Blue Lagoon Caribbean Soul Food

I checked this review today and was amazed that there had been given negative comments about my 2012 comments about the now closed Blue Lagoon. I reviewed my comments about this establishment and they were true to my experience. Suspicious? How about truthful about my own experience. How could the owner not know about the «Groupon» (not Google) offer??? They wouldn’t just post an offer without the owner requesting it!

Love this place. Meat pies are yummy. Service always friendly. They make me bread pudding if I ask since they don’t sell it often. I usually get meet pies. Both the chicken and beef are tasty but the seasoning in the chicken is better. I had the curry chicken w rice and plantains.

I was kind of shocked and suspicious of Gerlonda’s review of the restaurant. So since over the years I have come to know the owner of this establishment, I asked her about it. The reason she didn’t know about a Google offer is because she didn’t authorize it. But if the food was so awful, why did Gerlonda go back and try to redeem yet another unauthorized google offer there? In my opinion the owner was too nice to accept the voucher the first time.
In any event I am sad to say the doors have closed (hopefully they will be re-​purposed). I’m sure it’s due to the owner being too nice to people like Gerlonda who try to get over on the mom & pop operations while they gladly patronize the bigger stores & mediocre restaurants without complaint.
One thing though, Gerlonda said she hadn’t been to this restaurant since it first opened (in spite of the food being fresh and tasty). I didn’t experience this carribean goodness until one or two years after it initially opened yet I was the first to review. With this kind of lack of enthusiasm & backstabbing from those who actually liked the food here, it’s a wonder how this business lasted this long. Unilocalers, let this be a lesson to us. When we enjoy something, if we want to continue enjoying it, we need to spread the word. And we have to support the business more than once every 5 years.

This place is nice and clean being in from Ohio I love there fish ReAl fish I wanted Red Snapper and they were out also there potatoe salad had pees in it yuck

Its hard to find good carribean food in LA. And this is from Beliz which I have not had. But the food was great! The place is clean. Owners were nice. Everything is WAY cheap! I highly recommend the meat pies for a buck fifty. You could make a meal on them alone. Conch fritters were awesome. Jerk sauce and curry was great but not as spicy as Jamacain. It was so cheap we could try alot. Get a ginger beer to wash it down. Yum!

Tried this place the other night. I had the curry shrimp and my wife had the fish stew, both were extremely tasty and very generous portions. Our friends had the jerk chicken, chicken curry, oxtails and some other stuff and everyone enjoyed it.
The prices are between $ 10-​$ 15 plate including a side and salad. We’ll definitely be going back.

I work in South LA sometimes, and it’s hard to find a lunch place in this area that has more big-​chain fast-​food restaurants per square mile than any part of Los Angeles. The mom’s-and-pop’s are often very greasy as well. So I’m so happy to have found Blue Lagoon. My friend and I shared the oxtail and jerk chicken. The oxtail was very tender, and the jerk chicken very well seasoned (maybe a tad overcooked, though). The stewed beans were a little bland to my taste, and the rice a little bit mushy, but the other sides are really good. We had steamed cabbage, coleslaw and plantain for sides. (You know how slaw can be very mayonnaise-​y in most places, but not so here at all.) The price is very reasonable, too. The owners are from Belize and they’re very friendly! I’m going to call them for catering next time we have a meeting in my office in downtown, and I can’t wait to visit our office in South LA!
