I’m still wrapping my head around the food truck phenomenon. After having tried several, including some of the bigger ones like the Grilled Cheese Truck, I simply wasn’t impressed. Until I stumbled upon Chef Brian’s Comfort Truck. It’s ridiculous. I find myself thinking about the chicken sliders whenever I see a tweet that they’e nearby. Great for my tastbuds, terrible for my waistline. But tastebuds win that battle nearly every time. Today, I finally tried the«crack chips». Yup. They might be made with crack. Amazingly tasty. But man, those fried chicken sliders are perfection. Just a great piece of fried chicken. The spicy sauce? Phew. I love the Comfort Truck. I WILL be back, whenever I get a craving.

I can’t believe I’ve only been able to eat at the Comfort Truck once. Please come back to he South Bay again!!! This had been on my food truck checklist for awhile and it finally came to the South Bay. I was pretty pumped to try it and I almost missed it because I was stuck at work. So glad I didn’t. The Golden Fried Chicken Sliders were excellent. The texture of the crispies was fantastic, the chicken was tender and the flavor was well-balanced. And, of course, being the garlic freak I am, the roasted garlic aioli just made this a perfect dish. I could’ve eaten another order. I also got the Crack Chips. Yup, there were very good. Great texture. A bit on the salty side for my taste but hard to complain. I was about the last customer and I ended up talking to Chef Brian for awhile. I can’t say I know him from Top Chef but he came off as a cool guy who just loved to cook. I’m looking forward to round two.

Is there negative star ratings? This was nowhere close to bringing me any comfort. This truck is a complete fail. The slaw… I could have opened my own can of corn and thrown in some briny cranberries… whack. the crack chips. reminds me of a Mexican Bunuelo with the addition of seasoned salt… lame… Mary J. must have referenced it as «crack«chip not for it’s highly addictive qualities but for it’s negative ones. «Crack» kills. I skipped the mess of the chicken wrap and ate my own pre-home made lunch instead. I ordered the beef jerk wrap but was told it was not available as it had to have been requested before the truck headed out for the day. Cheap. This left me with the chicken«wrap» as the alternate choice. I ordered it, looked at it, poked it, unwrapped it… skipped it. Ok, so what’s the difference between a KFC wrap and this fried chicken burrito? ohh yeah. can someone please explain to Chef Brian what lavash is? There is a difference between a flour tortilla and lavash bread… this place was a total and complete dissapointment. Just another sub-mediocre roach coach cashing in the bad food bandwagon… 3.2…1…fail.

I have given up on the thought that KFC will bring back their Chicken Little. So atleast now i can satisfy my mini chicken sammie cravings with the Comfort Truck! As Ciara G said, i too was pleasantly surprised. After having tried some chicken sliders off a truck before, i wasn’t expecting much(heck, i loved my chicken littles). The hawaiian bun was great, as they always are, and the chicken was PERFECTLYFRIED!!! Chef Brian does his fried chicken right– the skin is super crispy and fried evenly, yet the chicken meat is still super moist! I got mine plain which comes with a nice gravy. You can get yours with bbq or spicy also. I also got the CrackChips(coined by Mary J herself!) and i enjoyed these fried chips alot, except for the fact that they were 2 bucks and there’s only like 5 chips in the order. I would love it if they either make it $ 1.00 or give you alot more chips. The corn relish with cranberry and pineapple was ok– i wouldn’t order it again, unless i was craving a shitload of corn. GETTHEFRIEDCHICKENSLIDERS!

I was surprisingly pleasantly surprised with my sliders and am feeling generous as I have missed my food trucks since I was up north for over a week. So Comfort Truck today is your lucky day! I’m going with the Yay I’m a Fan! Michelle T, Dude Tony, Ken C and I made the drive and met up in Ontario for MDC1st bday celebration. There was a DJ, magician, free cupcakes and Chef Brian’s Comfort Truck. Not knowing anything about this truck, I did a quick Unilocal browse and saw that the Obi Wan of Food Trucks Bill C. gave them 4 stars along with my adopted dad Rodney H. 4 stars from each of them and I knew my eats should be good. I was bummed to say the least that they were not offering their Mac & Cheese. From the pics posted it look ooey gooey cheesy yummy. Not sure what their regular menu is like but the menu offered seemed really small(4 «standard» items and 2 specials). I went for the Fried Chicken Sliders(2 for $ 5) and got them jazzed up with the sauce choices(BBQ and Spicy wing sauce type) for an additional $ 1 Served on the ever so popular choice for a food truck bun aka King’s Hawaiian Roll, the sliders were simple. Bun, breaded chicken, in my case sauce and a spicy pepper. Chicken was crispy on the outside and super juicy on the inside. Can’t go wrong with a Hawaiian roll and I enjoyed both the BBQ and Spicy Sauce and the crunch from the cool crisp spicy pepper. Michelle, Tony and I all came to the conclusion that we enjoyed the surprisingly yummy eats and although we would not drive far and wide to seek them out we would definitely stop for a slider if they were around.

The comfort truck attended an event in Ontario and it was cool talking to Chef Brian as he was setting up. I had the pleasure of trying his fried chicken sliders(3.5 stars) and his crack chips(2 stars) with his corn relish(2 stars). His fried chicken sliders are delicious. The chicken was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. It was juicy, but it was breaded with a tasty mix of herbs and spices. The sliders are simple — he doesn’t try to add extraneous ingredients to impress you. It’s just chicken and mayo on a king’s hawaiian roll. Great choice of bread! It’s undeniably a good slider, but the drawback is that it isn’t really cheap(you get 2 for $ 5) and what you get is a very small portion. I also tried their crack chips. These were very deeply fried tortilla chips that were liberally sprinkled with spices and sea salt. In all honesty, these weren’t good and, for $ 2, he gives you 5 big chips. For an additional two dollars more, you can get a corn relish. Unfortunately, this relish wasn’t that impressive to me either. The corn salsa at Chipotle is complimentary and it’s better and fresher than what they offer in this truck. I think that these chips didn’t do it for me because I just had chips at «cha cha cha» in LA that was prepared similarly, but more effectively. I’m sorry Chef Brian… I wasn’t impressed by the quantity or quality of these chips. Now…I enjoyed the slider and I’d be willing to try this truck again. What I would love to see from the truck are more items, interesting and memorable side dishes(like LudoTruck’s lavender biscuits), and comforting desserts to go with the fried stuff. My biggest criticism with this truck is that comfort food, by definition, are familiar dishes that satisfy us by fulfilling our cravings. Chef Brian attempts this by giving us great fried chicken and by offering hearty items like stew, but he forgets to give us portions that satiate us. What I’d really like to see from him is a combo plate that gives us a full and balanced meal to quench our appetites and comfort our soul. Right now, he fails to accomplish that.

Not impressed. I’ve definitely had better. Was walking to a nearby deli to pick up a sandwich, and saw this truck parked on my way. There was no line or anyone else waiting for food, and seeming like a neat, trendy little truck, I thought I’d give it a try. At the time I tried it, they had chips, chips with some kind of salsa, a fried chicken wrap and 2 kinds of sliders on the menu. Simple enough of a selection, I went with a mix & match of the 2 sliders for 6 bucks. As I had mentioned before, there was no one patronizing the truck. Chef Brian was talking with some dude that drove up in a limo(as in, the driver of the limo) about plans for the evening. I mention all this because I waited a lot longer than I would really have expected for what I eventually saw was 2 bites of food. Now, I’m not one to complain about wait time — I’m a pretty patient customer. The problem was that the longer than expected wait coupled with the scarcity of food didn’t really add up to me. I couldn’t imagine how long I’d be waiting around if there were, say ONE more customer around. The sliders themselves were absolutely unimpressive. One had deep fried chicken, which was better than what I think they called a Hawaiian beef slider, which was just an over salted coin of burger on a patch of Hawaiian bread. In fact, I think the chicken was on the same Hawaiian bread, and had a dot of mayo and a slice of a peperoncini to go with it. Yes, the chicken was tender and fried to a nice crispiness, but in the end was one better than average bite out of an overall pedestrian experience. Speaking of pedestrian, I kept walking and picked up that sandwich.

This was an intense experience to say the least. I felt no ‘comfort’ while partaking of the Comfort Truck. The line was long and moved slowly. Oh well, it happens and I understand that if I was in a restaurant I would still wait for my food. When I finally made it up front I was getting super excited to try the mac and cheese and their famed crack chips. Well, they weren’t serving their mac and cheese for another 15 minutes. This seems like a rather foolish business move. Why would you arrive at a food truck festival and not offer one of your most popular dishes for a whole hour after the festival starts. Many people, including myself, were disappointed by this. If the delay had to do with preparation, the Comfort Truck should have started setting up sooner. So I ordered the chicken sliders and the crack chips. The sliders were okay. I liked that they were served on Hawaiian Buns but there wasn’t much else that really sucked me in. The relish that comes with the crack chips is also pretty good. But in all honestly it’s also very basic. You can’t really mess up corn and tomatoes. The chips themselves just seemed like puffy wontons. They tasted fine but they weren’t nearly as addictive as crack(not that I would know). The worst part about the whole experience was Brian’s attitude. He was mad that the truck wasn’t working very efficiently(most people were mad about this). But instead of taking a few breaths and trying to work out the kinks he just flipped out. He was yelling at his employees and worse, he was yelling at his customers. He was angry and rude. It was not a pleasant experience. Hands down the Comfort Truck was one of my most disappointing truck experiences. I see little reason to try this truck again.

«Dad why didn’t you get more?» «Where is my spoon for the Mac and Cheese» Once again these are the initial comments from my 10 year old daughter who is my sous chef, budding food truck groupie and future Unilocaler of all things edible after trying the Comfort Truck earlier today. Decide to pull up RoadStoves and this first truck that pops up is Comfort Truck and they are in Santa Clarita so my lunch plans are set. We arrived shortly after 11 and they said they wouldn’t be ready for another 30 minutes so ran a few errands before arriving back just after 12. Started with the«Crack Chips» out of curiosity but found the fried tortilla chips to be just too greasy. Of course I ate them all and probably would have eaten more. The sliders were perfectly tender and the softness of the roll only added to their goodness. Did pay the extra $ 1 for the sliders to be BBQ but don’t know how much extra that really added to the flavors. The Mac and Cheese was with just the right amount of cheese which made the creaminess oh so addicting. My only complaint was the drink choices. Dude…$ 2 for a CAN of Grape Shasta?!? I can order a CASE on Amazon for $ 15.89 with free shipping. This is where a Mexican Coke or Pepsi probably would have given you an extra star. Chef Brian was super friendly and a really great guy to talk to. I’ll certainly be back as today seemed to be a «limited» menu and would like to try their other offerings.

I’ve seen Chef Brian on TV awhile back so I have been waiting to try the Comfort truck, hoping they would come out here to the Valley. Got the tweet and decided to try the Fried Chicken Sliders. You get two pretty decent sized sliders for only $ 4 so it was a good deal. Split an order with my co-worker. He liked it a lot too. The batter was cooked perfectly. Nice and crispy but not too heavy. It was really nice taste with the Garlic Aoli. Also, Chef Brian and the rest of the staff were super friendly. The food was ready fast since I got there early and there was not a line yet. I will definitely go back there again. There are other items I still want to try.

A quiet Sunday in the valley. I check truxmap and see there is only 1 food truck out on this side of the hill. Chef Brian has set up in the parking lot of some church in Woodland Hills. I peruse the menu, decide that a Garlic Beef Wrap sounds good, so off I drive to Woodland Hills. And they were out of the Garlic Beef Wraps. I did get to order the«Crack Chips» which were golden fried tortillas. I found them delicious but a little too greasy. Instead of the wrap, I went with the Beef Sliders. Today they weren’t offering the jerk beef that others have written about. Instead they had«Hawaiian Beef Sliders». These were small of course, but they were also thick. The menu says the beef patties were made with crushed pineapple, exotic seasonings and topped with a garlic aioli. These were two pretty good burgers, but to be honest the garlic overwhelmed any trace of pineapple. The burger had a slightly sweet flavor, but I couldn’t pin down any specific ingredients. After about 2 bites, I quit trying to analyze it and just enjoyed it for what it was. And yes I enjoyed it. The chips were 2 bucks and the order of sliders was 4. I paid $ 1.00 to get a couple of postage stamps of jack cheese, which may have worked against me by neutralizing the other flavors. Now I know Chef Brian is on a TV show, and that show is based in Beverly Hills, but c’mon dude, $ 2.00 for a can of Diet Coke or worse yet Shasta!!! I can get them for about 25 cents a can at Costco. You probably even get them for less than that. «Gourmet Food Truck #5 on my never-ending quest to try every truck in So Cal»

here we are HUNGRY on abbot kinney, with tons of trucks around, we had never heard of Comfort truck and decided to give it a whirl! they already had their most popular items sold out at around 9:30 so we opted for the chicken tenders 5 for 5 bucks and scored the LAST order of the night The truck claims to have marinated the chicken all night, but the taste was very lacking. i mean its really nothing special. just chicken tenders if you ask me. and it comes with either of two sauces. BBQ and another. but i forgot what it was because even though we asked for both they only gave us the bbq one. the staff is really nice and all! but with boasting about being on TOPCHEF and CHEFS of beverly hills, i guess i expected more

Chef Brian and team were fun to chat with and so friendly, but unfortunately that was the high point. Chef Brian greeted us as we approached the truck with a great smile and a hearty welcome. We had a chance to chat a bit which is a rarity on the fast and furious ‘truck’ circuit. We tried the«crack» chips, the chicken sliders and the jerk beef sliders. Lets start with the so called«crack’ chips. Quoting my good friend Whitney, if that is crack«then crack is whack!» Way too greasy and the flavor was practically nonexistent. The sliders were good not great. The chicken was the better of the two. It was a nice crispy piece of chicken with a super garlicky aioli sauce. The bun was light and warm, nice quality. The jerk beef slider was missing that explosion of jerk flavor that jerk is known for. Needs to be turned up a few notches. Prices were reasonable, and the team was amazing, but the food needs a couple of tweaks to get them into the 4 star range.

I’m very torn here. Here’s what I like: –A truck in Woodland Hills? On a Sunday? Yes, please! –Chef Brian was out of the truck, saying hello, talking, and being super friendly. Having a decent conversation with the chef isn’t all that common; he’s also a fan of coming to the Valley more. –Nikki, at «Nikki’s Window» was also really nice and worked with us with our to go order. –The chicken in the slider had a nice flavor, and this is without the Garlic Aioli. What I was more ‘meh’ about: –The so-called crack chips were not impressive. They were too greasy and low on the flavor. I’m thinking that we were some of the first people of the day, so maybe the oil wasn’t hot enough? I imagine that when super hot and fresh, the chips would be awesome. But, they weren’t awesome today. –The jerk beef slider was lacking in flavor. Maybe it needs more spice or some jerk sauce. I realize Chef Brian is cooking for the masses, but if you’re gonna advertise jerk, then jerk it up! I didn’t taste allspice, or scallions, or scotch bonnets, or any of the flavors I was looking for. –The interesting«church-in-a-business-area» location of the truck. We got to the truck as church was starting. Parking was insane! We were given a «welcome» pamphlet about the church. The cover had the pastor and his wife on it; maybe I’ve just been watching too much True Blood, but the couple totally reminded me of Steve and Sarah Newlin of the Fellowship of the Sun. Jim G. and I shared a laugh! =) In sum, I love Chef Brian but I’m not in love with his food. However, so many people do that perhaps it was just an off day. Cash Only!

Can I please have one of everything on the menu, the sequel That’s right, I did it again. Two times in one day I conquered an entire menu. Comfort Truck Employee–«What can I get for you today?» Me–«Hi, can I please have one of everything on the menu» CTE–«You sure can» Me–«Thanks» Right after I took down the entire menu at The Buttermilk Truck, I skipped over to Chef Brian’s Comfort Truck and took down their entire menu, too. I did not know much about this truck before I ate here the other day at the food truck event in Glendale. All I knew was that Chef Brian, who is on the show«Private Chefs of Beverly Hills», which is on the Food Network, is the mastermind behind this truck. In fact, he was the one preparing the grub in the truck at the event. The Comfort Truck only had three items on their menu that day, so it was not hard to take down their whole menu. This is the three items I ordered Chef Brian’s Golden Fried«Crack» Tortilla Chips– Big, homemade tortilla chips with some kind of addictive spicy seasoning sprinkled all over them Comfy Jerk Beef Wrap– Jerk seasoned ground beef, marinated, sauteed and wrapped in Lavash Bread, with grilled onions, tomatoes, bell peppers and cilantro sour cream. Golden Fried Chicken Wingettes — Jumbo wingettes marinated for 24 hours, and then deep fried until golden brown. Both the wings and the wrap were phenomenal. The chicken tenders were big, juicy and extremely flavorful. These may have been some of the best chicken tenders I have ever tasted. The wrap was also exploding with flavor. The crack chips were just OK. They had a good flavor but without any salsa to dip them in, they became difficult to enjoy. The prices at this truck were not bad. For all three items it cost about $ 17 dollars. The only beef I had with this truck was the wait to get our food. Once my order was placed, it took almost fifteen minutes to get my food, which was way too long. I Really hope I run into this truck again someday because if you look on their website, they change their menu often and I would not mind trying some of their other delicious sounding food. If I do happen to run into this truck a second time, I’m sure I will order the whole menu again. PS– I’m not done yet. I still ate at two other food trucks this day. I know, I’m an animal :)

In the world of «Truck Wars» now a days, Chef Brian’s Comfort Truck stands out on the top. Today, us 3 were introduced to Chef Brain’s Truck. This Ain’t No Roach Coach… Treats on wheels, V12 Chevy modified super charged bio-diesel-fueled engine, bumper to bumper colorful colors of Paradise , Let’s talk about food… Go for, his six chicken sliders, his jerk beef slider, his chicken and beef wraps — and his golden fried chicken wingettes and finally The«Crack Chips.» I love LA…

Someone give this truck the prize for shooting fish in a barrel. I spotted the Comfort Truck outside of the KFC+ in Palms, which if you remember the South Park episode about pot and fried chicken, is an old converted KFC medical marijuana dispensary. Now that’s just too easy, isn’t it? And even though I was on my way to get Honey Kettle Chicken I felt the need to stop here and pick up a little quick bite before I picked up dinner. The verdict? Pretty decent. If Unilocal had a half star rating, this would have probably been a 3.5 at most, but I rounded up to a 4 because Chef Brian was actually pretty cool and there was no line. The food. A whole variety of chicken and jerk beef minit burgers. I opted for the slider mix match. One chicken and one Jerk beef. How were they? The chicken had a spicy kick to it even though I went with the non-spicy version. But that was due to the peppeonicini in it. The burger had a sweet kick to it as it had pineapple in it. They were pretty tasty for sliders, but I think $ 5 for two sliders may be a bit much. You’re pretty much getting half a burger at that point. Bang for the buck wise out of a truck seems off. But it was the wrap that had me really confused. I don’t get the wrap. It was a burger patty in a sweet sort of santa fe corn sauce/salsa mixture. I wouldn’t have much of a problem with it if it was just ground beef in there as it would make a good combo, but it was mostly tortilla and the corn sauce/salsa for the majority of the bites. If it was just ground beef and call it a damn burrito and you got yourself a better meal. So the two items for $ 9… wait. I just realized that they charged me $ 1 more for cheese on my burgers and I didn’t even get it! Oh man, yeah. I felt conflicted for my 3.5 vote before but now I’m strong on it. Oh Unilocal, when are you going to go with the .50 rating. I want to give this place a 3.5 star Would I try them again… hmm, tough call. I guess it was worth it to try it once, but frankly I think the food network show Chef Brian is on is the most bourgeois stuff on TV. So no, probably wouldn’t go back. There’s better trucks with better food and unless this place mixes it up some more, I see no reason to go back.

I have a little game these days, to see how many of the trendy food trucks I can just«bump» into by chance. I have only went out of my way when I had a friend from out of town visit a month ago, but for the most part, it is SOMUCHMORE exciting to just happen upon one! As I seriously rub my belly and start to digest the goodness, which was my lunch from the Comfort Truck, I slowly type my review… Chef Brian and his partner in crime(family? staff? not sure) were ready to please as they parked outside Kaiser on Sunset. I left the office late to find a bite to eat, and just finished reading the reviews on this truck as I read my Unilocal newletter«Sir Trucks A Lot». Divine timing? I think so! Ordered the lunch special: Fried chicken on spinach salad, with sauteed onions and a balsamic or red wine dressing. 5 bucks. Not too shabby! Fried chicken was breast meat with a light batter. As for as comfort food goes, some purists would say the batter may be lacking and might be used to something more salty. However, this is perfect for those wanting something less heavy. I know I would have loved the sliders, but I wanted some veggies. Crack chips: Fried flour tortillas with seasoned salt… If you like pita chips and Bunuelos(cinnamon and sugar flour chips) this may be your thing. They are addictive but greasy! Bean/corn«salsa» type thing… I would pass on this next time. More corn than anything, and kinda bland. I added hot sauce to it and it made it better. I would prefer more beans, tomatoes and cilantro. Maybe even add some onions(if they did, I couldn’t tell) and for me, add chopped jalapeño with a tad of vinegar to kick it up. If you order this, think of it as a corn side dish instead of a dip. I also agree with Dennis C about the sides to give it that true Comfort food feel. I hope they stay around and visit my work again!

Tried this out today, it’s good and filling… definitely not for those counting calories. I ordered the fried chicken combo, which comes with a side of «Crack Chips» which is fresh fried flour tortillas and a soda. I also ordered some mac & cheese because I hate myself and wish for a slow fattening death.(total for all items $ 9). I’d say this is definitely a step up from that other comfort food truck out there that has fried chicken and mac & cheese. The verdict is still out for me though, as I’d like to try their sliders and other menu items. I also hope they toss in some dessert options eventually. As a whole, I’d say it’s tasty, and value-wise, very good… it’s definitely worth a try if it’s near you.

Like a beam of light, I saw this truck randomly parked a block from my work in Studio City. No, literally, the sun was so bright, there was a beam of light on the truck. I forgot my sunglasses too. The minute I saw«Comfort» in the truck name and the fact that a damn food truck finally made it over the hill into the Valley(holy mother of!!), I made my coworker STOP his car and let me out. He did oblige, dangerously to let me check it out. I LOVE comfort foods! Unfortunately, I already committed to stupid lunch plans with my coworkers so I had to get back in the car after checking it out for a minute, with plans to come back later. Also because some loud homeless man kept harassing me by the truck to «help Louie out». I don’t know what that means. I think«Louie» was his shopping cart. Anyway, my stupid lunch with coworkers did give me time to do some research on the truck with my handy dandy iPhone. Apparently, it’s Brian Hill’s(Top Chef Season 1/Private chef to Mary J. Blige, Eddie Murphy and P. Diddy) creation. Nice. So cut to: After coworkers blab off during lunch, I FINALLY come back to the truck. When ordering, I just went down the line and got the first three things at the top of the menu that sounded appealing to me, which included the«Crack» chips, the Golden Fried Chicken Slider, and the BBQ Chicken Slider. FRIED? What? Aw, hell yeah. Preeeeetty good if I say so myself. The chips are probably the best tortilla chips EVER. And the best things on the truck thus far(as in this one time that I’ve gone). They’re huge, thick and seasoned so nicely. With what? Don’t know, but dayam! A little greasy, but that’s what makes them gooood. They kinda taste like fried wontons/fried tortilla chips. My sliders were all on King’s Hawaiian-style bread(that should give you an idea of their size), which seems to be the craze nowadays. The BBQ sauce on the BBQ Chicken Slider was pretty good – sweet, tangy, nice. The Golden Fried chicken was also good. They use some nice juicy chicken breasts. Gander at my photos for a picture of the menu and the ingredients in each slider. For the Golden Fried Slider, they could have slathered the bread with a little more of that garlic aioli because I couldn’t taste it(or really see much of it), but I did like the addition of the jalapeño or pepporcini, whatever it was, for that spice factor. SOLID guys. Solid comfort food. And FRIED! Lovely lovely fried food. Two sliders for $ 4 and crack chips for $ 2. I got everything for $ 10. Not bad at all. CASHONLY! Oh, and the girl who takes orders is SUPER friendly. Luvs!
