Blockbuster with a Movie 14 days after due: $ 14.00 Beverly Glen Film Festival with a Movie 14 days after due: $ 68.00 Need I say more? I would rather drive to Palos Verdes for a movie then around the corner to Beverly Glen Film Festival. Blockbuster? More like Wallet Buster…

Never rent from this place!!! Could this owner be any more of a jerk? I don’t think so. I have been renting from this guy for 15 years and have NEVER lost or damaged a movie disc. A loyal customer for 15 years! I have child and we live in the neighborhood so we often go there for movies at the last minute on a Saturday night. One day I went into the store and he asked me where a movie was that we had rented was… it was not returned. I was surprised… and yet things do get lost with kids as everyone knows. So I ran home and searched everywhere. It was in my daughter’s computer… so I ran back to the store with the disc to return it. A month later I get a $ 107 charge on my credit card! I go in to talk to him about it… and while I understand that late fees were due… this was ridiculous. Surely after being a customer for 15 years we could settle on something fair. He said he called and left a message, neither my husband or I got that message… and then called me a liar, called my husband a liar, and when I said it was in my daughters computer he replied«so now you are blaming your kid?» Is this how you treat customers? RUDE beyond words. NEVERAGAIN will I give him my business.

I’m pretty good when it comes to admitting and paying for my mistakes, but I absolutely can’t stand bad customer service(e.g., being accused of things, being yelled at, denied concessions with nary a smile, etc). Unless you like those things and wish you had more of it in your life, avoid this random, hole-in-the-wall, last-bastion of «hard copy» movies(even Blockbuster has called it quits for heaven’s sake) video rental store. If I could rewind time and erase the fact that I rented a DVD from them(well my husband did) at all, I would. Long story short: Saturday night — on a whim after dinner with DH, walked in and opened an account after seeing the potbellied owner/cashier/sex offender look-alike carried BluRays and rented American Psycho. Later Sat night — tried several times to play DVD to no avail — only got a black screen(on our PS3 BluRay player that has NEVER had a problem playing anything before). Sunday afternoon — tried DVD again before going to return it and ask for our money back, and this time it worked. Sunday night — watched DVD. Having not been told about any drop-box for after-hours rentals, and since it was 1 am when we ended, decided to return on Monday. Planned on telling said owner about earlier problem with DVD. Monday evening @ 8 pm — went to return DVD to find a dark, empty and closed video store DESPITE hours being till 11 pm. Confused. No drop-box visible. Returned home with DVD. Tuesday evening — no time to go to rental store. Wednesday evening — returned DVD and as nicely and obsequiously as possible, relayed entire story including saturday night dissappointment and asked for any sort of reduction in late fee, which was now $ 15(the DVD is selling on Amazon for $ 10). Pot-bellied owner response as follows: 1. accusing our DVD player of being broken 2. accusing me of getting fingerprints all over DVD, which may have caused it not to play 3. purposely looking up the history of the DVD on some hidden computer record that he claims shows us as being the first renters(American Psycho? Really?), thereby shoving it in my face that it was my greasy fingerprints(or shitty DVD player, not sure which) that caused it not to play 4. before I even had fully asked for a concession, he said«No», «No way», «it’s not my fault» and proceeded to show me an ultra hidden drop box, did not explain why the store was closed when it shouldn’t have been, and refused to engage in further conversation. All in all, an entirely antagonistic(read: asshole) attitude when I had come in as nice as possible, fully prepared to hear a «no», just a nicer«no», considering I“m a new customer, and that I was not being at all antagonistic. If only he’d have been even SLIGHTLY nice(remember that word?) I would have left perfectly satisfied, happy, and okay to rent again. Now, however, I will not only never go there again and close my account, but I will gather up my legions to make sure no one else does either. It’s pathetic really, considering these video stores are relics and going by the wayside every day. He should realize he’s in no position to piss people off unnecessarily.
