I’ve been shopping here since 2000, 14 years. I probably have 8 rods wrapped by Mr. Hong altogether, and every cow tuna I’ve caught has been on one of his rods(10 so far and going for more next week) He works hard and focuses on his work intently, so you might have to wait a minute or two sometimes when you go there when he’s in the middle of wrapping a rod. Be patient and polite and you’ll get great prices and service. This guy is old school, which I appreciate. He doesn’t put up with belligerence or disrespect. Come in with that attitude and he won’t even talk to you, which is one of the reasons I respect the guy, along with the great work he does. It takes a little time to get on the inside level with this dude, but put in the time, because his work and the little extras he will do for you are well worth it. Mr. Hong is a hard working craftsman and a friendly guy once you get to know him. I know several long range guys who go out of their way to shop there. It’s not like tackle central there, there are more stocked tackle stores, but he does usually have a lot of the things you’ll need. If you haven’t been here, check it out it’s worth it.

I have been going to Cosmos since 2004. Mr. Hong helped me out on picking and building fishing rods for the style of fishing I do. I just tell him what reels I have and he gives me suggestions on what rods I need. He really knows his stuff when it comes to rods and reels. He has built me Calstar Grafighters, a Super Seeker Ulua and a Shikari with custom wraps and Fuji silicone guides for less than what I would pay at any tackle or big name stores. I am impressed with the quality and speed of his work. Although he doesn’t have a lot of terminal tackle on hand, I still seem to find everything I’m looking for every time I go. If you’re looking for a quality custom rod or high end reel without the high price tag, or just to get your reel fixed then come to Cosmos and see Mr. Hong.

Awful customer service, wouldn’t let me bring bike inside in order to make a purchase. Man just said no and turned away. Called after to complain and he hung up on me. Seriously just shop somewhere else.

Mr Hong, the owner of Cosmos Sports specializes in custom rods and reel repair. On a Saturday, I needed some service done on a Newell 338 I recently acquired, on a rush. When most places take a week(thats normally a rush at other establishments) to 4 weeks, Mr Hong had it ready for me by the following Monday. He didnt even charge me extra for a rush. Talk about customer service! I was able to cas farther and landed 2 yellows on that reel, so needless to say, he does a good job on reel repair. I browsed through his custom rods and can tell Mr. Hong is a skilled craftsman. When I am ready for another custom rod, I will undoubtedly visit Mr. Hong. Unfortunately Mr. Hong doesnt have very much terminal tackle, I think he spends his time concentrating on reels and custom rods. Which is fine by me, for terminal tackle I go to Joys(see review) down the street… kinda
