Amalia’s restaurant was not what we were expecting at all. My family and I were expecting more authentic Guatemalan food and that is not what we got. My sister had previously gone to their location on Virgil and raved about this place so we were expecting the most. First off our order took about 30 minutes to arrive to our table, on top of that the chicken was dry, the beans tasted greasy, and the server forgot about one of our orders(there were at most 15 people including our party of 8 in the restaurant). The service was terrible, our server never brought back refills on any of our drinks until we asked for them, we waited for about half an hour to receive our bill which we had to go and ask the server for. Overall I WOULDNOT recommend Amalia’s restaurant, definitely not going back.

I loved the old place on Virgil but this one under delivered. The food was different and not as tasty. The chorizos had no flavor. My Carne asada plate was meh. The highlight was my orchata. The service was spotty. I won’t be going back…

Good service and the food was ready pretty fast even when it was mother day. Piña and Jamaican juice are bomb.

This was my first time eating at the new location. I frequently visited Amalia’s off Virgil for the past five years, and its difficult to tell this is the same restaurant. The brand is the same, but the food, service, and options aren’t nearly on par with the original. First off, I used to love their tamales, but this time around the tamale looked lopsided, tiny, and sad plus didn’t taste all that great. After the appetizer, we waited over 30 min to be served the wrong food(intended for the people at a different table). When our food finally did come, the portions were tiny and not worth the price. They also don’t serve alcohol at this new location(no license). In the end I spent about twice what this place was worth. Won’t be coming back unless major changes happen.

FALSEADVERTISEMENT: restaurant promotes specials and items on menu that are not yet«available.» Better location but service was not the same nor the food. My experience at the new location was not the best. Previous location preferred. Food had same huge price yet small portions were given. Previous restaurant location bigger portions were served. I believe new Management has ruined this restaurant. At first I placed an order for a beer which was denied due to the restaurant not having their license for liquor. Yet the menu displayed happy hour specials etc. Being that it was denied I ordered a Coke. The waiter then proceed to notify me of can soda for the moment, which I did not mind being that the menu displayed«free re-fills» on Soda. That was FALSE the waiter charged me for ONE can soda $ 2.25. If I wanted a refill it will be another $ 2.25 for ONE can soda. We then received our 22 $ sampler plate which was a very small portion compared to the original location. Again new management. Bottom line: OVERPRICED, FALSEADVERTISEMENT, SMALLPORTIONSFORHIGHPRICE.

First time eating real Latin food and it was great! I did not order but someone that I am very close with ordered for me(he is from south america) and he ordered a steak with some type of soup smothered on it. Rice with Bean paste was awesome combination sides. I will definitely go back again! Thank you Susie!
