i used to duck in here every now. Until two things happened: 1) I couldn’t afford their laughably overpriced arrangement of 3 – 4 leaves of arugula topped with an almond sliver and drizzled with hatred, 2) the owners overtly discriminated against black clientele and upon engaging me in a leisurely discussion on global politics ‘disavowed’ me when I suggested all people deserve to be free and not oppressed including the Palestinians, 3) the owner flipped me off when he spotted me enjoying an affordably priced sandwich at their rival restaurant«K24» next door, 4) told me i didn’t know how to count.

A shop as friendly and inviting as the alleyways of Hollywood. Based off the signage on the windows alone, I’ve avoided entering this place for sometime. I live a few blocks away and walk by often running errands or going to the farmers market. Immediately to the left of the front door you will find a sign warning against«wifi squatters” — I get it, you’re a coffee shop and I’m sure this is a huge issue for this type of business. However for potential customers(I myself being someone who works from home a lot and also who works from local coffee shops) this sign is just snarky on all sorts of levels. As a coffee shop with wifi in an area surrounded by tons of businesses and students, you’re going to get squatters. Instead of telling them don’t even step in here, how about you enable wifi time limits(as many shops already do.) When I finally did come in here with my husband(on a farmer’s market morning), my husband went to order coffee and I walked to the bathroom. Per the signage here, I went and asked for the key. She let me know someone was in the bathroom and that I could go wait for them to come out. When the person in the bathroom came out, she gave me a weird look when I reached for the door and told me she was going to return the key to the front. I used the restroom and when I came out the same woman was sitting watching the door, and then watching me too as I walked back to my husband(basically making sure I had purchased something to warrant using the restroom.) She then stood up and checked the bathroom to make sure I had closed the door… Coming in to this place does not make you feel like a welcomed customer. This business essentially sees you as dollars or not dollars. I understand the bottom line of a business is based on its ability to make a profit but in order to build that profit you should probably focus on creating a relationship with your clientele and encouraging repeat customers.

This place is awesome! I work across the street and get my coffee here almost everyday. Viviana and her staff are great and friendly and know what they’re doing. Their drinks and food are really good, as well.(Try the empanadas!) Great atmosphere and décor! The only reason I don’t give them all 5 stars is because their prices are pretty high which adds up if you’re buying coffee everyday. But hey, if you own a business on the corner of a main street in Hollywood, I imagine your rent is pretty high so it’s understandable.

I likes a lot. I’m not a coffee drinker but the woman at the counter helped me identify the perfect hot drink to satiate my appetite. And boy is it tasty! Nice open space and chill music lends itself to either catching up with friends, having a meeting or tapping away on your laptop. Wi-Fi is free with the purchase, but you won’t have any trouble figuring out which of the amazing menu items to order. Oh and breakfast is served all day. The final touches are the French bistro-style chairs outside which make for a grand spot to people watch in the heart of Hollywood.

I have fantasies about doing something wrong here. The encounters I have had with the owner or management have left me feeling disappointed because nobody who works here is a sadist at least when I am around. And reading these reviews make me wonder whether if I am too nice and appropriate. I have never stayed too long to abuse the elusive wifi surfing policy, sat without paying for a drink first, used the bathroom without a drink in my hand, sat in front of the guitar stand or look like I spent the night sleeping on Hollywood Blvd.(I sleep in an apartment OFF Hollywood Blvd. thank you) to be refused service. I have never cursed in Caffe Etc, stolen a cookie, licked the gelato off the smörgåsbord, thrown recyclable cups into the garbage, or refused to pay a dollar for a cup of tap water… I have constantly, perhaps too infrequently, gotten iced coffee here and have mostly been a good sailor with the cold coffee in my hand. It’s hard for me to say anything bad about this place because I don’t eat their expensive food. However, the location is great, the service is good, the owner Viviana is kind of hot and the coffee is definitely not bad. The furniture and layout of the café are my biggest issues actually; their outdated and uncomfortable chairs look like something you’d find in an ice cream shop and probably keep people from staying too long.

I’ve been here 2 times now. 1st experience was great the Brewster/cashier was so kind and just happy to see you walk in. I could feel the positive energy once I walked in. 2nd experience here was Saturday afternoon. again kind and welcoming a lot busier that’s for sure! But they still slowed down and toke the moment to recommend me something new! As humans when we get busy we forget to connect with people but they sure didn’t.!! also, noticed how many loyal local customers came in to grab a cup of coffee. as far as that comment of smoking outside. California is a smoke free community! you must be 10 feet away from the restaurant, bar, Café, etc. because 2nd hand smoke is toxic. I’m grateful this manger/owner stands firm in protecting her clients rights. Great place to study!!! Free wifi!

They refused to give us any service whatsoever. Worst café I have ever been too. As a chef, this is highly unacceptable. We were told we couldn’t stand by the outside seats unless we were customers and that we were not allowed to smoke cigarettes. So we apologized and cane inside to order a coffee. We were told we cannot order but we’re not given a valid reason. Even After We’re Told To order Something OR leave. We had the cops called on us. And just for the record. For the woman who was supposedly the manager/owner, I’m not even Mexican.

QUICKTIPS: I enjoyed the Café Mocha(iced & hot). It’s $ 4.00 minimum to use your card here. I’ve come here on the off-chance a few times. It’s not a coffee place I’d recommend to anyone if they’re looking for a good one. My reason: The service usually consists someone being short & seemingly annoyed or irritated by something. I’ve only had a good experience once, and I can remember it: The barista recommended something really good(the café mocha), and made it herself very quickly. Other than that, the coffees take too long to come out and the service is not very friendly. POSITIVES: The coffee is good. Very bold flavor and sweet. The food options are OK.

I come here maybe 2 – 3 times a week for lunch, as I work walking distance away. The owner(?) and the girls who work here are sweet. Coffee and cappuccinos are always great and I usually get their chicken or chipotle paninis(sometimes the chipotle is a little too spicy though). It takes maybe 10 minutes for my order, if not less at times, so it’s perfect for a quick grab-and-go lunch.

We were walking around the Farmer’s Market on Sunday and stopped by to get a cup of coffee before going on a drive. We ended up leaving because the people working here were extremely rude. I stopped by the restroom first while my fiancé was ordering his coffee. There was a sign saying that the bathroom door doesn’t lock so I knocked on the door to check if anyone was in there before I tried to walk in. A girl rushed past me into the restroom saying that she just needed to change into her work uniform – and I told her I just needed to get a paper towel and rinse off the figs I bought from the farmers market – it wouldn’t even take 15 seconds. She completely ignores me and I decided it’s fine, I understand she might be late for work. BUT the thing that gets me is that while I’m waiting for this chick to finish changing a lady working at the register makes her way over to me telling me that I can’t use the bathroom because it’s for paying customers only. I was going to tell her my fiancé was ordering something and she tells me that he didn’t have cash on him and the credit card charge is a minimum of $ 4.00, «so unless you have cash we will have to ask you to leave.» I understand that cafes are reluctant to let non-customers use their bathrooms, but I’ve never had employees treat me so rudely at a café before. I probably would have bought our drinks myself if I hadn’t felt so disrespected. Unfortunately I can’t comment on the quality of their food and beverages, but the service here is really bad.

Love this caffe! Everyone working there is so nice and patient with you ordering(kinda a big menu). Food and coffee was delicious! And healthy! Had breakfast and coffee to start my day off and came back later on to have some gelato. Was the best gelato I’ve had in California! Definitely going to be a repeat customer. One side note the prices are a bit high but it’s absolutely worth it!

My go to place for my iced cappuccino — and meeting anyone on this side of town. Been coming here for years and I still keep coming — plus the food is really good — yummy soups, sandwiches and breakfast items all day. If you want gelato, they have that too! Coffee is fair trade, like dessert in itself — I like to taste my coffee with my coffee — and most places milk it down — but not here, it takes like a rich European style coffee. And Viviana is warm and welcoming. Can’t be beat!

I drive by Café Etc every morning, and almost every morning I see an employee hosing down the sidewalk. I have told that employee that we are in a drought and she shouldn’t be hosing the sidewalk, but she ignored me. I would not support this business because of it’s consistent water waste. I will be reporting Café Etc to .

the most yawnerific coffee in town, with free entertainment of how racist the angry owner is. All the one-star reviews are pretty much right on. Looking forward to this place being replaced by Starbucks or the city dump. Either one would be better.

Meh, cool place but the coffee was ok but not worth the price. I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately it was disappointing. It’s in a good location but the place is a bit small. The staff was very nice. And it has a cool feel. Overall? Yeah it’s ok.

Love Caffe Etc! Viviana is the best. Personable, conversational, really wants customers to have a great experience. I love the location, atmosphere, and also that they have several vegan options. I’m a big fan of their soups(which I believe are always vegan), the gelato(vegan flavors, of course), and enjoying an iced tea or one of the fun coffee/espresso blend drinks. A great place to chill for a bit, or a good place to just swing by for a to-go drink or bite.

The«owner» of this place sucks. I was a PAYING customer, just enjoying my latte and he came over and demanded that I move my stuff«over there» and made a motion as if I was a piece of garbage. «I am the owner and this space is for the guitar display» uhhh okay.(the guitars that are mounted ONTHEWALL?!) I am SO sorry, I must be in the way of the whole two people sitting in the place who are dying to check out your display. I had been sitting cozy at a seat by the window for over an hour doing work on my lap top. SORUDE. Put up a sign that says«Please don’t sit in our café» You just lost a new customer. Be aware of who you are talking to next time.
