Let’s just say your better off waiting at one of the other better place on this street. We were hungry and I had my eyes set on Ramen. I really wanted one of the other four places on this street but they were all really packed and the wait time was one hour plus. This place was packed inside with two patrons waiting for a table outside so we tried it out. I’m sorry to say it was mediocre at best. I ordered the tan tan mein and it was pretty flavorless. It had a small clump of meat and no egg and the mein was like from the package you buy at the market for a dollar. My friend ordered the Soyou and she was not a happy camper either. Service was speedy overall. If your not a foodie and your just in the area to fill your tummy I’d recommend this place otherwise their is a host of other place that are so much better in a mile radius of this place.

I love all the Asahi’s Kimchi dishes. Since their Kimchi is fresh and delicious I try different kimchi dishes like Kimch ramen, Mabo kimchi ramen, kimchi rice and kimchi dumpling all the time. I can’t think of other dishes here. When it comes to the Kimchi second to none. I will be your loyal customer Asahi thanks.

The portions are large. My girlfriend and I ordered chashu ramen with spicy miso soup and a yakisoba, and we couldn’t finish half the dish of yakisoba. The spicy miso soups broth and ramen is pretty good, not as good as neighboring ramen shops, but definitely good bang for the buck. The chashu itself is not fatty and not as tasty. The yakisoba was pretty bland unfortunately despite its savory looks. The spicy miso chashu ramen and yakisoba came out to be 25.50 with tax and tips. Considering I can get two bowls of ramen for probably just a couple bucks more from neighboring ramen shop, I’d say I’ll probably just stick with daikokuya next time. The great thing about Asahi is the lack of a line though. Sit down and you can order pretty much immediately. The food was served quickly and the service was commendable.

This place is not only the best bang for your buck in Sawtelle Japantown, they straight hook it up at this spot. I really enjoy their Chashu Ramen extra noodles so much I dream about it ;) gotta get my fix at least 1 every other week. I’ve also tried their Mabo Tofu(Bombs), Curry Rice(Yummy) and Spicy Seafood Ramen(not for the faint of Heart). Everythang I’ve ordered the portion were very hefty. I not only come for the food. The employee here are very generous. They always greet me with a smile that makes me feel very comfortable here. I can honestly say that I’m gonna be a loyal customer for as long as I live :) One day I will bring my kids here to enjoy all the goodness of Asahi Ramen.

Tanmen miso with tofu is even more great if you add vegetable spinach as a appetizer. The best ramen place!

I’m here 2 to 3 times a week. They make me feel at home and the food makes me feel like I’m in heaven. If you live Ramen try it. They give you free pickles that are super yummy!!! It’s not pricey at all and the portions are filling !!!

This is the only ramen that both my husband and I liked. We don’t usually eat ramen, only on cold, lazy days. We went to the area to try a dessert place but didn’t have lunch yet. We wanted a quick and inexpensive lunch. This was the only place where we didn’t have to wait. I had the ramen in soy sauce broth– chashu, if I remember correctly, and my husband had the yakisoba. The serving is huge. We could’ve shared the ramen or the yakisoba. We both enjoyed the food, especially the ramen. Service was good. Although we had to wait little longer for our food. Place is small, so it might be tough if you’re in a big group. Overall, I would definitely eat at this place again.

When you are craving a gigantic bowl of steaming ramen… this is the place! Fast and simple. We like the mabo ramen, yakisoba and tanmen ramen. Service is excellent so parking a few blocks away is no problem. The ramen here does not compare to any we’ve had(even himuras saimen in kauai!) They have a lot of competition along Sawtelle, but they remain our favorite!

2.5 stars Parking: street parking. Prices: average ramen prices(~$ 9 – 10) Food: I got the kimchi ramen and it was okay. The broth is a lot lighter than what they have at other places. They pack in a lot of meat, but the meat seemed a bit overcooked. The noodles are okay. The kimchi was good, but that was about it. Nothing spectacular. I probably won’t be back here…

If all of your ramen spots on Sawtelle are too crowded, Asahi Ramen will welcome you with open arms. Located a little further down(north) on Sawtelle, Asahi is never crowded and you’ll be sure to find a table if you don’t want to wait for Tatsu, Tsujita or Daikokuya. However, with that said, there’s a reason why people aren’t flocking to Asahi and rather to the restaurants I just mentioned… the ramen here isn’t as good. For the amount of people in the restaurant(not many), the service was quite slow. It took a solid 15 – 20 minutes for our food to come out. I don’t know why there was a delay… Anyhow, I ordered a chashu ramen with spicy miso broth. The broth was mediocre and didn’t have any qualities that stood out to me as mouthwatering. The noodles were cooked well, al-dente. I just wish the broth was better. The chashu was extremely soft. You barely pick it up with your chopsticks and it breaks in half. This is a very average bowl of ramen you are getting. If I’m starving and wouldn’t want to wait, then I’d think about coming to Asahi… otherwise, I’d go elsewhere on Sawtelle for ramen.

This place has really gone downhill over the years. The broth has gone from a stronger, rich flavor to a much more watered down sampling. I would describe it as more of a phò broth now. With so many excellent choices on Sawtelle, you can find a better experience a stone throw away.

Asahi Ramen is a small Japanese restaurant that specializes in Ramen bowls. I have been there twice and it has been good thus far. The menu is fairly inexpensive at about $ 6 – 8 per item, and the portions are very large — plus, you have the option of getting a larger bowl for an extra dollar. The food itself is very good. I am not an expert on Japanese noodles, so I usually take one of my Japanese friends with me as an indicator of how good the ramen is. I can say that these noodles are very good just from trying it out. I also highly suggest getting a side order of the panfried potstickers — these dumplings are excellent. Note that parking can be hard, especially around 6 – 7PM around this area.

How is it possible that nothing changes. I’ve been coming here for ages, and every single time it’s absolutely amazing. What a feat – for a restaurant to be able to maintain consistency in quality for so many years. Get the Tanmen Chicken and add extra tofu. You won’t be sorry…

Ambiance: small and convenient ramen store, in business for about 30 years Service: fast and provided useful suggestion Food: after eating their food, get vey thirsty, might due to msg Fried rice — *** regular size with pork, light taste Chashu Ramen — *** a lot meat, overlooked, hard to chew, ramen was just ok Price: cheap, expect $ 10~$ 15 each person

A solid 3 star ramen place. Came here for lunch around 1:30 pm on a Saturday and the place wasn’t busy at all. Compared to the other ramen joints on Sawtelle you might even say this place was deserted. It’s hard to imagine that at some point in the past this place was poppin’(according to my cousin). Guess they couldn’t keep up with the competition. I ordered the miso ramen and thought it was a solid bowl of ramen but nothing special. Definitely would prefer eating over waiting 30+ minutes at the other places on the same street. The service was friendly and they tried to accommodate a person at my table’s low-no carb diet(lol, gave him a bunch of cucumbers instead of rice). I rarely find myself in this area so I will definitely try a different ramen place before ever coming back.

First of all folks, they now take Visa/Master for anything over $ 15! Pretty much everything here is roughly $ 8 to $ 10 for ramen. We ordered the wonton ramen, seafoof ramen and the tanmen ramen with an appetizer of ban ban ji. Everything is simply just like what a soup ramen would taste like. They have many other flavors, but ramen is ramen. You either love it or meh… There are other rice dishes that we didn’t try, but I am sure they are a-ok. If you just want a quick ramen meal, this is a good place to go. The place is nothing fancy, but you do get a very big bowl of ramen noodles soup with good flavors. Parking can be tough at times, but folks, this is Sawtelle W. LA, what do you expect? I am sure if Sawtelle was not a happening place to go, you wouldn’t go there, right?

Spicy seafood ramen. Yum. I’ve had this dish twice from asahi, both times so different. They could use some consistency… It was so good last time, and reminded me of Korean Cham-ppong, I was craving it and drove the far drive to get my bowl of spicy seafood ramen. Sadly, it was so salty this time it was difficult to eat. I love my salt. Don’t get me wrong. But this was extremely salty. Otherwise, the service is attentive, the noodles are the perfect hardness and the broth is rich. Best part is that there is rarely a wait these days to get in :) quenches my ramen craving enough to hold me over till next time!
