yes for this! This was the first time I have been, and the owner and the baked goods are amazing. I unfortunately found out that they are moving to the OC area(Costa Mesa or Huntington I think). The owner is really funny and really outgoing, he was super easy to talk to and told us that this may be the last week to be open. He said that they are planning to move to the OC, so I am making this review in hopes that he will read in and know that there are others like me that are supporting his store. The place itself is currently located in little armenia of LA on Sunset blvd. The owner was the only one working. We ordered a dozen malasadas(portuguese donuts) as what they mostly known for. A dozen cost around $ 18, which was not as expensive as I thought it would be. We ordered 6 plain ones, and 6 filled ones; 2 coconut, 2 nutella, and 2 calamansi(light citrus flavor). I just got to try the calamansi and the coconut one for now, but I was instantly in love. It was such a light and airy donut, but the filings were tasty and not overpowering. The owner was also really nice, and gave us a butter ensaymada to sample.(I’m guessing since we came there before closing). The ensaymada was also really good, sweet, but not at all heavy. I hope his new store is better than ever. We will be waiting for more!

Someone call Oprah! When I came here a few weeks ago, the owner told me about the ensalmadas and how his is the only bakery in the country making them«the right way.» I mean, I’ve never eaten one before, so I maybe I can’t the difference, but if these cheese ensalmadas are not the best ones out there, then I don’t want to be right! Jesus, it was delicious. I bought one to take home(there are heating instructions on the package), and didn’t really know what to expect until I took my first bite. Oh my word. Take like the best morning bun you’ve ever eaten – warm with pillowy-soft yeasty goodness, then add a layer of sugar to it, then top it with some sharp cheese. God help me, I thought I was going to die. This goodness should not be contained to some East Hollywood hole in the wall, though. Remember when Oprah named the red velvet cakes at Doughboys as one of her«favorite things?» I feel like if we tip her off, these cheesy, sweet scrumptious ensalmadas could end up on that list, too. So drool-worthy.

UPDATE! Just got a message from Ariston R.(owner/baker) to inform me that they are now open at 6:30AM. With that beef crossed off the list, I’m bumping it up to five stars. This bakery is small with a menu to match. They offer a small selection of baked goodies, but… One word describes this bakery’s Malasadas, delightful! Banana Bread Pudding? Yummy! The owner is the baker and he cares about what he offers. My two beefs with the spot… no. 1: They open late for bakery, so I can’t treat myself to fresh malasadas during the morning commute to work. no. 2: They sell out often, which I totally understand why although frustrating at times.

The baker is the owner here. Small spot next to thaitown. Located in a small plaza so there isn’t too much parking. The desserts here is pretty good. Although I HAD followed their instagram page… I didn’t really like how I was told to check IG for his promos instead of telling me since I was standing in front of him. I previously had asked if he had regular custard flavors on hand which he said he did but I wasn’t aware that it wasn’t a normal flavor here. Coconut sugar donuts are really good along with nutella and plain. Aside the baked stuff sold here I felt like I wasn’t too welcomed here. Although he was nice, he was also kind of whatever that we were there.

So. I was in the LA area and wanted to try this place out. Try #1: Closed for a private event. Try #2: Closed for the day. Try #3: Closed for the day. I figured… yknow what? I’ve tried 3 different times on THREE different days to give this place my money for some delicious baked goods… they obviously don’t need it. And neither do I. My advice, call ahead to see if they’re open before making the trip out there… fail.

Little gem in La. Must go and tell your friends. The owner is friendly and if you call ahead of time, your desserts will be fresh. Malasadas are so delicious, get the plain you won’t be upset.

Can I give this place a trillion stars? Forreals this place is going to be the place that I am going to recommend to errrrrrbody. Lemme tell ya why! This tiny place is located in a small plaza so street parking is the way to go. It’s a small cozy shop with two or three tables. Set up and menu is very simple. Some coffee too! I came in because I wanted to try Chef Aris’ fillipino desserts. My boyfriend is fillipino but we don’t venture too much into fillipino food. But if it’s one thing that the fillipino rock at is desserts. Here they have Sans Rival, Ube macarons(amazing!!!), and ensaymadas. I got a chance to try their malasadas freshly made to order(only after 6pm). Lemme tell you that I no longer need to go buy a plane ticket to Hawaii to get em! These were beyond amazing. Especially with the calamansi(fillipino lime) custard. But what sets this place apart and really hit me is the passion and service chef Aris gave us. He talked to us so comfortably, explained everything, and even threw in a free cookie !! Since I love baking and cooking we had so much fun talking about baking etc haha. he REALLY makes great stuff and uses high quality ingredients. He even let me smell his Tahitian vanilla bean paste. Like hellur!!! What kind of regular bakery would let you do that!!! I totally love love love this place more than anything now. Will be coming back any chance I get!

My friends from Hawaii. They have malasadas here and it’s amazing. My friends not from Hawaii. Malasadas are the best thing ever. They are fried donuts covered in sugar. We took a trip here to check this place out… I must say it was the best decision EVER. Their ensaymada is on point! And their truffle goat cheese ensaymada was OFFTHECHART. And let me tell you again that their malasadas are bomb diggity! The owner(Arris) was super nice. I felt like he was family. I will drive an hour to come here again!

Baker Cakemaker in Thaitown Los Angeles is a Filipino-inspired boutique bakeshop that makes decadent cakes for all occasions and many Filipino bakery items like Ensaymadas(the Filipino version of a French Brioche), Masaladas(a Filipino version of a Portuguese donut or a French Beignet), Sans Rizal(a Filipino version of the French Mille-Feuille), and Pan de Sal(the traditional Philippine Bread). It’s owner, Aris Rodriguez, is a Filipino and a professional Pastry Chef. Expect find a higher-end version of your traditional Philippine baked goods at Baker Cakemaker. A few tables and chairs inside this quaint bakeshop makes it an ideal place to grab an espresso and a warm Ensaymada with a 2-year old aged Welsh Cheddar Cheese or a slice of the Über Ube Cake. Or, perhaps, the very decadent Toffee Cheesecake will satisfy your sweet tooth. Pan de Sal is not always available on a daily basis. It’s recommended to call and pre-order so it is ready for you for pick-up. I personally like that Baker Cakemaker is within walking distance from Jitlada Thai Restaurant. Credit card and cash is accepted.

Love the customer service here! The owner is awesome. Very friendly and he let me sample some stuff. And gave some sample away for my mom and kid. I love the ube tiramisu and ensaymada! He was perfecting it but it was good already. So he gave us a sample of it. You just have to put some butter and yum. But it really doesn’t need it. My intention to go here was to get the ube tiramisu. It was delish but a bit pricey. They had many good stuff but I just pretty much came for the ube tiramisu. And it was a bonus to meet the owner/chef and sous chef. They were very pleasant. Oh and get a free ensaymada without cheese. But I did get that also(ensaymada special) which was heavy weight and good with butter.

When my friends and I first came in to this place, we were instantly greeted by the Chef. He told us he was working on some breakfast recipes for next week, and asked us to come inside his kitchen and see what it was. He then gave us a sample of this breakfast sandwich and it was amazing! We then ordered some of his desserts like the sans rival and macaron, and I was left speechless. They were so delicious! Every bite felt like a nostalgia of flavors from the Philippines, but with a flair. I am definitely hooked, as well as a fan. I can’t wait to come back for more. Also, make sure to check out their instagram: bakercakemaker_la for their new store schedule.

The name of the store fits Chef Aris(owner) perfectly. He’s mastered the art of baking and, his cakes are one of a kind and stellar. What truly amazes me is that he produces all these delectable goodies from scratch and that my friends, is dedication and passion for his craft. First off, his ensaymada’s are off the chain especially when they are heated up. The first time I took a bite of my ensaymada I had no choice but to let the richness of the butter, sweetness of the bread and saltiness from the cheese marry each other — it was a crazy out-of-this-world experience for me. The boyfriend and I also tasted a few other things in the bakery such as his Ube cake, Red Forrest cake, Peanut Butter Banana cake, Macarons and Chocolate Chip Cookie. All of them were amazing and as cheesy as it may sound, I definitely tasted all the love that was put into his creations. However, this is not what makes Baker Cakemaker truly impeccable. I paid him a visit when I needed a birthday cake/surprise for one of my besties. Being that I loved every cake in the store, Chef Aris made the selection process easier for me by suggesting that he make a birthday cake sampler complete with wording and cute«accessories» by using chocolate dipped strawberries and Macarons on the side. I feel that this type of service is something that I would have never found nor received had I decided to go somewhere else for my friend’s birthday cake. I have a feeling that Baker Cakemaker is going to put ensaymada’s and malasada’s on everyone’s radar(as it should be) really soon. It’s so good that it makes my half Filipino side beam with so much pride! P. S. Parking has never been a problem for me but, it could get a little tight in the complex which Baker Cakemaker is in. As with anywhere in L.A. there’s street parking if the lot gets full but please just read the street signs carefully!

We drove all the way from Orange County to check out Baker CakeMaker in LA. We had a 7-course breakfast upon entry. Of course we came here for the Donuts, Cookies, and Cream, BUT when it comes to dessert; WEDON’T DISCRIMINATE. Baker Cake Maker has the D.C.C. goods ANDMORE. READ more here: Chef Aris KNOWS his stuff! Quality goods baked with QUALITY ingredients. He even sat down with us and talked us through each item we were eating. I’ve never eaten that many sweets for breakfast. But I’ll be back REALSOON! #NoRegrets! We had goodies like his famous Special Ensaimadas, Bread Pudding, Stuffed Oreo Cookies, Food for the Gods, Malasadas AND Chocolate Chip cookies. I’m about to have SWEET dreams tonight just thinking about it. I was in LA last week and was about to stop by for some Ensaimadas, but it was LATE at night and they were closed. Next time BakerCakeMaker I will have all of the Ensaimadas! #LateNightSweetTooth

Let me just say, the power of social media should not be underestimated! After a couple of months of seeing images of pastries circulating, I finally paid a visit. Chef Aris was there and was very friendly and engaging and was cool enough to have us try his baked goods. In true Virgo fashion, let me give you a bullet point list. — Everything is baked in house meaning there is no mass production happening onsite and then delivered by a truck. What he makes is fresh and if he runs out, he runs out for the day. Maybe it is a good idea to call ahead to see if there are pastries that you were looking into getting and making sure he has them available. — Chef Aris is a trained pastry chef who worked for La Boulange. He noticed that there are many French and French-inspired bakeries serving the same items and decided that he wants to set his work apart by playing with Filipino and Asian tastes to his pastries. — The ensaymada is buttery heaven. My favorite part is the buttery«heart» in the middle. — Malasadas, Portuguese donuts, are made fresh. Now they haven’t matched up to Leonardo’s in Hawaii but they are good nonetheless. If you wanted to compare, let me stop right there and say don’t. — The macarons are yummy. One of the things that made me hesitant is the size because I feel that the bigger the marcaron is in diameter, the more it effects the texture. I loved it! All textures of crispy and chewy is there and it doesn’t crumble when you bite it. They are $ 2 each which is standard pricing for a good macaron and if you understand how difficult these are to make, you would understand why you would pay that much. — Nutella Sans Rival cake, a remix of a childhood favorite of mine! It has less buttercream that I am used to and I prefer it that way. — Bobo’s Cold Brew is amazing! BCM is the only place that sells it in LA for now and it is worth the visit! I normally drink my coffee black and let me tell you, the cold brew is so good on it’s own. No sugar or cream needed for me! — They sell beignets from 6pm-10pm, made to order! I need to come here for that. The only thing that I am bummed about is the parking. It is in Thaitown in Hollywood and parking around there tends to be hard. Something to prepare when visiting BCM.

Ran into this bakery after looking at photos on IG. Baker Cakemaker is located in Hollywood in a small plaza in the Little Armenia neighborhood. This bakery bakes Filipino inspired desserts along with the traditional American fare items. My sisters along with the rest of the family decided to check out this place for my dad’s birthday and ordered an ube cake. It’s not your traditional ube cake that you get at Red Ribbon or Leelin. It’s a chiffon cake layered with ube jam covered in an ube butter cream icing. Pretty good, light, and not too sweet. Along with that we tried the ensaymada which is a traditional sweet bread. One with a sugary butter top and the other with a white cheddar cheese. Served warm, the sugary butter top was a better than the cheddar version. Yes, a bit weird but common amongst Filipino desserts. The cheddar provides a savory sweet blend of flavors. The cookies here are actually pretty good. Fairy large in diameter, chewy and with large chunks of chocolate chips. These remind me of cookies from decades ago in the Bay Area called Laura Todd. The macarons are good too. I tried a blue chocolate one with buttercream and a surprise chocolate in the middle. Food for the Gods which is another traditional dessert is like a cookie in squares that has a brown sugar consistency with dates and walnut was good also. We also tried the ensaymada bread pudding with a white chocolate valrhona sauce. I thought this dessert would of been better if it had more egg in it. It was a bit dry on top but better on the bottom. The sauce was lightly sweet and could of used more sugar both for the bread pudding and sauce. Other items I didn’t try that looked good are the blondies, red velvet cake, sticky buns, and malasadas. They also have Coohaus and Bobo’s coffee available. The owner at Baker Cakemaker was very friendly, talented, and attentive with our large party and very accommodating. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Came on New Year’s eve and they were only open for pick-up so the pastries were a day old. He discouraged me from getting the cookies because they weren’t fresh but recommended the toffee cheesecake. It was nice that he was honest and only wanted to sell me only the freshest goods. I went back another time and had the beignets and they were better than any other beignets I’ve tried. It’s fried and has a slight chewy texture. Yummy! The ensaimada was also delicious. Had the plain one. They reminded me of yeast raised donuts which I LOVE. The macarons were also interesting. They had ube and raspberry and both were pretty good.

I can’t say enough GREATTHINGS about Baker Cakemaker it’s a Bakery that specializes in Filipino bread/pastry called Ensaimadas. they are great! and served warm to every single customer. The owner and chef is great so passionate about his work we sat there and enjoyed our pastries talking to him, we felt so welcomed and he was like that with absolutely everyone that walked in. the other treat they sell here are: «Malasadas» the Portuguese Donut famous in Hawaii, you can’t find these at very many places in L.A. and they make them here fried to order so fluffy and warm. Beignets– Friday and Saturday nights only but they are fried to order. and you CANNOT leave without trying their Chocolate Chip Cookie it’s unbelievable! warmed up for every customer soft and crispy on the outside and chocolate oozes out of it. Call ahead to place large orders and he’ll make them just a few minutes before pick up so they’re warm when you arrive WOW just Wow, Great customer service!

Is it Filipino? Is it American? Is it delicious? YES! Came here with a bunch of my foodie family on high-recommendation from my aunt and man… she wasn’t kidding! We were all so happy with our Ube Macarons, Vanilla Macarons, Ensymada Bread Pudding with Dulce de Leche sauce and Vietnamese Iced Coffee… ! I know the 6 of us probably overwhelmed the lady behind the counter but she took the time to explain what every thing was. If we hadn’t just had a big lunch, I would have ordered more… and quite sad that I only ordered 1 Ube Macaron… that’s what I get for trying to share the deliciousness with everyone else(since there was only a few left). It was amazing and had the perfect texture and flavor. And nothing was overly sweet. Well done, Baker Cakemaker! I also had the pleasure of meeting the dynamic duo behind this great bakery at the most recent Tastemade Mardi Gras event in Santa Monica and had their delicious Ensymada Beignets they were featuring that night…(okay, I had 3)… and again, amazing. Sad they’re so far! If you’re reading this, please open shop on the Westside! Salamat!

You can easily spot this place because it stands out among all the stores in the little plaza along sunset. I’ve known Aris’ pastries from the Beverly Hills Hotel but what I didn’t know was he was even better after opening his own bakery. These are my faves: Ensaymada — I prefer it with cheese… so so good. soft, fluffy bread with cheese on top. heat in the microwave for 20 sec for a trip to heaven. Chocolate Chip Cookie — take one bite of this cookie and you know that you found the one! its chewy and the choc chucks are oh so good. Bobo’s iced coffee — take it black or with cream, you can never go wrong with this iced coffee. Blondies — its like brownies that has a different color. Red velvet with mousse filling — you’ve got to try this. Choc cake with fudge filling — the cake in itself has an intense choc flavor. the fudge was a bit too sweet for my taste but over-all its ayt. There is small parking space but it can be tough at times. It’s a hit or miss when it comes to parking. I usually come in early. Prices are not your reg grocery prices but I guarantee that you can taste the above average ingredients being used.

Finally! Just what this area need! A true sign of gentrification, Baker Cakemaker offers high quality baked goods with Filipino flair! The Cheese Ensaimada is a true destination item layered with a great balance of sweet and salty flavors on a brioche bun. One of my favorite things about this place is the bottled Bobo’s Iced Coffee. Made is small batched from San Diego, BCM is the only seller in LA. It’s priced well at 4.99 for a bottle and tastes AMAZING. It’s really superior coffee that can actually last me 2 days. The owner is super friendly all the time. A really nice neighborhood bakery!
