I was so happy to learn that Alfred Coffee is now offering Café Gratitude signature dishes, such as the kelp noodles with pesto, raw falafel wrap and more! Great to have such delicious, plant-based options in Brentwood.

One word: AMAZING. For so long I was not a coffee lover. However, I had seen Alfred and the famous«But first, coffee» phrase all over my Instagram and heard such amazing reviews from my peers– that I decided to give it a whirl. I was not only satisfied with my experience, but extremely impressed. Upon walking in, I was blown away by the oh-so aesthetically pleasing design. Shortly after, I was greeted and treated wonderfully by the amazing staff. I ordered my vanilla late and upon receiving it, realized I forgot to ask for decaf. Graciously, the staff member made me a new one and even double checked if I was satisfied. After tasting my beverage, satisfied was an understatement! All I have to say is that I am not one to make a Unilocal review for every superb establishment I discover, but it would be a disservice if I didn’t share my amazing experience with the world!

I’m the rare Angeleno who hates coffee shops, yet somehow Alfred has won me over. We’ve no shortage of coffee places here in Brentwood. Within a mile of my house there are 2 Coffee Beans, 1 Peets, 1 Starbucks, and the only one that matters, Alfred. The shop is small, but that’s part of it’s charm. The décor is pleasing to the eyes and instagram ready. Everything here is branded, even the fresh coconuts. If you go at a peak time, expect to wait in line. I usually go after 9:30AM and there is little to no wait. The baristas are always very friendly and helpful. They have some great indulgent menu choices like the espresso shot served in a chocolate covered mini waffle cone, the $ 10 Espresso(made with Pressed Juicery’s Chocolate Almond Milk a.k.a nectar of the gods), and delicious nitro brew. It can sometimes be tough to find street parking, but they do offer valet.

The baristas here are awesome!!! TIP your delivery driver if they go wait in line, get your $ 10 latte, and then rush it over to you. $ 3 should be a min tip for a delivery… Maybe we can enjoy a sweet, delicious $ 10 latte too. Don’t be like the one jerk who lives down the street

$ 20 for a bottle of juice and a turkey avocado sandwich. I had a $ 10 gift card so I thought I’d try the place out. I have not tried the coffee but I’m not sure I will. The place seems just ok but I think I will go to Whole Foods around the corner next time. I did enjoy the outdoor seating tho

I was very disappointed with this place. I have heard of Alfred coffee for years and i had high expectations. The location was small and there was no parking. The traffic surrounding the shop was horrendous. The coffee was overpriced. The only highlight: if you order a house coffee, they give you one free refill.

I’m only giving it 2 stars because I do love me some stumptown coffee… but this is why I will never go back to this stupid place. I go there for the first time the other day… order 2 nitro cold brews(menu says $ 4.50). Then the chick pouring it asks if we want ice. We asked for a little in one. When she rang us up one of them rang up for $ 5.50. So I asked… why is one $ 1 more? And she says because it has no Ice so you’re getting more coffee. What in the freaking world kind of BS is that? AND… no where does it say that on the menu. Whatever with this place… I’ll get my stumptown elsewhere where I usually NEVER get Ice and NOR am I charged $ 1 more for that.

Big fan of their cold brew. Simple & delicious. Considering all of the other chain coffee options around, Alfred is a refreshing option. It’s also really awesome how they coined the saying, «But first, coffee». I also love all the succulents on the patio and around the shop! Great place for meeting with friends.

The people here are really nice. I was awkward and didn’t know what to get and they helped me out. The barista even made a fancy latte for me with a beautiful design. I highly recommend coming here and trying their latte. It is very smooth and creamy.

If you like strong coffee, then Alfred is your place. Cute and quaint coffee shop that can provide you the jolt Yo get you through your day. Parking is relatively easy with street and valet parking as an option. Usually a short line when I go but worth the wait. I highly recommend the blueberry muffin. Love Alfred coffee… Tailor-made for the true coffee drinker.

Cute little coffee shop! I got a vanilla latte and it was very good. They also sell juices from pressed juicery, which is a plus! Only downside is parking was hard to find as the location is high with traffic and limited parking spaces available.

Cute, small location with plenty of outdoor seating. Coffee was great, as with other Alfred Coffees. Service was also excellent. Only giving it 4 stars because I noticed that the floor was very dirty. I understand that there’s a lot of traffic at this particular location, but I was a little put off by the dirty floors. With the place being so dirty, it probably wouldn’t take more than 3 minutes to clean it up.

It’s a great spot to chill with a friend, but not so much to study or work — reason being: there is almost no indoor seating, there isn’t much shelter either so it could be very sunny and very windy — not a very great environment to work, but a great place to just chill. Tried different types of coffees here before, espresso in a waffle cone is my favorite but I went with the matcha(green tea) latte($ 5) this time — to my complete surprise — unlike Starbucks or other places, they actually add so little(or none) sugar into the latte — it gives such a real taste of matcha and I fell in love with it. Right next to a flower shop it is amazing, this place is also 10 mins walking distance from Compartes, unlike the Alfreds in Melrose that is right inside the coffee shop. Would recommend trying this place, when you are close to the area. If not, stick to the one in Melrose.

Alfred is such a cute little coffee joint. It’s not the most conducive place for studying or doing work because there is no indoor seating area. However, it has a nice outdoor patio that serves as a perfect pit stop. I tend to swing by on the weekends after going on a run or hitting up the Sunday farmer’s market and it’s always full of people. The coffee is great. I’ve tried the nitro before but prefer the cold brew. I take my coffee black without sugar and can taste a huge difference between Alfred’s coffee and the coffee served by some of the other cafes in the neighborhood. The macchiato served in the chocolate dipped cone is delicious too. I hate spending a lot on coffee, especially if it isn’t any good. Alfred, while a little on the expensive side, is well worth it. I’m a fan!

5 stars because I can’t get enough of the coconut ice green tea. I am not a coffee drinker so I never know what to get when my friends want to meet for coffee, but alfreds has given tea lovers an option they’ll go coco for! I also love their pastries, particularly their pumpkin muffin and their blueberry muffin. The Brentwood location isn’t really a place to come and do work because there isn’t indoor comfortable seating and outside can sometimes be windy and loud. there aren’t really laptop outlets either. I would suggest coming here for a quick pit stop or pick me up. Meetings are good too. They offer valet, but street parking is available too if you’re lucky!

This little coffee shop offers the best atmosphere for a study sesh, vacation planning, or even catching up with an old/new friend. The patio is adorable and the corner is always hopping on the weekend with active Brentwood-ians. As for the coffee — Stumptown is amazing but after doing a blind taste test of coffee from shops around LA, I’m sad to say it’s not always worth the penny you pay. Perhaps it was a bad brew I had, but overall i’ve frequented better crafted cups before. Overall if you’re in the neighborhood and looking for a lovely place to pass the time, something a step up more than your local Starbucks, this is definitely the place to go!

Going to an independant coffee shop always seems like a good idea; you’re supporting a local small business and there is usually something they try to do differently than the big chains. Sadly I don’t always have the best luck at small shops… its either more gimmick than flavor, more pretense than I’m looking for or more expensive than the big chains, so I don’t do it often. At Alfred, I’m happy to report that none of these issues came into play. Service was friendly, coffee was good, and prices weren’t THAT much higher. The shop is tiny, but tables along the outside are ample. They do have a few unique items on the menu, but they have the standards as well. No pretentious concoctions or limited accoutrements for your cup of joe. Another plus is the easy parking along San Vicente and walkability to a few cute shops for a leisurely afternoon.

Talk about a caffein buzz. I come here when I need a serious pick me up. Never a dull moment in the creativity of coffee, or the tastiness. The pastry treats are mouth watering, as well. The place is cute, small and quaint, with tables outside, perfect to people watch in Brentwood. They also sell juices and small healthy bites, which is convenient for being on the go. And they validate the valet parking right behind the building for 15 mins.(Otherwise parking is rough, walk there if you’re local).

Finally a coffee shop which uses coffee beans that aren’t bitter! I ordered the iced caramel latte and was pleasantly surprised to find it was just mildly sweet and the coffee flavor was not overpowering. Alfred’s makes independent coffee shops look good. Keep up the good work!

I came for the macchiato shot in a waffle cone, checked in for the 12 ounce drip coffee, and threw in one of their kitschy greeting cards because I couldn’t resist. It’s an adorable store with their motto«But First, Coffee» emblazoned across mugs, aprons, t-shirts… you name it! There’s a simple menu serving Stumptown Coffee, so you know it’s good. There’s a patio area with a handful of tables and seats outside for the Brentwood crowd of hip moms and middle-aged joggers. If you’re here for the Instagram, get the macchiato shot in a waffle cone. It tastes like espresso to me, so I can’t even imagine how much more caffeine there is in the espresso shot version — but I’m willing to find out. Definitely coming back to try more of their drinks!

Can we talk about how much I love this place? I love a good cup of coffee and Alfred delivers! I ordered an americano with 1⁄3 steamed almond milk. So good! They use Stumptown coffee, which explains why it’s so delicious. Alfred is also known for their famous nitro brew coffee. Note to self: order this next time. In addition, they carry juices by Pressed Juicery, Health-Ade kombucha, pastries by Farmshop, Compartes Chocolates, and plenty of other local goodies. Don’t forget to check in on Unilocal for a free 12 oz Alfred blend coffee. I tried this blend and it was great. Very bold flavor! No need for milk. I also bought a cute little camper mug with their famous, «But first, coffee» logo. Not going to lie, it’s pretty much my motto too. Thanks for keeping this coffee addict sane, Alfred!
