I keep trying to like this place because of the proximity to my house but every time we’ve gone has been a fail. While the food is pretty good it is apparent that the owner/manager has a long way to go with regards to staffing and service. There are too few servers on the floor and the other weekend when we arrived half of their menu was unavailable because the prep wasn’t finished. If the owner/manager is reading this… spend the extra $$$ getting ur prep cooks in before the doors open and put an extra server or two on the floor during the weekend rushes.

Had buttermilk pancakes and Green Goddess Omelet – both decent, but pancakes were dry and omelet dish a bit underwhelming. Service was decent but I couldn’t shake the feeling that our waitress couldn’t give a sh*t. I will likely not make a repeat visit.

Excellent eggs benedict with in house smoked Canadian bacon! Lovely chat with owner Monique, too. I’ll be back to try the green goddess omelet and other menu items. Current owners have been here 2 years so if you haven’t tried Cindy’s in a while you need to come back.

What a spunky little hipster spot. I enjoyed this diner. We sat comfortably at the bar. The service was efficient and our servers were lovely. I ordered pancakes, two eggs, and bacon. There was nothing spectacular about my order or sensational about the flavors. The pancakes were pleasant and the bacon was cooked nicely and my eggs were finely scrambled. My beau had the fried egg sandwich. It was incredible!!! It ate half of it. His order came with house potatoes. They were pretty tasty. I would come here again for the ambience and friendly atmosphere. Bathroom is outside of the establishment. You have to take a key that is attached to a spatula to get to the bathroom. The bathroom was absolutely pristine!!! However, I had to put my hands back on the spatula and then put my hands on the bar to open the restaurant door. I had to run to my car to get my hand sanitizer!

Love this place! Top to bottom I like the whole menu. Everything is fresh and organic. My favorite part is they will sell out of popular items and specials. They only buy enough for today!

Cindy’s is my favorite diner! The food is Southern-influenced, with shrimp & grits and fried chicken sandwiches on the menu. All excellent. The cakes are also incredible! Service is really great every time, the nicest staff. Wait time can be really long on weekend breakfast/brunch time, so I generally avoid it then. Otherwise it’s a great diner to have in the area! Parking is super easy — lot out front or find parking around the neighborhood streets.

Cindy’s has to be one of the BEST restaurants in the LA area, PERIOD! I love the atmosphere, the décor, the typography in their signage, but most of all I LOVETHEIRFOOD! To start, freshness, fantastic dishes, like the Shrimp and Grits plate: AMAZING! Seriously, if you’ve never had shrimp and grits you haven’t lived, and the best one is at Cindy’s! The Blue Specials are fantastic, big portions and delicious, check out the Swedish Meatballs! And for desert? Incredible pies! I’ve been here about 20+ times and it is consistent, time after time. One word of advice: get the day’s special! They always amaze me with their simple but flavorful dishes, like the Spaghetti and Meatballs, it was Perfect Great food, great service and great place… Did I mention great parking? I HIGHLY recommend Cindy’s!

I love there breakfast. The food is great. There is a few food servers who I can live with out, but the food is worth it. Their is one certain waitress who makes it a great visit. Not sure her name but I am sure if you get her to serve you, you will always want to go back for her(short curly hair and glasses). She is the sweetest!

5 stars just for the amazing desserts. The Devil’s Food Cake is the best chocolate cake I’ve had in a long time. I usually get the Noah’s Ark breakfast when I come for dinner. But the chicken fried chicken is also amazing! This place is one of my favorite diners and the service is always good.

For the life of me I can’t understand how this place could have been 3.5 stars before on Unilocal because it’s the pinnacle of the dining scene in Eagle Rock, better than Little Beast or the Oinkster. I think some people just have the wrong conceptions of what the place is and isn’t. It isn’t a traditional cheap diner. It’s actually a slow food farm to table neighborhood gem of a place set in comfortable, casual, restored mid century modern Googie architecture with excellent service. More Sqirl and Forage than say Pie n Burger or House of Pies. The eggs Benedict was the best I have ever had — a lemony flavor explosion with deep rich undertones. On par if not better than the more well known brunch spots Square One or Home in Los Feliz. Attention to detail in every way when it comes to ingredients. Everything scratch made in house. The eggs are farm eggs with dark almost orange hues yolks. Potatoes taste like farmers market potatoes. The pies too are off the charts. From the first bite you can tell the whipped cream is made in house. Amazing — better than even House of Pies. We are going to be regulars here!

We love Cindy’s. Super kid friendly, some of the best service in LA and they serve Jones Coffee!!! Mushroom omelet breakfast is tops, BBQ burger with the candied jalapeño lunch is good, and the Fried Mushrooms over Corn Waffles for dinner is amazing. Open at 7am.

VEGGIE burgers! Ok, now don’t judge and stop reading just because I said veggie burgers! I was a fan of FireFly in South Pasadena where the owners of Cindys were the former owners of FireFly. Every Thursday they would have veggie burgers on the menu, from beet burgers, kale burgers, cauliflower burgers, etc. I would share a bite if these veggie burgers with carnivorous eating people and they were could not believe how good these burgers tasted(They came back and ordered it the next time) Imagine my surprise when I found that the former owners of Firefly have carried the same veggie burgers on their menu at Cindys Diner. These burgers are delicious! I had the cauliflower mushroom burger today and it was SOOOGOOD that I ordered another to go so that I could eat it for lunch tomorrow! My boyfriend had the shrimp and grits and they were cooked to perfection. He is from The South so he knows about grits and he said that the shrimp and grits were some of the best tasting grits that he has ever tasted. I tried some of his dish and I was also impressed. I am now a fan of Cindys and look forward to many more delicious veggie burgers. I encourage anyone to try it to see what I am talking about. Get it with the sweet potatoe fries.

The New Year’s southern comfort food destination took the high road down route 66 on the first of January 2016. Cindy’s coffee shop AKA diner/dive( ) has serviced the Eagle Rock community for nearly 70 years. The amount of traffic this place has seen really shows on its exterior and interior, but from the high decibel level inside, it’s the«go to» hangout for all kinds. The diversity of people who come here can be described as hipster-North Hollywood-Silverlake clientele; any of these descriptions are spot-on: Dreadlocks, ponytails, horn rimmed glasses, plaid, tattoos, black leather, lace, florals, greasy hair, guys wearing women’s jeans, man packs, trucker hats, Bieber pants, neighbors, and then there was us. Cindy’s offers 3 menus; breakfast from opening to noon; lunch from 11am to 10pm; dinner from 5pm to 10 pm. Luckily the lunch menu had Fried Chicken with the New Year’s Day required ingestion of black-eye peas. — Fried Chicken with black-eye peas, coleslaw & gravy [14.50]( ). The Fried Chicken was boneless breast meat that was well prepared and hit the spot for a substitute of chicken and waffles that I wanted but they didn’t have. The black-eye peas seemed to have fennel that gave it kind of a strange unexpected taste, but the slaw was good enough to balance the sides. — Belgian Waffle [7.75]( ) is offered all day, and it was superbly made. This was quite the highlight of the dishes. It was topped with the sweetest strawberry, again a great complement to the fried chicken. — Fried Catfish Po Boy with celery root remoulade, shaved fennel & tomato [12.50]( ) A sammie that could stand up to a good ol’ Georgia Po Boy. The portion was good and can satisfy anyone hungry enough. — A side of Brussel Sprouts [5.00]( ) was another highlight of the meal. Well worth the fiver. Parking is small but there are plenty of spots on the street. The wait was about 30 minutes for us on New Year’s Day, but again the clientele provided the entertainment to pass the time if you’re into people watching. The owner, Monique, was constantly keeping any eye on the clientele, and on top of her game to keep the plates moving. This was a great way to start off another year, usually I go for the BBQ, but good fried chicken was a great alternative this fine day.

My bf got food poisoning from the crab benedict when he went there on Drake’s birthday(coincidentally, not intentionally). My bathroom emanated the most awful stench my nose has ever smelled in my entire life that night. And this was last month… but I still remember it like it was yesterday. He spent like an hour on the toilet on the verge of shitting out his colon. IDK maybe this is TMI but I guess I’m never going back here anymore because I really enjoy being in control of my butt sphincter ;( R.I.P.

Old school restaurant since 1948. The place has been restored and the new owners get a thumbs up for attempting to keep this place as original looking as possible. I ordered the Grilled Mushroom omelet with caramelized onions and blue cheese, it was very unique and delicious.

Been here twice now, and each time has not disappointed. My first and second time eating here, I ordered the fried chicken plate which comes with a hefty sized fried chicken breast served with a side of black eyed peas and coleslaw. From the first bite to the very end, the dish was deeeelicious. Also tried the meatloaf which was great. It was served with a bbq gravy that looked more gravy than bbq, but was nonetheless delicious. Haven’t tried the desserts, but they’re made in-house by their pastry chef. They all look and sound delicious! The décor is very dineresque with a mid-century vibe. Staff is very friendly and the crowd can be a bit hipster.

I figured Cindy’s was going to be typical American diner fare, but what I got was a huge surprise. The wait for brunch on a Sunday morning was about 15 minutes. Service was pretty on point for being as busy as it was. I’m a little surprised as to why this place only has 3.5 stars. Our server checked on us often, refilling our coffee cups. I was having issues with my coffee. The first cup was a little syrupy, like it had been sitting around a while on the warmer. I downed it so I could get a cup(hopefully) from the new batch. However, the creamer curdled as soon as I poured it in. Our server noticed it right away and brought me a fresh cup. She apologized, but I know from my French press that it’s something that happens when coffee is acidic. The third pour was a pretty good cup of coffee! We ordered from the brunch menu, but the veggie burger of the day sounded intriguing– black bean/broccoli patty. I ended up getting the shrimp creole omelet because the boyfriend ordered my top pick– crab hash. I wanted to try their sweet potato biscuits with mushroom gravy, but they don’t do gravy on the weekends. The shrimp was diced up with grilled peppers and onions and tucked in nicely to the perfectly formed omelet. The flavors were subtle. No bother. I made it more creole-style by dashing Tabasco over the eggs. The potatoes on the side were awesome. There were some huge chunks of potato, but I was more interested in the crusty parts that were shared with caramelized onions. The boyfriend’s hash was pretty amazing.(Hate when he orders first) Diced potatoes and veggies with chunks of crabmeat peppered throughout. It was topped with a couple over easy eggs and a creamy hollandaise. I’m addicted to egg porn and the sight of him cutting into the perfectly cooked eggs, the runny yolks mixing with the hollandaise and seeping into his potatoes-gulp. That was all that I could stand, so I stabbed a forkful of that hash and it was to die for. The sweet potato biscuit was a little burnt on the bottom, which is actually the way I like my biscuits. The sweet potato flavor was there, but a house made jam would have sent that baby over the top. Or maybe the mushroom gravy! I will have to let you know the next time I go, during the week.

In case you were wondering, this is not a greasy spoon diner. It’s more like a gastro-pub version of a diner. That said, it’s good and the prices aren’t crazy. The menu is different T-F than Sat and Sun(some items are changed out and the prices increase by 10−20%). Saturday morning at 9AM, full, but no wait. Easy parking. Wife got brisket hash and I got the shrimp omelet. Both were good. Servings are much larger than I would have expected. Coffee was better than normal diner coffee. I’d come back, but probably not on a weekend. For people who keep track, they are«have crayons» level of kid friendly.

Unexpected. I have spent 25+ years going past this diner in a quiet pocket of Eagle Rock and only went in for the first time last week. Seems like new ownership, so I wouldn’t know what it was like before. The inside is bright and colorful, like a modern-retro twist on the 1950s diner. The place was also full(only one table available) at 10am on a Thursday. Food is trendy. Brisket hash, fluffy pancakes, and a mix of standard diner fare. Good stuff and delicious. The coffee is meh — get your cappuccino at Swork down the street. Staff were very friendly, to the point of rushing to help me find the way to the bathroom(which is outside btw). Appreciated, but not necessary :) One downside: Breakfast only served until 11am.

Love, love, love the food. Service is also very kind and excellent. If you want to eat like you’re in Atlanta, this is the place. Went for brunch, but ended up having lunch instead cause everything sounded so good. And it was. Lady had the eggs benedict with their awesome breakfast potatoes. She liked it. I ordered the cheeseburger for my 6 year old and this was the only bust. The burger was good, but they put it on a whole wheat bun. Kid’s meal should have a regular bun. Kids don’t eat things that look weird to them, and a dark brown roll put my picky son right off. I had the BLT, which is the best I ever had. They will add avocado(I didn’t want it), but it has roasted red peppers inside that totally raise the BLT to a new level. The taste is amazing. The peppers add so much to what is normally a basic sandwich. They also allowed me to swap the side salad for breakfast potatoes. To try and finish later, I also ordered their fried chicken with gravy. It comes with black eyed peas and coleslaw. The chick and gravy are excellent. And the sides were delicious, too. Oh, and I started with a cup of their chicken gumbo. Probably the best gumbo I’ve EVER had. I want to come back and try breakfast, as well as other lunch/dinner items.

The change in Cindy’s is night and day under new ownership. I remember before ordering weird pancakes with a Thai Iced Tea. HUH?! Being a NJ native, I was devastated that the cool looking diner near my house was terrible. Not anymore, friends! One morning after picking my husband up at the airport, we decided to give new Cindy’s a try. We both ordered the breakfast burrito — his with chorizo, mine with soyrizo. My goodness, it was PERFECT. It comes with a side of black beans and a fantastic salsa. My only suggestion is to make the side of salsa bigger, because we both used ours up before finishing the burrito. We’ve since been back a few times, but only for breakfast. The service is always friendly, and the food is always great. Don’t forget to try a side of the house potatoes! We love that there are so many different options, for meat eaters and vegetarians alike! It’s a big deal. We look forward to coming in for dinner one night soon. It’s nice to drive by now in the evening and see all of the lights on with lots of life inside!
