Good mexican food. I personally prefer Paco’s Tacos but this is a good East side alternative. Perfect red enchilada sauce. Ok, fresh salsa. OK chips. OK shredded beef taco. Cute place.

Ok… so I was surprised to see that this place is actually way bigger than it looks on the outside. The ambiance is beautiful and the food is pretty good. The albondiga soup was home made tasting although when I asked for a bowl I expected a bowl not a tiny bowl with ONE albondiga. I wish that they had better service. I understand that this is a gay community and all but, the same sevice should be provided to the non gay people who visit this establishment. I was walking in at the same time that a waiter was walking in… he literally saw me and walked in infront of me and nearly let the door go in my face… and yes he made eye contact with me before he rushed infront of me… someone should teach these guys manners,…u see a patron man or woman… give them the right of way, hold the door and go in after them. .I was in this business years ago and did this for men and women, gay or straight… any who I will give it another shot and try this place again.

Food was good just service was slow. Our server only visited our table once after we were served. Needed some refills on water and didn’t get them until after we were done eating. Didn’t seem like a busy night either.

I’m not a huge fan sorry. I read about how much everyone loves their chips and I have to say they are very good! They don’t over salt which I like! Also the chips were not greasy. Very crispy and fresh! This restaurant is beautiful! I think you are paying more for the ambience then the quality in food. I got the colorado simmered beef, really extremely under spiced! The meat was also not as tender as I would have liked. The sauce to me was just not very good, maybe because I have had so much better. The sauce has I think some kind of tomato base, I think too much tomato and pretty bland. I have to say there rice and beans tasted FANTASTIC! Especially their beans! But there rice was cooked really nice, not dry they also use a nice bigger grained rice. Also the salsa that comes with the chips was also very bland as well. A little bit too runny for me as well. It just doesn’t taste like Authentic Mexican Spices. Dare I say it taste more like Americanized Mexican Food About $ 20 for dinner is I think a bit much for quantity and quality. It did come with a bowl of yummy meatball soup. The soup was flavored wonderfully and not too salty. For a better deal and quality with ambience I really love El Coyote on Beverly Blvd. The waitresses wear authentic Mexican dresses. It is really festive and fun, but I have not been there in over 4 years. Mainly due to a friend who mentioned the owner of the restaurant was against gay marriage. It was around where people were voting for Prop 8. I don’t know for sure if that is true, but that is mainly why I haven’t gone back to the restaurant, also it is interesting that the owner would say that because I feel whenever I go there, there is huge gay crowd. The food at ELCOYOTEISREALLYREALLYGOOD, genuine authentic Mexican Food!

3 stars for food. 4 stars for strong drinks 3.5 overall experience The drink have always been strong here and for happy hour the prices are right on point. a place that serves you margaritas with both tequila and vodka is a drink to remember! The food is your average mexican fare. Nothing to write home about. It is a tad overpriced even though the the portions are huge. An appetizer quesadilla with shredded beef is $ 11.50! Whaaaaat?! I mean it doesn’t even have steak in it, it has shredded beef. If you order the quesadilla with chicken, it’s not even grilled chicken; it’s just soggy dark meat. Like I said, the food is ok

Okay… It’s become evident that I have cleaRRRly been slippin’ on my pimpin’. Where has this place been all of my life??? So my Gawd’Fah’vurrr, who is older than homemade sin(BUT can’t be told that he’s not a day over 21) tends to take a road trip –every– Saturday like clockwork. Evidently traffic, within his blissful retired senility is no problem for him as he makes his way to and fro’, all the while us «mere mortals» would more aptly hit up a local Farmer’s Market and/or prepare to watch Lucy repeats, simply to allow time enough for it all to die down… …THIS ^ is all the more palpable by way of his having just purchased a new electric car of some sort and/or waiving his newfound apathy for the fluctuating prices of fuel completely within my face like a badge of honor! Is it obvious that I’m a little bitter about all of this? O__o There I digress… As it appears however, I was next on his«to do list» as he made his way to the City of Angels this past weekend and upon the two of us meeting Saturday morning, with attempt at «razzling and dazzling» him with all that Los Angeles has got to offer, …I sought to Unilocal for some place Downtown thinking I’d obtain reservations and progress from there. Boey, did he school me!!! When asked if I’d ever checked out«Casita del Campo», translated from Spanish to English as being«country house», I took NOHESITATION within my impromptu efforts, to save face. «‘Uhm, yAAAAh’, …of course I’ve been there», I remarked… «Kenny Ken has done all and SEENALL. I thought yew’ knew! I’ve been everywhere! — — I’m international — — !»(TOTAL lies…) Be my falsifications as they may, I was chauffeured to «Casita’s» unaware of just what to anticipate. But… I was hungry and uhm… he was paying,… so who was I to argue? Lord help us! Driving up to this place you’d swear you’d stumbled upon the rainbow themed, weekend cavern retreat for SnagglePuss! «Heavens to Murgatroyd… I wonder if they’ve got good food, even…» Bahahahahahah!!! No kidding though, this place is pink. We’re talkin’ Pepto Bismol —- Barbara Streisand meets Joan Crawford and spawns a gay-bie’ named Cher Jenner — type of PINNNNK! Trust me: THEREAIN’T NODRIVINGPASTIT!!! Take Hyperion beyond Sunset and brake for sombreros, mariachi and fuchsia feathered boas! Parking is more than accessible as there’s a lot just behind the restaurant($ 3.50 or so for lunch/dinner) and the first impression at entry, to my avail, was absolutely charming. Let’s just say, if you had a Mexican mother or abuelita from Guadalajara and either knew how to decorate, I’m willing to place money on THISPLACEBEING where they derived their interior decorating sense. After being greeted, we were seated promptly within the patio area and with this past weekend’s weather in mind, it was perfectly gorgeous. Chips and salsa were served without hesitation and well, while I hate to replicate the other reviews: THECHIPSANDSALSAHEREAREAMAZE-BALLS!!! The best I’ve come across thus far and I’m not certain if they sell this combo«to go» but I’d definitely be willing to pay for it just to munch on from my sofa. While we didn’t realize it in advance, we’d actually arrived just amid the time brunch was being served and I was made aware that«Casita’s» offers an array of entrée’s paired by a mimosa, margarita or Bloody Mary of your choice for roughly $ 17 – 18.00. Customer service was superb and,…DID I MENTIONTHEEYECANDY!!! I feel like Oprah… handing out stars in abundance for this!!! «You get a star and YOUUUUGET A STAR!!!» But bay-behhhh, the eye candy at this place deserves 2 damned stars!(*…winks) You all know who you are!!! Sexy service with a smile. There, …I said it! Hahahha… Hell, I’m married — — — — — – NOTBLIND! As I was and back to my review however… We departed full, marginally fatigued and feelin’ QUITE frisky from the tequila! I suppose my Godfather concluded his unofficial session of «summer school» by schooling me ONEFINALTIME as I was presented the bill and given the burden thereon of paying. #i-never-cared-much-for-mathematics Darn those old people! Gotta’ love em’!!! Having enjoyed nothing less than a marvelous experience, now I can freely lure others to this place without the need to fabricate. Thanks guys— #exit-stage-left

The staff is friendly, the food is fantastic, and the margaritas are strong! We always walk in to find smiling faces and warm greetings, no matter how busy they get the service is tops. ***Insider tip*** Try the Mexican coffee, you will not be sorry.

My friends and I came here for dinner and we will definitely be back soon. The food was great, the drinks were strong, and the staff is wonderful. This is a family run restaurant. There are pictures of the original owner in various old Hollywood films. Sadly he passed away but the restaurant is still run by his wife and son. The owners son, Mitchell greeted us at our table and told us about the restaurants history. He was very kind and even ordered us a round of tequila on the house. The rest of the staff is just as friendly & attentive. We will definitely be back again for dinner, drinks, and the live performances.

This is my 2nd time eating here and I remember not liking it then annnnndddd again still not liking it… Walked in the back way & we were seated fast. Came just at the end of happy hour so we ordered the house margarita it was on special. The margarita was the best part. I just should of drank the entire time. I really can judge a place on their chips and salsa. the chips we were served reminded me of the big bags of tortilla chips you can get at Smart & Final nothing amazing about them. The salsa was lack luster and watery and the onions in it, loaded with onion, if you do like onions, come here. So we open the menu to see plate prices between $ 16 – 18 for things like a two taco combo or some taquitos. I’m sorry but that’s outrageous. Am I at the Urasawa of Mexican food??? Another annoying thing is they don’t list prices of soda or any drinks in their menu. Why??? Is it now«market price» of Coke? I mean… I got the taco salad. It was good, I’ll be honest, it was the cheapest thing to get on the menu at $ 10 something and I’m not paying $ 18 for two taco. made me miss white washed El Coyote for a second and their cheap food. I poked some side holes in the shell to let the water escape(I’m calling it water because if I think of it as oil I’ll regret eating it). The shell was fresh, it was missing rice or more rice or something, oh I know… flavor! Yes, flavor. Mi amiga had the nachos, big plate literally two people could eat these. The cheese combo they used was good as well but once they got cold it was like nacho cement and inedible. It’s a weird little place, gay bar/drag shows downstairs… don’t think I’m hating the gays I’m a big ol’e homo myself, just sayin’ in case you’re a tourist from Arkansas with your ‘TRUMPFORPRESIDENT’ hat on looking for some good«Mexican ta’qweetos» this might not be your spot. And lastly, we won’t be back.

Before I write this review, I want to say how much it pains me to write this. This place is an institution. Places like this are rare and special. An old old fashioned Mexican restaurant that has been there since 1962 and has, for decades, been a haven for gay clientele. I have many memories of going there in the 1980s. And had many special times with friends. However, it seems that now they just don’t care. The quality of their food is abysmal. Their service terrible. Their magaritas watered down. Just terrible. I will never go there again. My Margarita was nearly $ 10 and was not even made with top shelf tequila. Just whatever they had in the well. And it tasted mostly like water. Our waiter took forever to take our order and once our food came, he was pretty much never came back. Now the food. Garbage. Absolutely inedible. The worst beans, the worst rice, the worst enchiladas and the worst chile relleno I’ve ever had. And $ 18 for a 2 item combo, it’s about the worst value for the money at any Mexican restaurant in LA. So sad. But true. I can only hope that this place stops being complacent and stops sitting back and resting on their history. Stops sitting back and counting on the gay men who’ve come there for the last 20, 30 or 40 years to keep coming back. Because it they don’t do something to change their service, their lousy drinks and their garbage food soon, they won’t be around any longer. So sorry to say.

This place is actually a hidden gem and pretty scrum-diddly-umptious if I do say so myself. First off if you don’t live in Silverlake and aren’t familiar with this place you have driven by unknowingly several times given we have all used Hyperion a slew of instances. Perfect date spot and never a wait given the space is big… this is unusual in LA as we know for good food. Lighting is dim and romantic for the most part, but also not glaring in your eyeballs. Alright let’s get to the damn food already right!!! Chips and salsa… you are taken care of here and the only challenge is to not eat too much before dinner comes. Margaritas are hit or miss… if it comes sugary(has a couple times)…we just send that bad boy back and they make it strong like bull. You will be sittin’ pretty after a couple if they get it right. WHATTOORDER… fajitas and enchiladas I have never strayed from, and they have never done me wrong… rice and beans are solid too. It’s authentic and not crazy new age southwestern flare mexican with mango salsa type nonsense… this is the match made in heaven that is flour tortillas, meat, refried beans, and rice you have journeyed for.

THEBESTCHIPSANDSALSA! Considering it’s in a three way tie with donuts and buffalo wings as my favorite food, I judge every Mexican restaurant harshly by this appetizer. I am usually half full by the time the main entrée comes to the table after devouring a couple bowls worth while the company I’m around talks amongst each other about… who knows what?! Summary: If I’m underwhelmed by a place’s chips and salsa…*BooM* there go two stars(not kidding). While at first it seems a bit overpriced, a single entrée’s portion is usually enough for two accompanied by an appetizer. I recommend their burrito combination plates, nachos, albondigas soup and enchiladas if you’re a first timer. As far as their Margaritas go, their house on the rocks is superb while their blended are meh. I always sat in their ambient courtyard but today it was so hot that we opted to sit inside. I never realized how big and cute the inside is! I recommend their happy hour and ordering pick-up. The prices in general are quite reasonable for Silverlake’s now near Beverly Hills prices. The hit or miss service and some things on the menu(i.e. carnitas plate and chicken mole) are not at the same level of others on the menu. Casita del Campo= 4.5 stars

What’s funny is that there was a Unilocal caption to my check-ins here stating«what keeps you coming back?» The answer to that question is that I’m no longer coming back. Casita del Campo has a really cute ambiance to it. There’s a real, live huge tree growing within the restaurant and it’s pretty neat! This would be a cool, casual date place if you’re looking for a full bar and lengthy conversations(they’ll keep the salsa and chips coming). But only if you want to pay big bucks for average food. Paying $ 15-$ 18 for a plate of Mexican food is insane, especially when there is lots of little Mexican joints all around Glendale and Central LA. And really, rice and beans shouldn’t cost that much! I’m not longer in the dating stage, so I shall pass. In fact, the first time I came here was a cool, casual date with the bf. Hah. Great memories, not so great prices.

I am in search for the best Mexican restaurant near me. It seems i just cannot find one that i am overly in love with that isn’t overpriced either. This spot is one of the cutest spots i have been too. Definitely got a great ambiance. The food though is just alright. Nothing from my dinner experience really sticks out as amazing. I would go back though simply for drinks, atmosphere and the hospitality(and this time sit at the Frida table!!)

This place is just alright. I’ve been here twice now and probably won’t be back. I don’t believe that the food here has anything special. A lot of the food simply lacks flavor. I would not recommend the Carne Asada plate. The meat cut is not of good quality and is not flavorful at all! The chicken on the Caesar salad was very disappointing. I don’t even think a little salt was used to season it. However, the salad itself was good. I would recommend trying the sopa de albondigas. This soup with meatballs has a very homemade taste. It’s comes with many veggies and probably was the only tasty part of my dinner. Oh! I can’t forget about he complimentary salsa and chips those are definitely great! The salsa is not spicy. As for the service I thought it was just a little below average. They were not as attentive as I would have liked and they took a very long time to bring the check. As soon as we finished our meals we asked for the bill. They had cleared our table and we were still waiting for about 15 minutes for them to finally get us our check. No one was rude, however, they were very slow. Again over all this place is just average. I think that you can definitely have a tastier experience somewhere else.

Nice dinner and cocktails(4 stars) Been here several times and just writing a review now. Made it to Happy Hour and got the house margaritas — pretty good. Chips and salsa at the bar were really good. Delicious salsa, but the hot salsa was too hot for me. We were 9 at the table and service was good. I got the Cochinita Pibil and it was nice and tasty, with rice and beans, along with pickled onions. We also got carnitas — looks good. Other got crab and chicken enchiladas Great evening with good friends and new friends. Check out my photos. Hoping to return.

I am excited to share my experience at Casita del Campo. This is a perfect one-stop night out in the super cool neighborhood of Silverlake. Come for lunch, dinner or drinks. For lunch they have a separate menu where their popular dishes are specially priced. The food is good. They serve typical dishes that you expect to find at any Mexican restaurant worth your effort– combinations and all. The mole is particularly good here. They serve it a few ways– with chicken or in an enchilada. I recommend getting that… and a spicy margarita with Don Julio tequila! I love their bar area. I had a delicious margarita by myself in the bar waiting for my friends to arrive. The bar is intimate and dark– a great spot to meet for drinks. And I’m not one to drop names, but I did see two celebrities in the bar the night I was here– a Sunday. Just saying. Also– the service is fantastic. Attentive bartenders and wait staff. Great margaritas too. If you want to add a little culture to your night, after dinner you can head downstairs to their in-house theater where they host a plethora of comedians, plays, one man shows– you name it. Get your tickets on-line to ensure a seat– it is a very intimate venue, AKA not a lot of seats, so don’t risk winging it. Plan ahead. I had dinner at Casita del Campo because I was seeing a show in their basement– Chico’s Angels. Its like Charlie’s Angels, but with drag queens. The show was amazing! Kay Sadia and her detective ‘girlfriends’ kept me laughing all night! The stage is small but the talent– Huge! If you get a chance to see Chico’s Angels, I say– don’t miss it! They rotate 4 shows throughout the year. The next one is a Christmas episode I can not wait to see! Casita del Campo is going to be a YES! I loved it and had a great time. Bookmark this one friends. Its perfect for groups or just meeting up with a friend for a drink in the bar. Excellent people watching too. You never know who may walk in…

Food is nothing to report home about. The complimentary chips and salsa are 10⁄10. I only ever come here for their happy hour, where margaritas are about $ 7 and appetizers are a few bucks off. Not the best happy hour, but a decent option in the area if you want some chips and margaritas. Service is great, ambiance is cute/there’s a great patio area, and valet is $ 3.50.
