer tube damn it. The soju flavors we ordered were the mango, peach, and pineapple. Peach was horrible and didn’t even taste like peach but the other two were good. For entertainment they have several mounted tv’s showing korean music videos which was pretty funny to watch. If this place wasn’t too far from me I’d definitely come back for a true booze night and what not.

If the first time I came here was any indication, then the second time would be just as much of a blast! There are a few exceptions though. Let’s get the bad over with first. It was HOT in there! My friends and I were in a sauna sweating! Clothes had to be taken off, no kidding. It does not help either that you are seated on wooden benches! It had gotten so bad that once we finished everything we had to book it! Second, the nachos that was supposed to contain meat, did not have a trace of meat in it. Cheese, too, was negligible. Third, the kiwi soju, although very tasty, had no trace of alcohol. It is always very unfortunate when places cheap out on alcohol. You are better of getting the bottled soju’s. Now to the silver lining: beer towers and soju galore! Oh how it makes it all better. The 2,000cc contains approximately 5 beers of Blue Moon for 28 bucks. I love Blue Moon! Although it may not be the best deal, it is hard to complain as you are downing beer poured by a tower. The sight itself is nice! Next, the gizzards were delicious! It is hard to find the dish itself at other places, so it complemented the beer pretty well. The music videos in the background, although on repeat, gave a nice atmosphere. K pop everywhere! Overall, this is a nice place for drinking games, chilling, and having a good time with friends.

This place is so cool it makes polar bears wear sweaters when they enter Crazy Hook! I missed out a year or two ago when my friend’s birthday was here due to a wedding. So, over the weekend, my friends and I came here for some beer and flavor soju. We got the 2000cc of Blue Moon because it was only my boyfriend and Byron N. who would be drinking the beer. It was about 4 – 5 glasses. It cost $ 28.99 and came with an order of a food item. You could choose anything on the menu except for the platters on the last page. We went for the Chicken Gizzard($ 12.99) because I love me some chicken gizzard! It tasted really good. Came in a sizzling pan with onion slices and such. A bit oily than I’m used to but still good. In addition, we got the Kiwi flavor soju via suggestions of Sidney T. and though I tasted no alcohol at all, after my 3rd shot, things got blurry. I also convinced my friends to order the Ultimate nacho because of the reviews on Unilocal. It was far from ultimate. In fact, it was nothing. There was less than 10 pieces of meat in it and a bed of chopped lettuce. Ugh. We found parking on the street and came around midnight so the place was not packed at all and got seated right away. Service was good because they had a button you press if you need something. There’s a projector and tv screens around so I imagine it’s a good spot to watch games. The place is decorative in pirate theme. They played a lot of Korean music videos the night we went including Gangnam Style, my new jam thanks to Alex P. They played it twice that night along with the music video. People were actually dancing along. I’m looking forward to coming back soon!

I feel like this place use to be a seafood restaurant and it bombed. Then the place was bought by lazy people and left all the pirate stuff. And there you have it… a pirate themed Korean bar… Now I don’t know about you but they have an odd assortment of food that I don’t know if I want to try. They have standard appetizers like nachos, chicken wings, and potato skins. I’m not saying they are bad, but do I really want to combine that with an entrée like kimchi fried rice or bulgogi? I don’t think my stomach can handle it. We had some honey toast and it wasn’t bad. It’s a good snack to absorb alcohol. Other then that I think drinks and pita chips are enough for me here. Open late so a good place to get hammered.

Do you like tacky pirate themed bars with absolutely no connection to the food or service? Do you like sub-par Korean food that all have the same doenjang sauce? Longing to see the latest manufactured boy/girl band Korean videos? Then you’re totally in luck! I get the whole kitsche-ness of the pirate theme, but they don’t want to seem to commit besides just the decorations and statues so it seems disconnected somehow. The food is just ehh, the sauces all taste the same. They do have those giant beer drafts you can order, but with the pirate theme it just made the place feel like a sad Chuck E Cheese place that was abandoned in the 90’s. The videos playing on the flat screens of the latest music bands were put on mute and different music was playing over the speakers. Weird! We did have fun picking out the characters in the boy/girl bands(there’s the preppy one, the outsider, the rebel, the loner, etc)

Was here last Saturday. Came back this Saturday. Still in love with their sweet pita chips. Ate more chips than drink beer. Yummm~ And once again we ordered wayyyy too much beer! Haha. Those beer tubes contain more alcohol than one expects. Do not underestimate their size!!! This place is perfect for large groups. Last time I came with 3 other buddies. This time there were 11 of us. Great casual chill out spot for all sizes. 5STARS for awesome casual chill spot. 3.5STARS for the food.(5STARS for the pig feet. Other food was more spicy than delicious) 10STARS for beer tubes and pita chips!!!(i think i got my point across)

What’s up with K-town and its pirate-themed bars/restaurants? Kooky! As far as theme goes, Crazy Hook’s is pretty fun. Lots of netting and statues and masts and of course — tons of flatscreen TVs playing the best of K-Pop music videos. Remember music videos? Awww, nostalgia! Can’t go wrong with Hite beer — that’s always our go-to beverage in this part of town. We tried their HOOKSAMPLER(fried mozarella sticks, potato skins with cheese and bacon, and fried chicken wings) and it wasn’t that bad. I’d say they need to up their seasoning a couple of notches, then you’d get a fried winner! We’ve also tried their SHRIMPSPRINGROLLS — those are ok too. We’ve gone only on weeknights, and those times have all been pretty dead. Be wary in group situations though — they can only split the bill in 3 cards max, luckily there’s an ATM somewhere next door. Not the best food, but the cool décor and great service(there are service buttons at every table that summon them!) make for a cool spot.

My new favorite place!!! Their happy hour is daily(that means weekends too!) from 5−9pm and pretty much all the food is 50% off. We got the sweet pita chips and pickles to start. Both were really good and the waitresses refilled them without us asking! We got the spicy rice cakes with chicken, kimchi pancake, and pirate sampler. The pirate sampler had mozzarella sticks, chicken wings, and potato skins. They didn’t give marinara sauce of the mozzarella sticks. No sour cream for the potato skins either. The chicken wings were so good and crispy and hot but everything else was average. Kimchi pancake was good too, it was covered with mozzarella, which was a little strange but it worked out. The rice cakes were SPICY but so, so good. Wish there was a little more though. Half of the dish was onions and bell peppers. We decided not to drink so our bill was only $ 20 for 4 people! People were smoking inside so don’t wear your nice clothes unless you want them to smell like an ashtray.

I recently went here for a friend’s birthday and found it to be interesting. A ship wreck themed Korean restaurant who’s selling point to my friend was drinking beer out of a 3,000L titration tube. LOL! If you’re a science nerd you might have an appreciation for that. I wouldn’t eat here only because I’m not a fan of Korean food, but it’s a fun time if you go with friends and just order your own personal 3,000 L titration tube filled with Coors. If you’re into K-Pop, Korean food, beer and pirates then this is the spot!

Crazy Hook is a Korean pirate bar on a not-so-happening stretch of Wilshire Boulevard. It’s decorated with yard sale pirate statues and giant pictures of Captain Jack Sparrow, found in lazy Google Image searches and printed onto cloth banners. Rope and netting hang from the ceiling, and the theme is repeated in almost every aspect of the décor.(Between pirate paraphernalia, flatscreen TVs hang on the walls, but hey, why not.) It’s a lot of fun, and I’m not sure why ironic white people haven’t laid claim to the place. Oh, right. It’s also supremely Korean. The music is strictly provided by bands with names like 2NE1 and Shiny, and if you go on a festive night, you will hear a Korean pop«Happy Busday» song every half hour. The menu consists of Korean bar favorites, and when you want service, you press the good-old button. Your servers will not be busty wenches, but skinny Korean boys in their twenties. The crowd is likewise almost 100% Korean. Expect lots of Korean chatter, loud drinking games, and a hefty dose of cigarette smoke. But if you’re Korean, or if you feel comfortable in a Korean habitat, Crazy Hook is a great place to spend a revelrous night eating and drinking. There’s always plentiful seating, and stuff is pretty cheap. It requires zero advance planning and there’s no hassle or crowd once you get there. I haven’t tried much of the food, but I’ve liked what I’ve seen. As soon as you sit down, you get things to snack on that go great with beer — sweet fried wonton crisps, and pickled cucumber and radish. You can order food a la carte, but there are so many ways to combine it with your alcohol that price-wise, you’re better off getting a set deal. To give you an idea, a 3000cc tube of beer with your choice of any one dish goes for $ 41 with tax, a few dollars cheaper if you opt for the bottom shelf. I’ve had the sweet and sour chicken stir-fry, and it was pretty damn tasty, with moist breaded chicken and lots of vegetables and sauce. And yes, about that 3000cc tube. If you wander into Crazy Hook, you’ll notice that most tables feature cylinders of beer hovering over the heads of the seated. The cylinders are equipped with little spigots that allow you to fill up at will. It’s a fun way to drink, and 3000cc is good for about ten full beers. You can also get larger and smaller sizes, depending on how much beer you can handle. I like the Blue Moon, which comes with a bowl of orange wedges, but there are a few other options on the menu. Nothing fancy, but serviceable. I’ve only been to Crazy Hook a couple of times, but I have a lot of fondness for the place. I love the atmosphere, and the food and drink are good and cheap. Every city should have a Korean pirate bar, but I’m willing to bet we’re one of the lucky few. We should all take full advantage.

Totally a fan of this place. — Easy to get seats for large parties on weekends too! — $ 2 Valet Parking right in front by the alley — Large Beer Pongs — Great for bdays, include song and allow cakes — Great for your Ktown dinner and drinks for the night — Themed Restaurant, rRRRRrrrr! — Service is awesome, they actually pay attention to you or hear you out even if you ain’t Korean! Cons — Expensive for certain foods — Decent good side of food — Probably best for those that love spiciness in their life — Parking, if its full you’re crapped out of luck cause street parking is hard to find. — Most staff knows english pretty well, only some are limited. Great for Bday gatherings. They take RSVP. The front more secluded room fits up to 30 people. If you have more people, they can reserve the outside long table closest to this room. Food: Spicy foods. Rice cake dish is good and other more korean dishes. Not much main stream food except for chicken wings.

I knew I was in for a good night when I found out I was going to a Korean pirate-themed restaurant/lounge what have you. Supposedly they have a really great happy hour and hopefully I’ll get to partake in it one day. Don’t expect to be getting beer from a boring old bottle/can. Think Yardhouse. They are dispensed into a tall beaker-like contraption and you can drink as you please. Pretty cool idea if you ask me but I’m thinking it’s because the wait staff is trying to make it easier on themselves by not having to come by the tables so often. I’m not sure if I was hit with the mango soju or not but I think this place serves up the best dukbokki I’ve ever had. We got the seafood dukbokki and that hot sauce was the best thing I’ve ever tasted. It was sweet but it was definitely spicy at the same time. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much of the rice noodles so I ended up ordering a bowl of rice after and just poured the hot sauce over it. You get mussels, a bunch of squid and seafood pancakes inside. It’s like you’re fishing for seafood because the bowl is so deep. Guess what? You can also smoke inside. It’s like you’re living in a darn ash tray. That’s the one thing I don’t like.

Wooohooo I love my Korean pirates! :) This place is great, especially their happy hour which is M-F 5−8pm so when I worked in Downtown LA, me and the co-workers went here on a weekly basis(Thursdays and Fridays) and left buzzed and satisfied. My favorite is the 2000−5000ccs of beer! It’s definitely not cheap and not included in the happy hour special but well worth it if you have a group of 3+. Yogurt soju is a must try and tastes exactly like Yakult! YUMM! Their food is worth it during happy hour because the portions are huge but NOT worth it for full price($ 10 – 13 a plate). They denote a spicy dish with a chili picture, and trust them, it’s damn spicy. And on certain dishes, it’s all you can taste so it can be alittle overwhelming. We love to come to this place with our friends and get plastered then take pictures with the pirates statues all around. The servers don’t really speak English so it can be a little annoying when you’re saying more than«Beer» and«Soju» because they kind of give you a duhhhh look. Also, they used to allow cig-smokers to light chimneys and that got really annoying really fast, especially during a Friday/Saturday night. They even promoted it by putting ash trays on the tables INSIDE the restaurant. But I guess they got in trouble or something(because it’s illegal to do that) so it’s noticibly less sufficating in there. Go here next time you’re in LA and definitely give it a try when you’re in the Koreatown neighborhood.

Came here a month ago after going to Moo Dae Po 2 with my Crossfit friends. As soon as I saw the window display with pirates, I knew that my friends would love this place. The inside is impressive looking – dark atmosphere, pirate shit everywhere. Since we were a large group we were seated in a separate place and since most of us were already drunk, we were completely loud and order a shatload of HITE beer. The waiters passed out cinnamon crisps that we kept on getting(ANDISFREE-99! WHADDUP!) My friend wanted something small and sweet and of course this BEHEMOTH French Toast appears before us! We all dug in and stuffed our faces even though our bellies were full of wonderful Korean BBQ. The service was decent. Nothing to write home about. I would love to come back next time to actually try the food and maybe even remember what had happened.
