The coffee was good. Nothing to write home about. The ambience is cute and dark, but I was not impressed with my overall experience. «Free Wifi» needs a username and password. Annoying hipsters sitting around working on their screenplay giving you side eye, and most importantly, a dingy bathroom. After ordering drinks I sat with my friend to chat in the back beyond the pool table. We were approached and asked if we were going to order something. Our drinks still on the table beside us. This felt rude like he was asking us to order or leave, which came off as odd, since there were others around with drinks, and a gentleman just sleeping on the couch off to the side. Whether the waiter meant to be rude or not, his question came off as abrasive. I told him that we had ordered already and gestured at our drinks. He then walked away. Not long after that incident, we left, and I unfortunately left my sweater there. I have been attempting to contact the location for over an hour, and the phone gives me a busy signal, which means someone left it off the hook. I am really dissatisfied with the service. It came off as abrasive and unprofessional.

Unique coffee shop in Franklin Village. The atmosphere is dark, divey, and spacious with lots of overstuffed couches big tables. Vampire bar meets living room meets antique coffee shop. Somehow very soothing and a nice place to stay cool and hidden from sunlight. Barista in the Fred Perry polo was very nice. The coffee menu is simple and reasonably priced. My cold brew was good. They have packaged vegan cookies(Alternative Baking Company brand), but not much other vegan food. $ 7.50 for a coffee and cookie. They accept all credit cards. I will come back here to write or get some work done on my computer, if am in a particularly goth mood and feel like being shrouded in darkness.

I’ve been to this spot a few times. It’s got hipster written all over it, but I have to admit that I’ve had good times here with some friends. Food I had was tasty, but I would agree with other Unilocalers that for the price they are skimpy on the portions so I don’t come hungry. If I eat, it’s «social eating.» Love the selection of tea as I don’t do coffee at all so I can’t speak for the coffee. It’s fun to meet up with a friend or two and have some tea late at night in a place that looks like a bar or lounge but without the heaviness of drunken people. I’ve never been in the jungle room! I’m trying to think of why, but it was probably crowded and seemed over the top. I’m from L.A. so feeling like I’m on a movie set is just not appealing. Other people seem to like it. Tea, dessert, good friends make this place fun enough despite the any hipster run ins and general people that want to be «scene.» That unfortunately is the temperature of L.A., which as someone who was born here, is mostly coming from people from outside L. A…

Cozy and very nice café, with a huge selection of tea! I’m tea lover so for me it’s the best place to go to get a big cup of tea and chat with friends or just read a book! Love it

There area is a hipster vibe scene. Except, like anyone comes here! I truly recommend coming to this place if you’re looking for a date night, catch up with friends, or just some coffee and wifi sesh. FYI, the wifi is not free. You are handed a code once you make a purchase. :)

This one of the coolest coffee houses anywhere. And certainly my favorite. It’s in a very hip location in the Franklin Village. The jungle room is absolutely the best part of this place. It’s a room in the back that is really dark and decorated like a jungle. Perfect for make out sessions, intimate conversations, small groups hanging out, or just chilling alone on your computer or phone. They also have a pool table. Some of the drawbacks about this place are that, a few times in the past it has taken a very long time to get a drink. Like 20 – 25 minutes. The place could be cleaner too. And customers don’t usually talk much. It’s pretty quiet, with peeps usually on their laptops. I wish everyone was more social and talked more, like a coffee house should be. Otherwise, I love this place!

I love this place, everything is fresh and delicious. I’m giving this place 4 stars just because it needs some improvement. Some tables are really old, or couch in the forest. Best tomato soup in LA)

This place is pretty hip. I got introduced here by a friend a while ago. It’s my second time here. The teas are amazing! The back area is really cool. It has a jungle vibe with trees, lights, and a hut. It also has a pool table in the back as well. The music is hip. I would recommend everybody to come here. It’s a cool place to come with a few friends or even come on a coffee date.

I’m going to begin by saying that there is a certain type of vibe at this place. I would safely say that the more creative types or hipsters attend this coffee shop especially since it’s next to UCB and smack in Hollywood. It’s dimly lit with a disco ball hanging, couches align the walls along with a couple of tables while a pool table hangs out back. We came here to kill some time while waiting for a show at the UCB. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have an array of loose leaf teas that they serve in a tea pot. I’m curious if you’re able to get hot water refills, but we didn’t stay long enough to find out. I enjoy loose leaf tea very much, and maybe find myself here if I ever have some creative work to do on my Mac because yanno, gotta fit the part!

Off the beaten path + Weird LA = Bourgeois Pig Bourgeois Pig is a hipster’s paradise. The artsy grunge setting transforms The Pig into a cool hip sanctuary for people to play pool, grab a drink, study, stare at the disco ball, and chill. Everything about Bourgeois Pig is memorable, and it’s the type of spot you always want to show your friends when in the neighborhood. The ambiance is comparable to something you’d find in Amsterdam, which I give two thumbs up. Awesome. My favorite part is the forest lounge which is a room surrounded by fake trees and other plants. It makes you feel like you’re in an adult fairy tale. With that said, drinks/food is mediocre, rooms are dark, furniture looks dirty, and the interior seems to be deteriorating. 3 ½ stars.

I found this place’s name to be incredibly funny so naturally while I was in Thai Town and wanting to find a place to grab coffee and continue my talks with a friend, I had to choose this place. I got an double shot americana and it was done pretty fast and no complaints on the coffee or the barista. The dimly lit coffee house seems to attract all sorts of people who fits into this niche community of 30 – 40 year olds saying«bro,» and 25 year old up-and-coming hipsters. Inside you’d find people with documents spread out on tables«studying» or what have you and a billiard table. So if you find yourself lucky you can even play billiards! There are several lounge chairs and a lounge room. It was dimly lit and for some reason I dare not walk in. It looked cozy but if I was depressed I would try to avoid that side of the place, for one can fall deep into becoming a recluse there. Parking is a pain but overall the place was pretty cool. Coffee not too expensive for the area and the environment is pretty neat.

This place has a unique vibe. It’s a coffeeshop but feels like a lounge. There’s also a disco ball that adds to the weirdness. Oh and did I mention the awesome Eric Clapton music selection? I’m not sure how there were so many people here working on their laptops. The darkness is off-putting and can’t be good for their eyes. Anyways, my boyfriend and I came here to grab some coffee before our flight out of LAX. The barista was super friendly! We got lattes and shared one of the giant pastries, the lemon poppy seed muffin. Quite tasty but nothing special. Bourgeois Pig definitely has its own personality to match its cool name!

This place is ok. It isn’t a coffee shop where one can study and be focus. I do enjoy the free wifi, however the wifi only allows you to be on for 90 minutes!!! I cannot really concentrate when doing homework here. It is literally a mingle and talk with friends kind of place. It’s pretty loud and the music is even loud(I can’t hear myself speaking at times). The genre of music being played is corny alternative music. The staff is nice the customer service is nice, just don’t come here to study

This place used to be my hangout spot. I spent a lot of time here when I was a teenager, and challenged a lot of people for a game of pool on that tilted billiard table of theirs. Love the atmosphere, the music, the type of people that come here, and oh their tea selection! Their coffee is good too(not the best); however, I like their teas much better. I have tried most of the items on their menu. From shakes, hot chocolate to their sandwiches and desserts. Their shakes and hot chocolates are flavorful and tasty, but a bit too sweet for my taste. Their sandwiches are your typical sandwiches that you get at any cafes, and their baked goods are always fresh. The vibe is quite chill, the lighting here is perfect for studying, and it’s also a great place for hanging out and relaxing. The baristas here are very welcoming, and the place is open till 2! This is not your typical café. It’s kind of unique. If it’s your first time there don’t forget to checkout the room in the back. It’s dark and full of fake trees. Yep, they have a fake jungle in the back. Bet you don’t see that often.

Nope. Other reviewers were right — this place has gotten from meh to bad to worse. While the welcoming baristas, plentiful chairs and outlets are still there; the awesome clientele isn’t — mainly because these guys took away the one thing they had over the rest: unlimited free wifi. Sadly, the little nook in the forest room, the random syrups for awesome milkshakes, and the availability of outlets don’t make up for the fact I need a receipt for timed wifi. Nothing will make up for that. I don’t even think I’ll be going to The Pig while waiting for a UCB show. That’s how disappointed I am. UPDATE: So after visiting tons of other coffee shops and co-working spaces all over Los Angeles County, I realized being mad at The Pig for charging for wifi did nothing for me. I went back, and I had a lovely pumpkin milkshake while I tried to focus on a book I just remembered I own(and still haven’t finished).

DONOTGOHERE! It seems that this place hates military veterans and the disabled. On at least two occasions they have kicked out disabled veterans with service animals. In the one instance I know the most about, neither the service animal nor the patron(a kind, sweet woman) was causing a problem. The business was worried that the presense of an animal in their restaurant was a problem and insisted the person leave because they had an animal. This is a clear violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and probably illegal to do to a disabled person and a shame to do to a service member, especially one who has been through as much as the vet that was abused by the staff at this place. My repeated attempts to contact managment have gone ignored even though promises were made to do so according to several staff members. They do not care. I hope people read this and they change their discriminatory ways. Also, the place Has a crappy atmosphere; so dark you need a flashlight to eat your food… but I’d skip the trip anyway because the food sucks.

This is a super cute lil coffee shop/foodery. It’s really dark, so don’t come here to read or do work. There is a pool table and a great little nook area with lots of sofas. There are really good specialty coffee drinks and desserts. Sandwiches and salads will run you about $ 9 – 11, portions aren’t huge and food is pretty good, but not the most bang for your buck.

I’ve been to the Bourgeois Pig a few times in my college years and it still has that non-Hollywood vibe. It is a great place for conversation and chilling with a refreshing beverage. The Pig is definitely bohemian and artsy. Free Wi-Fi is included, not to mention they have an extensive selection of coffees, teas, baked goods, and sandwiches. Late operating hours draw high schoolers, college students, writers, and neighborhood patrons to this joint. Parking is nonexistent for the Bourgeois Pig. I have to drive around for 15 – 20 minutes just looking for a spot. The best bet for parking is to drive around the residential streets that surround the Pig.

Found this place after looking for a place that is open late night. The forrest room in the back feels straight out of a fantasy novel and is a wonderful place to sit and get work done. The Moroccan mint tea for 2 is what I usually share with my BF. I’ve also had the pirate chai green tea is yummy as well! The internet isn’t the best and will be very slow or even stop working at times. Pretty pricey but you’re really paying for the environment and place to sit when you go to places like this right?

Amazing coffee, cute location and great atmosphere! The Bourgeois Pig is a local favourite in what is usually a town riddled with tourist traps. Set next to a gorgeous book/knick knack store on Franklin Ave this little café boasts a great coffee selection plus some delicious food options both sweet and savoury. The best feature this place has to offer is its quiet, mystical vibe; enhanced with mismatched furniture, dim lights and a room decked out with fake trees and mood lighting. A perfect first date spot as it is cosy and easy to talk! If you love quirky, cute and quality hit up the Bourgeois Pig and fall in love.

So a friend invited me to this spot. Can you say brownie points. What a dope coffee shop. The barista really takes his time to make a good beverage. There’s a room that’s makes you feel like you’re in the woods. Heaven! Very unique and entrancing in a way. I think I’ve found a new place to do some writing! The place just puts you in the space. Haven’t been anywhere like it. Oh AND they have a pool table. What?! Coming back!

This is one of the most unique and memorable coffee shops I have been to. The décor is very dated, not in a bad way, but this place has a rustic, almost Haunted Mansion-y kind of feel. It’s very, very dark in here which makes it seem more like a bar than a coffee shop, but the coffee here is good and strong. There are plenty of power outlets for you to plug in your electronics, and a cool pseudo-forest lounge area in the back. They are open really late too, which is convenient.

It is funky and different in here. Welcomed by the friendly smile of the barista, ordered an Americano and croissant. Both were excellent, and enjoyed to the sweet sounds playing through the stereo. I usually hang out in brighter spots, but a beatnik looking dude writing in a notebook and sipping coffee outside a few nights ago at 11pm raved about it. He told of stories of coffee excellence and a custom engineered espresso machine. One was intrigued… .highly recommended

cute place, alright drinks. Dive bar + coffee shop mixed into one kind of feel. maybe with a slight touch of eerie haunted castle? TERRIBLYHORRIFICSERVICE. Oh my godddd. I’m so sad because this place was SO cute. let me start off by telling you want happened when I called: *ring ring* Man: Hello? Me: uhhh. hello?(unsure if it was the correct number to the business because he answered like it was a personal cell phone and didn’t state the name of the restaurant at all.) Man: Hello? me: Hello??? are you guys busy tonight? Man: .Hello? I can’t hear you. me: *thinks to myself omg did i just call a random guys cell phone and ask him if he’s busy tonight* Hi are you guys busy tonight?! Man: Yeah we’re pretty busy. Me: oh so you don’t think there’s any room to study? Man: Oh, theres plenty of room, come on down! So I think, ok great it was just a misunderstanding and he’s actually nice — -WRONG. I come in to study with a friend, who got there first and ordered a pot of tea. First: it was FREEZING in there. I was shivering. but ok I think, I should have brought a sweater. no biggie. Then, I go up to the counter to ask for another cup(for the pot of tea). First of all, the guy didn’t even pay me any attention as he was too busy leaning into the girl at the bar seating, eyes latched onto her, ignoring me. Somehow I finally break his hypnosis and ask for a cup. For a brief second he takes his eyes off her, grabs a cup(seemingly annoyed), turns back and hands me the cup(without saying a word or looking at me, and goes right back to gazing at her like a puppy. It only gets better. I was super peeved by this point, but whatever. I’m here to study anyhow. But then the music starts to play SUPERBLARINGLOUD but it’s like some kind of weird gothic(?) music that was super creepy like a haunted house. Then he changes it to like some rascal flatts in mid-song and keeps changing it back and forth. Scary — Country — Pop — Scary — Alternative, not completing any of them by the way WHILESINGINGEXTREMELYLOUD! As if the music wasn’t loud enough, the singing was even louder. Don’t get me wrong, his singing was good, but cmon dude. Idk definitely not my cup of tea. or pot of tea.

For me, a coffee shop needs to function as both a great meeting place to get work done and have decent coffee and food options. I can speak highly of either of them here, though admittedly, I used to like this place a whole lot more when the internet was free, now it just comes with any purchase(it sure makes getting work done easier). Tucked away at the end of a block on Franklin, this coffee shop has an almost dive-bar atmosphere. There’s always music playing(I’m a grandpa so it’s a little too loud for my tastes) with mismatched furniture, a pool table and a bungalow in back. No major complaints about the coffee or food, but nothing I’d go out of my way for, especially for the price. I just can’t figure out who they’re trying to please!

This is a really great place to chill for some coffee and bites. The coffee is good and they have some interesting eats. Albeit, just a tad on the pricey side as far as cafes go but not unreasonable. They have several sofas and tables to use while you do some work using their free WiFi. The ambiance is dimly lit but artsy and lots of creative types camp out here to do their work. You have to get the WEP code from them which is written on your receipt, so you are encouraged to buy something first before using up bandwidth. They have a pool table toward the back of the dining area and order counter which is a novel idea for a coffee house. Parking is tight since it is Franklin Village but with some patience one can be found around the neighborhood. I like this place and will definitely be back again soon.

I’ve lived in the beachwood area for the last 3 years so I’ve frequented Bourgeious Pig probably a dozen times in the past trying to «give it one more chance» but realistically I may just not understand the space so take that into account before reading the rest of my review –especially if you’re a regular here. When I think coffee shops I think two types of places. One is either a quick grab and go type place or a sit down and work vibe. The weird thing is I feel like it doesn’t fit either category… But maybe that’s what makes it loved by so many? Parking is next to impossible in Franklin Village so it’s definitely not a quick coffee on the way to work type spot. You’re better off flying to Columbia, grabbing your own beans, then going to Sears for a coffee maker, setting up the machine and making your own coffee before you find a spot to park in! And as far as working there… it’s a bit too dark and doesn’t have too much of a productive vibe. Unless of course you’re a poet or a tragic novelist. Cleanliness, I felt like the furniture needed to be steam cleaned or just thrown out. I get the vibe they’re going for but bare skin on some of those Persian rug sofas does not seem very appealing to me, especially when I’m consuming food or drink in the same vicinity. Honestly, I feel like the best use of the space is to break up with someone. You can go there, sit in a dark corner, have a low volume conversation about how«baby it’s me it’s not you» and cross your fingers hoping the other person doesn’t lose their **** on you in public. But hey if they do it’s not like you’re a regular… Right? Wait… RIGHT?!? Haha no but in all seriousness I guess if you have time to kill waiting for a reservation at one of the restaurants next door or want a night cap after dinner, it would be a cool place to drop in and grab a tea or coffee. Unfortunately for me personally, the nostalgia is lost in translation…

This hip little hole in the wall is far too easy to miss if you’re not an in-the-know local, like a true Angelino & know what you’re looking for– even given the obvious sign facing the street. It’s wedged between a tiny gift shop and another restaurant on the right side. Don’t let the dim & grungy interior turn you off when you walk through the door. Once settled, the vibe offers you a mixture between a cool, eclectic downtown hangout & someone’s tricked out basement, complete with vintage lamps, candles, mirrors, couches, and even a pool table at the back. The menu is modest, but delicious & fairly-priced, especially if you’re a bit of a coffee snob, like me. They have all the expected coffee shop options such as Cappuccinos, Lattes, Espressos, & so forth. But if you want something truly worthwhile, try the Bourgeois Latte. It’s a sweet mixture of espresso, steamed milk, mocha, & hazelnut. And at $ 5.50 for a 16oz. cup, it’s the perfect drink for a sweettooth fix. The food menu is even more modest– mostly sandwiches, pastries, & other café staples– but even those look really hard to pass up. The huge cookies & hefty muffins, in particular, look like the perfect Heavenly pairing to go with your coffee or tea. Or Kombucha, which they also happen to sell. Overall, I think this place’s highest selling point is the chill hipster vibe. It really draws you in & makes you want to stay a while. Seriously, though, that Bourgeois Latte. Get it!
