Well, I guess it’s a wrap for Calpop. I walked by their space today and saw an eviction notice on the door. I feel bad for these guys because they are genuinely nice people but they didn’t listen to their customers at all and never supported them. It’s no wonder they went out of business. If they would have just worked with me, I would have stayed there. But the helpdesk and everyone just ignored my technical problems. I don’t wish failure on anyone so I am sorry they went out of business but there was a reason they did unfortunately. And I want to also respond to their comment about my reviews of them. It just demonstrates how out of touch they were with my issues. If you read my reviews, I specifically mentioned we were getting DDOS’ed from INSIDE their network — NOTOUTSIDE — like the comment mentions. There was no VLAN setup and there were internal IPs in the network attacking my equipment. The attacks were so harsh that my firewall rated to handle 5GBPs of traffic per second was rebooting due to the load it was handling from the DDOS attack. I have documented proof that the DDOS attack was a result of piss poor network design and there was absolutely nothing we could have done to block it. Right after I moved my equipment into a new colo, everything worked perfectly. I am still there to this day without one single issue. In regard to my reviews, yes I am harsh on companies because most companies fail to deliver good service. When they do, I am sure to give them excellent ratings and make sure to do everything I can to promote them. Look up my good reviews and see how much effort I make to be sure to tell people that the business is good. The problem is that people have gotten used to sub par service. Unilocal is accurate. If you deliver good service, you will have good reviews. Don’t try to put the blame of these problems on me. Not one person took 5 minutes to look at my issue when I was at Calpop. Also, search the Internet and see how many people were complaining about this company so my negative review is not an isolated incident.

We are a web design company in Los Angeles and our server’s been hosting with CalPOP for last 5 years .The experience with CalPOP has been nothing but POSITIVE. I feel like I know some of the staff over there, even though we’ve never met in person. Ravi has been particularly helpful advising me on several complicated server configurations and as a result their performance has exceeded my expectations. CalPOP Staff is very fast and responsive. We’ve been streaming some online video events and CalPOP’s bandwidth and speed just flawless, can’t really beat it for this price. I’d solidly recommend Calpop to any of my friends and associates.

I placed a colo freeBSD server at calpop 12 years ago in 2002. They have moved once, from Wilshire in Koreatown to the present location in an old Broadway department store now data center on 7th st. There is plenty of competition in colo and hosting, but Everett and Calpop have been more than competitive. What is important is the help, 24/7, access, and available expertise. Calpop is OS and platform agnostic. If there were a compelling enough reason to move my freeBSD server elsewhere, I would. Thus far, I haven’t found a better deal in consistency of bandwidth availability, access, and support. You will stay up and connected with Calpop.
