Here’s a sandwich truck that really gives you a good filling sandwich for a good price. Will it fill you up, yes! Is it worth what they charge? I think so. Will it blow you away? Probably not, It’s just a good sandwich. I’ve tried the bacon & cheddar cheese steak and the thai chicken. Both were good, filling and left me satisfied. Would I eat there again, probably depending on what my other choices are. You won’t be knocked over by this truck, but you won’t be disappointed either.

We caught this truck out front of Angel City Brewery. I was totally excited about the Cheese Steak name, but soon became disappointed when I saw the menu and there was no cheese steak on it. Yes…a cheese steak truck that doesn’t serve cheese steaks. Or, at least for the night I was there. Weird, but as the chef on the truck explained, it’s not my truck but I’m serving food that I like. Ok… Fast fwd to later in the night when I’ve had a wee bit to drink and need to eat. We stop back on by and order up a couple items. One was a hamburger thing that really wasn’t tasty. I’ve had better stuff at McDonalds. The other item was called a Allessandro, which was pretty much a quesadilla with some sausage and cheese on top. It was decent, but again I was a wee drunk so that may have impaired my judgement. So, I can’t comment on their cheese steaks… because they didn’t sell them! But what they were selling didn’t thrill me at all…

I grew up in Baltimore, and being 90 minutes away from Philly meant Cheesesteaks were on every neighborhood sub joint menu, and there was a sub joint on literally every neighborhood corner, so I grew up on cheesesteaks and Italian Cold Cut subs. Moving out to L.A. 10 years ago, meant an adjustment away from the sub as I knew it. For fast food, in L.A. it’s all about the burger, with a burger joint on nearly every corner instead. I’m good with that, but for 10 years I have been on the hunt for great cheesesteaks. As a west side guy, I was drawn in by the first place I saw… The Great Western Hoagie place on Lincoln. Sorry, 2 thumbs down. Next up was Mike’s Philly Cheesteaks in the south bay(El Segundo and Manhattan Beach). OK, big improvement from my first stop, and next to G.W.H.E, a very good sandwich, but not a great cheesesteak. I can’t get past the fact that they precook their meat, and while good, it’s just not great. Then I found Markie D’s in Culver City. Finally, a legit Cheesesteak.(And Tastycakes!) I couldn’t figure out why they weren’t busier, and I was still trying to figure that out until the day they closed. Oh well. They were very good cheesesteaks, worthy of the word«Philly» for sure. I heard good things about South Street in Westwood. It was a drive out of the way for me, but after my first trip, and seeing their pepper bar, and the Amoroso roll, well, I was hooked, and made the trip every few weeks for a very, very good cheesesteak. Then they closed. A trend was forming. Thank God for the boom in Food Trucks, and with it, one day, out of the blue, the«South Philly Cheesesteak» truck literally showed up at my office’s doorstep. A gift from heaven. They make a great Philly cheesesteak sandwich. But they move around all the time, and I don’t often catch them. Today, I woke up craving a cheesesteak… and again, like a gift from God, found Bera’s truck… in my neighborhood of Marina Del Rey, parked at the marina… not Main St. in Venice, but 2 blocks from my house, at the marina, boatside… what’s the chance? I didn’t know what to expect, but Yahoo! I am happy to have discovered them. This is a great sandwich! I was torn between the Traditional and the Chipotle… my wife went traditional, so I tried the Chipotle Cheesteak. It was fantastic. Really wonderful roll, crispy outside but soft and airy inside, not too chewy, not too soft, perfect roll, not sure where they get it from, I will ask next time. Great flavor profile of carmelized onions, cilantro, chipotle cream sauce and cojito cheese, but the thing that separates this steak sandwich for me was the really tasty quality of the meat. They advertise it’s Angus Rib Eye, and let me tell you, it was wonderful… juicy, tender, flavorful, not chewy or thin, meaty and robust but tender as heck. Their menu is deep with like 12 different cheesteak recipes/choices. I may not stray from the Chipotle. I am hooked. Awesome flavor profile if you like a little heat. But they let the rest of the sandwich ingredients do their thing too. Mmm mmm good. I am sold. I am a fan. Try it, you will like it. I can’t wait to have another soon. My only wish is that they had fries.

I’ve been loving to try a good Philly cheese steak in LOSANGELES and then I seen that it could be found in my favorite eateries(food truck) …I couldn’t hold back from trying it I heard about BERA’S on a food truck locator website when i got to the location where they were I guess I just beat the rush because as soon as i turned to wait for my order there was a crowd of ppl waiting for there chance to experience the Custom Cheese Steak… I decided to go with the the Chipotle Philly cheese steak the sauce is what sets this sandwich off however if i were the cook i would place the sauce a little differently instead on the bottom(because if you bite the sandwich a certain way you will not taste it) but mix with the meat or put it on top and the bottom so you get it alittle bit everywhere… first experience was great second one not that good wasn’t to satisfied with my chipotle cheese steak… overall go place to try once try i don’t know would i recommend it YES =)

Meh, it was O-kay. I had the Chipotle Philly Cheesesteak. Call me picky, but I think I would have like it more if the chipotle sauce was mixed in with the meat or on top, but it was at the bottom of the sandwich. It just didn’t do it for me. My fiancée, on the other hand, had the Bacon Philly and loved it. BUT, he loves anything that has bacon on it. So take that for what you will… Prices are decent though and each Philly comes with your choice of slaw, macaroni salad, potato salad, or chips.

Traditional cheesesteak w/marinara. Fresh bread — not a huge roll, but still a hearty sandwich with enough tender, lean, juicy steak to fill me up. Generous amount of gooey melted provolone. Cole slaw was aiiight — a bit sweet, nothin’ spectacular. I wish they had white American cheese — blends better with steak, I think. Bim likes.

I had the Chipotle Philly and it was REALLY good! It’s like the Traditional, but with more flavor. It’s the requisite steak, cheese and roll but they add caramelized onions, cilantro, chipotle sauce, and cojita cheese– DELICIOUS! They’ll also add jalapenos if you ask. The ingredient quality was really good as well. And they carry Cheez Whiz– if you’re into that… Some Unilocalers think the price is a little high, but so is gasoline guys!!! I’ve noticed the newer food trucks are a little more expensive– they’re still generating business so it makes sense. It’s good food the people are friendly and next time they’re near me I plan to get seconds! :)

Good variety of different cheesesteaks. I chose the Arugula Cheese Steak. The combination of Angus rib-eye, with arugula, horseradish cream sauce, mozzarella and shaved parmesan was amazing. The ingredients were fresh and good quality. You have an option of wheat or white bread. The bread was crusty and soft which made for a perfect cheese steak. The meat was seasoned just right and not salty. I thought a half order was the right amount of food at lunch hour and it came with a side of pasta salad, potato salad or coleslaw. Two thumbs up for Bera’s.

I ate my sandwich with chicken, bacon, cheez wiz, and chipotle cream on a wheat bun and it wasn’t bad. The $ 9 price tag is a bit much to swallow, but the sandwich is filling and it comes with a tiny bag of chips. 3 ½ stars, but the girl working the line is nice, so they get extra ½ star ;)

This place was ok and used quality ingredients. However, I do think the sandwich was a little bland. A little vinegary hot sauce would have made it much better. I love you, Tapatio, but maybe you weren’t the best choice of condiment in this case. You can get a better cheesesteak at a better price at Philadelphia Sandwiches on Magnolia in North Hollywood or at South Street on N. Victory in Burbank. Viva la cheese steak!

A whole lot better than Lee’s philly. Though I have to say that the cheese steak is something that is more hyped up myth than what you end up with. This is not your typical Philly Cheese steak. But then again, who the F wants cheese whiz on their steak between two buns. What this is is California style Philly Cheese. Yeah, that will generally mean that it has some avocados in some shape or for on it. Hell, in true internet fandom fashion, they even have one that has bacon on it. I have to admit, the pork lover in me(oh how I could never really be Jewish) just loved to have that ribeye sliced and topped with bacon I liked the truck. They have my mentality when it comes to fusion. You get your base item and then you just throw other ethnic items into the mix and ta-da, you got yourself some fusion that’s at least worth a taste once. Some will fail. and I’ll be first to admit, some of the combination here do fail, but others will shine in a sort of blissful accident of mixing of two things previously unattempted. At $ 8 a full and the ability to get a half for only $ 4, it’s a whole lot more creative than most sandwich joints you can go and the whole truck has this sort of circus feel to it. Really does give the truck some character. The ability to only order half a sandwich also allows you to try a couple of different combination styles. I also like the fact that you can bring some vegetarian here and not feel like a world class douche bag. As they do have a veggie friendly«steak» sandwich. How they pull that off. Well, it’s for those who don’t like meat to enjoy, I suppose. As for me, give me some tasty angus steak in a bun with all sorts of strange toppings.

After a hearty meal from the Greasy Wiener, we decided to top off our hunger with a cheese steak. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst, what we got was somewhere in the middle. The small sized tradition cheese steak, with whiz and provolone, was a good size for the price, but failed to deliver on flavor. The meat was what ultimately let this sandwich down. It was watery, slightly stringy, and lacked seasoning. Overall, meh. 2.5 rounded down.

Decently good food, very good service. I had the Arugula Steak sandwich and was really happy with it. Thin sliced beef, juicy not greasy, with cheese, arugula, and a horseraddish sauce. I was happy to see my sandwich on a baguette instead of a long soft roll. Not typical, but I thought it was better. Service was really fast and very nice!(I asked for half wrapped to go, and half in a box and they were accomodating without giving me the«you want me to do something extra for you??» look). I waited 3 minutes for my food.

Decided to try this instead of Lee’s Philly at this month’s LA Artwalk. Ordered the full Traditional Philly Cheese Steak($ 8.99) thinking the traditional would be the staple item, but it wasn’t at all. Upon unwrapping the foil, the sandwich oozed provolone cheese and juices from the steak; however, looks can be deceiving. After my first bite, I was able to tell right away that there was no flavor ATALL. I usually enjoy my food pretty bland too, but even the caramelized onions didn’t help. I don’t know if it’s usually like this since I see plently of good reviews, but they need to throw some seasoning in the meat! The sandwich also comes with your choice of a bag of chips, their potato salad or pasta salad. The pasta salad was some kind of lemon orzo pea concoction. I think there were bits of lemon peel in it because I kept biting into something very bitter and unappetizing in every other bite. After a few bites, I brought my appetite elsewhere. Staff was friendly though.

I ordered food from this food truck for the first time last night, and I was very impressed! I have some pretty high standards when it comes to cheese steaks, and as much as I really liked this place I couldn’t give it five stars because I’ve still had better. But for a food truck cheesesteak, this place certainly exceeded my expectations. My girlfriend has tried Lee’s Philly before, and she thought that Bera’s served better cheese steaks. We tried a half of the Original Cheese Steak and a half of the Bacon and Cheese Steak. Both were good, but I’d have to say that the Original had a bit more flavor packed into it and seemed like it had more cheese. The onions were especially flavorful and probably made this sandwich as good as it was. Even though each of them were only a «half» sandwich, they were huge! Each half was almost as big as a regular cheese steak at some other places. They also had a Chipotle Cheese Steak which sounded good, but I couldn’t work up enough of an appetite to try anything else last night. The wait time after we ordered our food was very short, so this was also a big plus.

I read some of the reviews on here and they made me wonder. I’ve never written a review, but had to create an account because I feel they should get 5 stars! Service A+++ fast & friendly Food Quality A++++ beef melts in your mouth. Ordered lunch today with a group of 4… I got the bacon cheese steak and it was awesome! I thought I read on here that this truck takes a while to serve. that’s so not true, or wasn’t today. All 4 of us had our food within 10 minutes, felt like 5 minutes actually. The truck folks were friendly and call you by name. Now for the food review. One of the best cheese steaks I’ve ever eaten. I wish I had a bottomless pit for a stomach… cause I could have kept on eating if I wasn’t full. The steak is well seasoned and tender… melts in your mouth. Not stringy or chewy as I’ve experience with other cheese steak joints. The french roll was fresh and very soft. Even the side of potato salad was good. I did get the full size vs. ½ size, as I saw on here the ½ size is small. Being a female, the ½ prolly would have been enough. but I still recommend the full size. Live a little! Now my 3 coworkers also gave good reviews on the food they ordered. Chipotle Cheese Steak and the Original Cheese Steak. I will be keeping an eye out for them. It’s not cheap, will be about $ 10 for your lunch, but it’s well worth it.

My chipotle cheese steak could not have been any better. Everything about it was perfect in my book. If you like a little bit of a kick, this is the sandwich to choose. Friendly, fast service too. I’ll definitely be back.

This is a generous 3 stars! The sandwich was pretty good but I ordered a half because my normal experience with philly cheese steaks is they are good sized and I don’t need to be eating all that fatty greasiness in one portion so a half would be just right but their half might be a quarter of normal sized sandwich — it was literally 3 bites and gone. Don’t get me wrong it was tasty but at $ 5. 40 something for 3 bites that comes out to about $ 1.80 per bite not so cheap for a food truck

Finally, I am the first to review a new food truck. Bera’s Custom Cheese Steaks may be the prettiest looking Food Truck I have ever run across. I just wish I had a better meal here. Bera’s is a cheesesteak truck, and they offer eleven different sandwiches plus the option to customize your own. Everything is the same price, $ 8.99 for a full 8 inch sandwich, or $ 4.99 for a half. Yes that is expensive for such a small sandwich; even more so when you learn that, unlike most trucks where the tax is built into the menu price, Bera’s adds the tax on, so with a can of Diet Coke, and tax my order came to $ 10.96, which is actually 12 dollars because I am not going to give the lady a 4 cent tip. I ordered a large, #5 which is a Bacon Cheesesteak. According to the menu, it comes with caramelized onions. I didn’t see or taste any,(and yes I looked hard) which is too bad because the meat could have used some sort of spicing up. There was only other customer ahead of me at the LA Mart today, so I can’t blame the mix-up on the crowds. The roll was first rate, but the portions were Quizno-level skimpy, For that price, I would have expected that they pack the meat in. What I got was probably a 6 or 7 dollar sandwich(and yes that includes tax), I certainly didn’t get a $ 10.00 one. Maybe I am helping to amortize the cost of the pretty graphics on the truck. The sandwich comes with a side, choose potato salad, pasta salad or chips. I chose the pasta salad and again got a small portion of orzo, apparently devoid of seasoning. The 2 oz portion cups they served were slightly more than half full. I wish I could give these guys a better rating. They were nice people in a cute truck working hard in 105 degree heat(and I am sure it was hotter by the grill). It’s just that this is probably the worst value of the 2 dozen trucks I have tried. Also, I don’t think I caught them at a bad time, I looked at their website, and to be honest the pics of the sandwiches there don’t look very large either. «Gourmet Food Truck #26 on my never-ending quest to try every truck in So Cal»
