I had my wedding dress done here.
Yes, my WEDDING DRESS — from scratch. For $ 550. For Reals. See my second profile picture to see how amazing it came out!
Naomi is the main seamstress here and she was so sweet. SHe was perfectly accomodating and every time I explained what I wanted, or needed adjusted, she always delievered exactly what I envisioned — and more!
The only downfall — which I knew going into it — was that no one in the store speaks or understands english very much, and i don’t speak Spanish — so I always brought a friend to translate. Turned out to be great though because I ended up spending more time with my bridesmaids doing wedding stuff together!
You come in and bring several pictures of dresses you like, or elements from different pictures you want to bring together. She gets out blank paper and sketches out the silhouette, the neckline, everything. She then takes measurements and starts by making the sample dress.
You then try the sample on (usually a cotton/​muslin-​like fabric, and can tweak everything you want here. I ended up wanting to change the bottom of my dress to a more mermaid-​like cut, changed my dress neckline from v– to square-​neck, etc.
Then, because I wanted an intricate lace for my dress, she brought in two samples. She has a deal with a cloth shop in downtown LA and goes all the way down there and picks samples for you yourself. In my case, I didn’t like the samples, and she offered to meet me there one morning for me to browse myself — then she bought it herself and the next time I came — the dress was made!
Naomi so perfectly understood my vision that she even brought along a thin pearl-​flower trim for under my best and along my neckline.
We even experimented with buttons — she sewed in like 50 pearl buttons, but they ended up looking too big and crowded. so she took out every single one and sewed in cloth buttons.
The dress was absolutely perfect. At the last minute I lost some more weight (unintentionally) and she cinched it in for free even though it was already paid for and picked up!
This place is amazing!
The actual store is dirty and ghetto — but it doesn’t affect the brilliance of Naomi!
