Small place. Coffee is pretty good(perfect for Instagram). Other than that, nothing extraordinary. A little too hipster and pretentious for my taste.

After visiting Alfred in Silverlake, I officially have completed going to every Alfred location in Los Angeles. Normally I go to the original Alfred on Melrose place but I was having a coffee with a friend who resides in Silverlake so we thought that we’d keep it local. I love my lattes, usually hot, but on occasion I will grab an iced latte. If you want to try an «Alfred favorite» I highly highly recommend trying an Iced Vanilla Latte. Very delicious! The perfect amount of Vanilla, which is great because Im not fond of drinks that are too sweet. Loved the décor, loved the layout, and the staff is as friendly as ever. Once again, Alfred Coffee never ceases to amaze me. Also, they are opening up an Alfred Tea on Melrose place and I will definitely be adding that to my bookmark! They’re usually very busy but I do recommend micheltorena stairs is right across from Alfred.

No complaints with the coffee. But this is Silverlake. You have to do better than that, when there’s a coffee shop on every block. The seating here is terrible. And the baristas are pretentious. Also, this stuff is expensive.

Even I am guilty of being drawn to Alfred’s mainly for the great photo op! HOWEVER. This place as well as a good chunk of Silverlake is currently being overtaken by hipsters. It is exactly what you think it is. Overpriced coffee, beautifully decorated walls(including their famous«But first, coffee» sign), & limited seating. COFFEE: When overwhelmed by what to drink, iced vanilla or mocha lattes will be your safest bet in whatever coffeeshop you visit. Easy order, easy make, & yes. Does well for photos. Alfred’s Silverlake fared well for their vanilla latte with almond milk! However, there are other vanilla lattes with better prices all over LA. Bonus: They do sell pressed juicery here too! Heads up: — Silverlake parking is not the most fun parking. But manage what you can! — They don’t have tons of pastries but fear not, food trucks & eateries are up and down that street.

Hipster heaven complete with a mustache wall. If Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie had a cousin who served coffee, this would be it. This coffee shop is super cozy and cute, with some limited outdoor seating on a patio. I imagine this would be packed on the weekend, but it was empty on a Tuesday afternoon. I had an iced hazelnut latte which was amazing. It’s a little overpriced, so I would only come here as a treat yo’self type of thing. Or if my Instagram needs another coffee photo. I’ll definitely be back with a book or laptop next time to sit outside.

BUTFIRST, a stop to a pricey, über hipster coffee shop on Sunset Blvd. Yes, as the reviews say, the parking sucks(what else is new in LA) but I made the wise decision to go at 8:15 in the morning on a Monday after the holiday, & thank the heavens there was practically nobody there. I found a spot on the street(it’s not free– I recommend a quarter) and went inside, and it was like stepping into someone’s Instagram feed. The two bearded, male baristas were all really nice and helpful since it was my first time, and they gave me a sample of their special cold brew since apparently it’s the most popular thing there. The drink went down pretty smooth, but I don’t like the bitter taste of cold brew, so I stuck with my usual — a classic chai tea latte, my usual at coffee shops. It was good. Not the best I ever had, but definitely better than Starbucks(even though I continually go to Starbucks, because I’ve grown accustomed /addicted to their taste). Frothy and hot and tasted like a good, classic chai. I don’t know if I’d make the effort up Sunset Blvd again just to get expensive, Instagram-worthy coffee, but I’m certainly glad I’ve tried it at least once!

How do you know coffee is around? Definitely when you find a giant crowd of hipsters outside a tiny little hole in the wall along Sunset in Silverlake! There was even a food truck directly outside to fit the ambiance! I’ve seen Alfred coffee before, and finally was the in the area to drop by for morning coffee. They source Stumptown for their roasts of choice. The place was super packed, and there wasn’t much room to move around or sit. Coffee was alright, but nothing really stood out.

Been dying to try Alfred coffee since forever. So when they opened one up in Silverlake, I was excited to finally try it. Upon entering the shop, you will notice a small patio area filled with people using their laptops. Once you enter, there’s only one table available inside. Being a total newcomer, I had no idea what to order. So I just opt’d for what I thought would be good. I ordered a 16oz iced vanilla latte with whole milk($ 4.50). It was pretty tasty but nothing really special. A bit on the pricier side too. Hence, it was $ 1.50 to add an extra shot… No thanks! My sister ordered a 16oz iced Americano($ 3) and she hated it. She complained that the coffee tasted sour. They also have pastries on the side as well as a fridge with pressed juices. Overall though, I wouldn’t travel out of my way to come back here. Being that it is located in Silverlake, parking can be a tad difficult too.

They’ve opened the bathroom!!! Woohoo! The coffee shop its self is super cute, buttt parking is a huge bitch. I love that they serve stumptown coffee, but ive been here a few times and it’s the same every time… mostly a cup of ice and three sips of coffee. So disappointing, especially for the price. They do have a few pastry choice, juice served here and a few things from café gratitude which I love. All in all, I like this place, it could just be better.

Very beard-centric. Small space with a few tight tables outside. A decent collection of baked goods. Oh, and coffee. Friendly folks who are more than happy to help you get the best coffee for your coffee fix. Solid americano and cappuccino.

This is a mini version of the one on Melrose Place. Parking can be tricky as it’s typical L.A. street parking. Few seating options outside. Cute floral and mustache wallpaper and an awesome«But first, coffee.» neon sign. Honestly, the sign is what did it for me. And the chocolate hazelnut danish.

If there was ever a hipster coffee place to epitomize the area, it’s Alfred’s. The floral wallpaper, the mustache wall, and the neon sign all scream to be Instagrammed. And honestly, that’s how I found out about this place to begin with. So many LA bloggers post pictures of the coffee here! The location is very small, and early on a weekday it was already pretty packed. Definitely not a place to come and get hours of work done. But grabbing an over-priced super trendy coffee drink with a friend? That’s what this place is for. I’m not the coffee-obsessed type, but the chai latte from here did make me super happy. And I’ll probably be back soon for another(and another Instagram picture). Note: the super simple menu is deceiving. There are maybe ten drinks, one price next to each in a minimalistic list. I thought I’d blend right in, confidently ordering a chai latte at the counter, but I was hit with tons of questions! Small or large? Hot or cold? What kind of milk? Soy, almond, non-fat, or regular? So prepare yourself for a few more options than the menu presents with.

While I appreciate their coffee, this place is almost on the border of too perfect — maybe they’re just a little late to arrive in the area, to where most coffee shops are very similar(and hence the audience, jaded). It’s almost like the Urban Outfitters of coffee — the formula is FORMULAIC. Mustache wall, trendy neon sign, perfect selection of knick knacks and instagrammable backgrounds. Maybe I’m too old or pretentious, but I am a little turned off by the very same gimmick that seems to earn it great hype. Also the area, while very nice to walk around in, is almost the worst place to park in Silverlake during the weekends. Beware the casual run in for a cold brew, if you’re in a hurry to stop and go — would think about going somewhere with a friendlier parking sitch.

A Silver Lake Coffee Shop™ of the highest order. It’s got a nice atmosphere, it’s in a great location, and the baristas are super-friendly. That’s about where the excitement ends, though, because it also boasts $ 5 weak-ass iced chai lattes, an utterly overdone mustache motif and insanely cramped patio seating. #overit #wakemeupwhenthe4thwavecomes

So this place rocks. The décor is so on point it’s ridiculous. Pretty much every twenty year olds dream coffee shop. And an Instagram Mecca. I got an iced chai latte and a butter croissant. Literally the best chai latte I’ve had in my whole life.(And that’s a lot of chai lattes friends.) The shop is in a killer location next to Lark and Hache. This little corner just really had there game stepped up. side note: I viewed RetroSuperFuture a block away after getting my fix, and the girl working was referring Alfred to a lost group of girls. Pretty rad they’ve been open 5 days and already are praised by their neighbors. It’s sad Heywood is no more. But Alfred is a hella good replacement.

My first time at Alfred’s was at the Melrose location and I had a good experience, but this location just did not do it for me. Very cute coffee shop– with the cute wallpaper, coffee cup holders, and decorations. Parking was very scarce and hard to find. They do not have a menu– it’s more interactive where they tell you the menu if you ask. They have standard coffees, ect ad well as a $ 10 drink. In the refrigerator they have some packaged foods from Café Gratitude, some drinks from Pressed Juicery and Juice Served Here, along with some other items in case you want something in the go. My order: I ordered an iced chai with regular milk. It had to be the second worst chai latte I have ever had. It was literally a splash of chai with milk. The drink had barely any color to it and looked like a cup of milk and had a very minuet flavor of chai to it. It was really disappointing and not worth the money or drive.

You ever walk into a coffee shop and they just stare at you? Like you’re from a distant planet and they’re confused as to why you have walked in their doors? And you have to think really hard to yourself, «Why DID I walk through these doors, should I go? I should go.» That could have been Alfred today. I walked in and was a little confused on where to order, do I order over the espresso machine or do I walk around to the other side. If I walk around to the other side, then I’m IN, I’ve committed, but what if they stare at me? Oh God. Oh God I’m stuck. But Alfred… They knew. They were on to me. They knew I wanted coffee and they wanted to give me coffee. It’s like we were on the same page as to why we both existed. They did not have a menu, but no worries, they were nice to answer questions and not be snobs about their answers. I asked if they had cold brew and they said«yes we have this and this, would you like to sample one» instead of a «yup» or «duh» as if I was dumb for asking. The outside seating area is small, but nice that they offer it. Sunset Blvd isn’t the quietest street in the morning or on trash day, but the patio was well shaded by a tree. I think I made a new friend today and their name is Alfred, nice to meet you Alfred.

I honestly could not tell you why or how it’s taken me this long to review Alfred Coffee when it’s hands down one of my favorite coffee shops in El-Ayy(the flagship on Melrose, of course) – with that being said, however, I should also disclose that I come to Alfred Coffee for their – wait for it – for their tea. I know, say what? The shame, but it’s the truth and you wouldn’t have asked for it if you couldn’t have handled it. I would make the journey all the way to the west side for a sip of that white coconut tea. Addictive personality, you say? Who, me? Well, I’m not denying it, because again, it’s true. The White Coconut Tea(by Art of Tea) at Alfred’s is easily one of the best teas I’ve had in my life, and I am by no means a dramatic person. It’s light, crisp, and especially refreshing on days the sun decides to bless us with a heavy beating. The coconut doesn’t taste at all artificial, which is a huge issue I have with most coconut teas on the market. In fact, the tea actually feels as hydrating as coconut water, despite the fact that tea is a diuretic, and paired with the lightness of the white tea, it’s honestly the perfect pick me up on a slow, dreary, and lethargic afternoon. Aside from my clear addiction, the Alfred Coffee in Silverlake also stocks a variety of juices, Farmshop pastries, local granolas, as well as a few prepackaged meals from Café Gratitude. In other words, it’s a one stop shop for all the LA native«essentials». Not only can you eat and drink all well and good at Alfred, but you can also look good doing it because the aesthetics here(as well as any of the other locations) are absolutely on point. Alfred Coffee is essentially THAT friend in the group that’s always insta-ready – the one that can never take a bad photo regardless of the timing or angle. Ultimately, it’s a great addition to Silverlake – a beautiful place ready to be filled with beautiful people eating beautiful food and drinking beautiful dranks? What more can you ask for? Like I said, why I haven’t reviewed this little glory sooner beats the hell out of me…

This was my first time being here and I must say, I am very much a fan of what they offer here. I stopped by with a friend while she was on her lunch break and I was happy to see that this place was open and fun. According to their barista, they«don’t have a menu» but more of an interactive menu with the barista. I ordered a Stumptown cold brew and it comes with a little cream. On the side of the store by the door, they have the sugars, and cream. They have a great selection of juices and salads. The only downfall about their stuff here is that because they are more well known and I’m guessing pretty popular, they have a latte that is $ 10. That’s just way too much for steamed milk and expresso.
