I come here often, probably at least 2 to 3 times a month on average. Personally, I think they have the best chicken tikka masala anywhere. I’ve been to a ton of Indian restaurants, as it is my favorite kind of food, and although there are many things you can get at nice restaurants that are not served at Chutney’s, I love a good bowl of tikka masala, small cup of lentils, and some great naan bread, all for under $ 10. Now tell me where else can you get good Indian food for less than 10 bucks. Plus you know it’s been stewing all day and it’s so damn good and tender. Regarding the service, yeah maybe it’s not what you’re expecting — but I think folks on here should give the guy a break, he’s from a completely different country and culture, so his method of communicating is not what you expect, and may come across as disinterested or rude if you didn’t know better. He’s actually a really nice guy and he knows who I am, he knows what I want, he make suggestions if I asked for them, etc. What else do you need, seriously? At least he’s real and consistent.

Being pregnant, I’m trying to expose my baby to different flavors hoping to raise a future foodie/Yelp critic. As tempted as I was to order the chicken which I know I like here I decided to go with a chicken curry and samosas(which I always love) the saag is pretty spicy– maybe being pregnant has made me a wimp. So I eased into the chicken tikka masala hoping to avoid pregnancy heartburn. Chicken tikka masala– was good but not the flavor I am used to. I didn’t like it at first but as I ate more of it, it really grew on me. Samosas– I love samosas. I have been a little spoiled and eat homemade samosas and again I’m used to a certain spice level and these ones were very mild. Still it’s fried bread and meat or potatoes. Just different then I expected. Naan– their naan was delicious! Warm, fresh baked yumminess. Reita– I love yogurt and this yogurt has cucumbers and onions and other veggies. When I order a spicy dish such as the saag, the yogurt helps calm the dish down. With tonight’s meal it was just a nice side. Salad– was too oniony, and I love onions. Overall I’m torn between a 3 or 4 stars. Giving it 4 because service was good and my baby seemed to be doing a happy dance in my belly when this meal was done.

Wow! I was really impressed by this place. I love Indian food, but you never know what you’re going to get when you try a new place. I tried the lamb vindaloo, chicken tikki, lamb kebab and saag paneer. The dinner plates came with rice, salad and naan, and were very reasonably priced, and delicious. The mint chutney was spicy, like I like, and none of their dishes had that nasty, sweet, generic flavor that I’ve run into so many times. The woman at the front counter was wonderful and very helpful. I will be back for sure. I got takeout, but there are tables there, and there were actual Indian people eating there, which says a lot.

Ok, so to date this is the WORST in my experience. Terrible Food joint. LA sanitation should inspect and shut it down. The taste, Quantity vs the price, the hygiene, the trays, etc, etc. all and all the number one rip of joint for Indian food. There is unlimited buffet for $ 8.95 at almost every other Indian restaurant in LA. Not even an homeless should eat here.

Soooo my chicken tikka masala looked the way it was supposed to– but it tasted like Italian spaghetti sauce. I had been looking forward to Indian food all day and was greatly disappointed. If you’ve had Indian food basically anywhere else, you will agree that this is not Indian food. 1 star earned is for friendly staff and large portions.

This little place is great! The food is of course, spot on. Also, the service is great, very efficient — they never get my order wrong(when I call it in). They are super friendly. The half chicken and lamb curry is my favorite! Best samosas I have ever had!

First, I want to say thanks to Arali the cashier that was working when I came. She’s a very sweet girl that I noticed was attending each customer right away with a smile. I saw they had a lunch special posted on their window and it looked good. I walked in and saw their huge menu. I wasn’t sure if to get the special or to get something else. Well, I decided to give the half chicken special a try. When it was my turn to order I noticed in front of the cash register there was a sign that stated there was a minimum purchase of $ 10 to use a credit card. The lunch special with tax was about $ 8. I asked her if I needed to order something else or if I could use my card. She said not to worry about it. She gave me my cup and my receipt. While I was waiting for my food I decided to grab some salsas from their salsa bar. They only have three salsas, but they are very different from each other. There was green, red, and a white salsa. For some reason I thought I was going to enjoy the red one the most so I took two. My order was ready in about 5 minutes. I noticed they had napkins and forks on the counter next to the register so I checked if I had some in my bag. I just saw some naan(pitas) on top so I got a fork and some napkins. The straws and soda lids are also with the forks and napkins not near the soda machine. When I opened the to go food container the food look delicious. The chicken smelled so good. I took a bite and it was so good. It had a side salad which was just some onion and lettuce. It also came with a side of corn mixed with carrot. I loved the corn and the chicken. I didn’t like the salad too much, but it wasn’t bad. I tried the chicken with a bit of each salsa. My favorite one was the white one and I though that was the one I wasn’t going to like. The one I didn’t like was the red one. I thought it was going to be spicy and it was rather sweet. I tried it twice and didn’t like it. The green one was good too. Parking here is a hassle sometimes. There is a subway and a Mexican place that share a small parking lot. There are about 10 spaces and they are usually occupied. There is also meter parking on the street. I give them 4 stars for the great customer service. They were friendly, fast and efficient. The food was also really really good. I will be back soon.

Nihari and Chicken Karahi were excellent. Samosas were a 3⁄5. The naan bread was soft and fluffy and tasted great, only minus point was that the cheese naan wasn’t very cheesy. Was sad to find out the chicken biryani is only available Friday and Saturday. I am a fan and liked the food overall and will likely visit again!

Most horrible customer service ever. Bald headed Indian guy(most probably the owner) is a dickhead. Food is old and reheated.

Do you have those restaurants in your life that hold a special place in your memory and heart? Where when you think of it, it’s not just the food that brings a smile to your face? Chutneys is that place for me. Having lived just down the street from this place throughout a good part of my 20s, Chutneys was always the go-to place after a long day at work on a weeknight, a pleasant place to drop in for the great lunch prices when I found myself working from home, or a perfect spot to get that off-menu Biryani that had been cooking all day and was only available on weekends. The crew at Chutneys are an outstanding bunch. Always friendly and generous, you can tell they take pride in doing what they do in the most low-key manner. Their grilled chicken, raita, and naan are all you need in life. The restaurant is small so seating is limited, but like with any great restaurant hangout that serves a special place in your heart, it’s never stressful or crowded. It’s just the type of place you can find yourself sitting down and enjoying a great meal.

Pretty good lunch specials here. The tandori chicken is pretty juicy. This place gets a huge lunch rush but the turnover time is pretty quick.

LA’s hidden gem best grilled chicken I had in a long time. Prices are surprisingly very reasonable!

Wow talk about terrible service!!! The guy was so preoccupied with the tv that he completely screwed up my order– which I had to give him about 4x. Then I found out later that he had charged my card twice. And the food is awful! Ugh. Never ever going there again!!!

It was my first time here and I have got to say, I was not a fan of the food. I read the Unilocal reviews on this place and thought it might be a good place to go especially knowing that it was halal. The food did not taste like Indian or even Pakistani food. I felt that it was artificial Desi food. I’m a desi, so I know what I’m talking about. I guess this food is what you get when it is called fast food lol. We have the chicken tikkah masalah which was very watered down. It almost seemed to be a soup. We also ordered the tandoori chicken and seikh kabobs and we expected our meat platters to have more meat, but we had kid portions. I think there were more sides than the small amount of meat. I felt a little cheated with the food. Also my sweet lassi was warm. It’s a yogurt drink so it should be warmer. My husband had the mango lassi and it was a nice cool temper. The reason for the 2 stars was because the lady seemed nice, but if you ask me I would go to a real Paki/Indian restaurant. My craving for Indian food was not satisfied. Hard to find parking in case you were wondering

Three stars for their awesome tandoori chicekn. I was not happy on my first visit! I tried their tandoori chicken, it was tasteless however I was able to give a litte bit of flavor with the help of some hot sauce lol! The chicken was clean and well cooked compared to other places. The second time I went there just to give it another try, I ordered the same half tandoori chicken plate and asked them to make it extra spicy which came out to be PERFECT! If you love spicy tandoori chicken ask them to make it extra spicy or spicy! It might take additional 20 mintues for them to prepare but it is totally worth it. Lack of customer service and make sure you check your reciept twice before you leave, i always get charged different price even though i order the same food every single time!

Smallest. Portions. Ever. I wasn’t aware I had ordered off the kids’ menu. Oh wait, there isn’t a kids menu. Seriously, I’m sitting here having finished a two item«combo» and am on my wait out the door to get a second dinner. I love Indian food. Honestly… I am *down* with brown. Curry. I am down. Hanging out in Cerritos. I am down. Bhangra screwing in lightbulb dance. I am down. But this here sitch would make Aishwarya Rai cry a river that would flood the Ganges. First off, the combo is listed as «$ 8.99 + 1.25» which is just ambiguous and weird. The extra $ 1.25 is for the sauce(masala, curry etc), meaning the combo plate by default comes with meat without any sauce which is sort of like going to an Italian restaurant, ordering spaghetti and finding out marinara costs extra. Huh-what? So at 11 bucks and change(and making me pay for the sauce), I expect the portions to be decent. I got maybe 3 – 4 small pieces of chicken tikka and the dahi chicken(item #2 of my ‘combo’) consisted of a small thigh and the tiniest drumstick known to man. This drumstick might as well have come off a chick because it was that small. Sorry, lemme take a typing break… I’m getting lightheaded from not having eaten enough. The ‘salad’ consisted of whole LOT of onions, even MORE shredded carrots(about 80% of the salad), some corn, and a couple shreds of lettuce thrown in for spite. You’ll probably notice that the walls of the establishment are full of the black and white headshots of no name, «who the EFF is that?» actors, and entertainment personalities, which is really apropos and reflective of the food served here… pedestrian, lackluster, and undistinguished from the rest.

This was the worst Indian food I have ever had. I am so disappointed and unsatisfied. I ordered chicken tikka masala which came with rice and naan. Every part of it was bad. Th naan was flavorless and doughy. The rice was just regular white rice(not basmati). The chicken was just terrible. The sauce wasn’t thick at all and didn’t have any of the Indian spices you would expect in Indian food. If I didn’t know and someone put this dish in front of me I would assume it was Mexican food. I will never return to this place and good luck to anyone who tries it

I used to come to chutneys regularly for the Nihari, which I must add is amazing. However, the rest of the entrees lack traditional flavor. For example, the chicken special is extremely bland. Nonetheless I would have continued stopping by for the tasty Nihari, and tandoori naan BUT the owner was extremely rude. His lack of professionalism and rude behavior towards me when I simply asked clarifying questions led me to never return. I hope other customers have a better experience with the owner and his behavior. Here’s to the emphasis of respect, and customer service for any small business.
