The food was alright. The service was poor. It was very disappointing because I have heard such good things about this place but it really failed to win me over. Maybe it was just a bad day…

All of you Unilocalers were right! This place is amazing. Loved the French Toast and the biscuit sandwiches are to die for. Finishing off with a carrot cake muffin… OMG. Amelia our waitress was efficient, fun and upbeat making a great brunch even better.

Friendly staff. Quick service. Tendy/hipster spot and crowd. We ordered 2 breakfast biscuits. One with bacon and the other with sausage. Big portions. Sausage and bacon were tasty. Downfall is that I don’t think I’ve ever had a drier, non-flavorful biscuit than what I had here.

This place is hard to rate. On one hand, I love their food! On the other, service has deteriorated over time. If you visit Auntie Em’s, chances are you’ll leave with a happy tummy. However, you might also leave frustrated. I hate to say it but the service is lacking. To be fair, they are usually pretty busy but the wait times are just soooooo long. Not to mention, seats can be hard to find. It appears that they might be overwhelmed with many customers and not enough staff. My favorite dish of all time is the Chopped Italian Salad! Unfortunately, they discontinued it. So disappointing! I suppose it’s possible they put it back on the menu now but I wouldn’t know because I didn’t even bother looking for it this time around, I guess I’m still too heartbroken to even think about looking at the salad section of the menu. Ha! By the way, parking is no fun to find!

Going to Auntie Em’s for my birthday, as well as my daughter’s has been tradition since 2010. We still love it! It’s a small space and the staff is friendly. I love the quiche with the side salad. the balsamic vinaigrette is delicious. Their homemade ketchup with their breakfast potatoes(which they only serve on weekends) is a perfect combo. Good selection of sandwiches(breakfast and lunch). I have no complaints other than they need to make that Ice Box Cake all of the time! It’s made with their amazing flat chocolate chip cookies. The best thing in the world! It can be special ordered a few days in advance. My kids bought me the Auntie Em’s cookbook, which has a lot of the owner, Terri Wahl’s recipes of items on and off the menu. Finding a parking spot can be a pain but not enough to give my favorite breakfast joint a bad review. I love it here!

This place is pretty bad. Wait staff isn’t great, borderline rude, owner didn’t appear much better, and no one seemed professional or really knew what they were doing. Latte was awful. Food was bland and something I could make at home. Cupcakes were good. Don’t go here for coffee or a meal; get a cupcake and bounce

Our experience at Auntie Em’s kitchen was great. My wife and I had the breakfast torta with fresh avocado and house made salsa. We loved it and the Stumptown coffee made me feel less of a middle aged white guy from the suburbs and more like a coffee snob hipster. Cindi(My guess is with a «I» because we live in Los Angeles) was great. Side note: We got a bunch of baked goods to go, cookies, rice crispy treats and the lemon ricotta cake didn’t make the ride home.

Tried auntie em’s again. This time for a take out order. No one said hi, or acknowledged me at all. Forget it. I’m done. This place is horrible and rude. Highland Café is way better service.

Terrible customer service. I walked in with an order that I had already called to place, then they tell me when I get there that it isn’t in stock. Also, It takes probably 15 minutes to speak to someone even if there isn’t anyone else in line.

I mean the food is good. Every time we go there the first thing they tell me is «oh we’re sold out …»(Most of main dishes) I serious don’t understand why u guys don’t tell people before they sit down and order the drink. I kind of piss off Coz it’s a tinny restaurant and always sold out off stuff.

Bad service, gave me anxiety. Wasn’t sure if they’d remember to take our order. Had the French toast and it came out completely fried. Couldn’t see the bread. I almost sent it back and I wish I would have. My stomach can’t take anything completely fried. After a few hours I was sorry came out both ends. Never again. Sorry.

My new pet peeve is when they claim to have fresh squeezed orange juice and have it not be fresh. They do not squeeze their orange juice. They buy it «fresh» and then serve it days later?! FALSEADVERTISING. I will not stand for this orange juice tyranny. Also I witnessed a woman burn latte milk. Just stray from the drinks. Food was good.

Five stars for the red velvet cupcakes. I haven’t actually eaten a meal here but the red velvet cupcakes are well worth the time it will take you to hunt a parking space.

So sad that a place you really loved goes BAD. That is what happens when a company expands without the ability to keep standards up. Here is what happened to us this Thanksgiving. After not getting a pumpkin pie one year and this year getting a baby pumpkin pie and sweet potatoes that were yellow(which is the starchy kind, less sweet) we do not ever want to purchase nor recommend Auntie Em’s. Disappointed and disillusioned. Hunting for a better holiday dinner!

Today I went back to this place and it was actually already closed, but the person was really nice and let me in. I’m changing my review because that was really nice of them to do and most places wouldn’t do that. So kudos to them it’s much appreciated and I got my treats.

I finally make it to this place with a good friend for brunch. It lived up to all of my expectations over a long breakfast of eggs Italian sausage and a chocolate bread pudding. The service is very proficient and cute and very endearing. The toughest part of the whole brunch was choosing what to eat I think I will need to return. The only downside is the parking which is hellish let’s go with it.

Visited Auntie Em’s kitchen yesterday for the first time. Had the apple pie pancakes and they were delicious. There were the best pancakes I have ever eaten. Coffee is solid and the service was excellent. Really a 5 start breakfast. So why 3 stars? I went back today with my daughter. She had the steel cut oatmeal with bananas, brown sugar and cream. It was delicious. We also had a side of breakfast potatoes to share. They were okay but, nothing out of the ordinary. I ordered the biscuit sandwich that was recommended. Egg, Havarti cheese, apple wood smoked bacon. Looked delicious. I tried to take a bite and the biscuit was so hard it started to crumble. I opened the paper wrapped around and it was already broken in 2 other places. Okay I will eat it with a fork. The problem here is that biscuit was so hard I could not chew or bite. I mentioned this to the server and she apologized and walked away. I ate some of the egg and the bacon. When it came time to pay I mentioned that the kitchen needed to know. She told me the bakers were gone(so this was made yesterday) and she mentioned it to one of the cooks. When I was paying she mentioned it to the manager. The bill came to $ 31.00. No one offered to take the biscuit off the bill. I did not ask but, was very surprised that«I’m sorry» was the best they could do. I left a decent tip after all they share the tips.

Auntie Em’s will always hold a special place in my heart, i used to live a block away when I first moved to LA and came here all the time. Maybe it’s just the nostalgia, but I do think they were better in the past and aren’t quite what they used to be. They used to have more lunch specials on weekdays, which I really liked and a little bit better service. Though I still really like eating here. The brunch and lunch are the reason to come here. I love their meatloaf, either as an open faced breakfast sandwich or as a lunch sandwich. The tuna melt and the BLAST are also really great. On the weekends they have lots of specials which is nice. I do wish they served breakfast longer during the weekdays, maybe until 1:30 instead of 11:30. They are very well known for their cupcakes and they do live up to the hype, and all of their baked goods are great. I love the lemon bars and the seasonal crisps. The self service coffee bar is also nice, and I like the little shop in the front. One problem I have noticed recently, during lunch on weekdays, is that it can be very hard to get the servers attention, especially if you sit outside. They don’t really have anyone who seats you, which is fine, if the servers actually make the rounds. The last few times I’ve come I had to go inside and flag someone down after waiting ten plus minutes to try and order.

Tasted Auntie Em’s pastries after my wife ordered them. I thought they were very tasty and of good variety. Definitely one of the better places to get pastries in the area(would recommend). Haven’t tried their regular food yet.

I came for the quiche… we walked in, it’s cute. It’s the afternoon, about 1:30p. The guy seats us and immediately tell us they’re only doing lunch right now. Okay, fine. Looking at the lunch menu, «quiche of the day» we ask about it. It says to ask server for today’s ingredients. We do so, he smiles and says«we’re sold out»… We order drinks, the espresso is good but my friends drink is watered down. So we leave. This place sucks.

You can’t get anymore chill than this place. Very nice & homely place to eat. The unlimited coffee is a plus for me. The place makes you feel right at home. It’s like visiting a close friends place. This was my second visit here while it was my gf’s first. Coffee is aplenty which you can get by helping yourself at the coffee corner. I ordered the Three Eggs with Toast & Caramelized Bacon. She ordered the Open Faced Pulled Pork Sandwich, & Eggs. For our dessert we had the Dark Chocolate Chip Cookie. The food is nothing exceptional, but it does make you feel that you’re right at home. Although I must say, the dark chocolate cookie was killer! Also the portions they serve here are generous. I can’t help not to love this place!

They’re known for their cupcakes. I didn’t get their cupcakes. That might have partly been the issue. I had the raspberry peach crisp. My favorite thing about a crisp is the dry crumb on top that gives a nice crunchy contrast to the soft fruit beneath. This crisp was a bit over cooked underneath and the crisp was doughy. Not something I’d like to try again. The chocolate chip cookie on the other hand was great. Flat disk of chocolate and brown sugar baked to a nice crisp. They thing I like about these types of cookies are the slight toffee texture with a bit of a chew but crunchy. They also had a small variety of cookbooks, a few(probably most) from food bloggers. They carry stumptown coffee, which is becoming a trend as of late. Let’s see if Peet’s can keep the momentum going. They’re greeting card selection was nice for the foodie in your life. The service, a bit slow. While our server went to warm up our desserts, two people came and left because no one was there to man the register. There were a couple employees passing by the register though they had no intention of helping either customer. After bringing items to the counter one lady ended up putting them back before leaving.

Auntie Em and her helpers were very busy when I stopped in here. They may have been dealing with a flying monkey issue in the kitchen but they apparently got it straightened out. I checked in at the front and let them know I was sitting outside. It took almost 10 minutes to get waited on and the table cleared. The coffee was self-serve but they were out and had to brew more. But things improved. The food arrived. I forget the name of the item I had but it was eggs scrambled with mozzarella over fresh basil and heirloom tomatoes drizzled in a balsamic glaze… not a combo I would have thought of but it worked wonderfully. I ordered bacon on the side. Oh the bacon. The bacon. I will dream of that bacon. I would come back just for the bacon. The unique atmosphere and friendly folks were a bonus. Bottom line — Auntie Em has heart, brains and the courage to throw together unusual foods into a great dish.

So good we came 2 days in a row. Kids ordered pancakes. So cute. They make them in different shapes and make faces with the fruit. Syrup is REAL. Not that substitute stuff you get at chain pancake houses. Biscuit breakfast sandwich was so filling. I saved ½ for lunch. The biscuit was so fluffy. Definitely made with love. Also had the pulled pork and eggs. That was hefty too. Pork had lots of flavor, sweet and savory.

Wanted to try out brunch at this place, since I am all about breakfast! We waited about 30 minutes to be seated, about 5 minutes for someone to take our order and another 20 minutes to receive our food. We were talking to this nice couple outside while waiting to be called. They have been coming here every Sunday for a few months so we took some of their recommendations. We settled on the following: 1. Honey Orange French toast — I love that it came with bananas, boysenberries, and strawberries. The syrup came in a cute soda bottle. It was lightly sprinkled with powdered sugar. Unfortunately, I have had better French toast and my mind was not blown with this dish. It was okay. 2. Pulled pork with eggs with French bread — it came with a small side of mole sauce and salsa. The pork was lacking that smokey flavor which I always look for in pork dishes. The French bread was a little too thick for my liking. This dish was also just okay, in my opinion. 3. Orange juice — freshly squeezed 4. Mini red velvet cupcakes — moist and the cream was not too sweet. Definitely worth coming back for those since they are legendary! 5. Crinkles cookies — chewy and delicious The service is amazing here. The staff are always smiling and more than willing to help. Parking is street, so prepare to walk a little if you can not find anything close.
