Typically, when I’m here, I go for the«Poke Bowl» or the«Chirashi Sushi». They’re both raw fish served over sushi rice. The differences(visually) is in the preparation. The fish in «Poke Bowl» are cut into bite size chunks where the fish in Chirashi Sushi are thinly cut. Both are very healthy. As for portion size? Just enough not to go into food coma. Highly recommend both. –Rachel :)

A girlfriend and I came here based off pricing and proximity, and I am extremely satisfied with the food, costs, and service. While it was crowded and we had to wait for about 10 min for a table(and 10 min more for our food), the staff was friendly and I felt welcome even resembling a younger age. Many Japanese and Korean diners were among us, in addition to Caucasian and Hispanic. My friend’s salmon and squid looked fresh and clear, and the rice is not overly mushy or seasoned. For 14 pieces I paid $ 8, and it tasted great. Definitely coming back.

If you’re looking for a Japanese meal under $ 10, this is a good choice. However, depending on what you order, the level of authenticity varies. The first time I went here, I had chicken teriyaki and tempura. The teriyaki sauce tasted like it may have been from the bottle and was just poured over the chicken rather than the chicken being cooked in the teriyaki. The tempura batter wasn’t as fluffy, crispy, and light as the most authentic Japanese restaurants. However, it was not the completely dense, «fish and chips» type of preparation either, which I appreciated. During my second trip, I ordered the beef sukiyaki bowl. I was a bit taken aback by the presentation. I was expecting the typical sukiyaki, with all the veggies, noodles, and meats separated in one shallow bowl and rice served in a separate bowl. However, I received a bowl of all the contents of sukiyaki already all mixed together over rice. Maybe I should have suspected this would be the case since on the menu, the sukiyaki was located in the same section as the rice bowls such as oyako don. After this initial surprise, however, I have to say I really enjoyed this dish. Despite the different presentation, the taste was that of comfort home cooked sukiyaki. Service can be slow even when the restaurant is fairly empty. This is where I think the business would be smart to serve miso soup with the meals — a practice that is pretty standard across Japanese restaurants. Not only would this make the wait for the main meal seem shorter, but it would also increase the overall feeling of a true Japanese meal.

Reasonably priced, excellent, authentic, fresh. Some creative non-traditional rolls, but all the classics are available and great udon. Won’t go wrong.

We’ve been coming here for years through Sango’s various incarnations, it was once a sit-down restaurant and now it’s order at the counter, put your number on the table. Food is reliably good and presented nicely. Good to hear Japanese being spoken behind the counter as well as Spanish and English :) We come here regularly and are never disappointed. I love the tempura udon, and all the sushi.

This is the authentic Japanese food I grew up on. The Katsudon is EXACTLY how my Mom made it(she’s from Tokyo) and many of the other dishes, the flavoring and the presentation is all her. Like another Unilocaler pointed out this is not a place for ‘faux Japanese foodies’, this is an authentic Japanese food restaurant not a cool sushi roll of the day type of place. We love coming here and the service is always par excellence!

Close and value priced. I can’t say that it is anything to get excited about. Another one of my favorite spots that has been sliding in quality. Old oil in the fryer and packaged Udon were my last two disappointments. I would not mind a fair increase in price if the quality returned. A lot of older Japanese folks are regulars here. One of the few Japanese restaurants that is Japanese operated. If you like daikon as a garnish, they still have it but you will have to ask at the counter. They no longer have it out for self serve.

This is very authentic sushi place, however the atmosphere leaves much to be desired. Appears to not have been remodeled since the late 80’s, with its plastic flowers and oil paintings on the walls. The food is decently priced with $ 2 draft beer. Service could be more prompt and concise, but I feel that this is a family business, with just some hired help. Enjoyed the beef udon soup. And the also have very nice food presentation as well. Visit for yourself during lunch and you won’t be disappointed. Hope this helps!

Great place, fast service, excellent prices. will definitely be back with coworkers! I had the veg udon bowl as I was feeling like I was coming down with a cold or flu and it helped get rid of it! I’ve had the sushi here before too and it fresh and yummy? I do think they are pretty authentic.

FYI to those who prefer«Americanized Sushi», this is not the place for you. Please do not come here to be disappointed and then leave a 1-star review because they do not serve«Sake-bombs» or «Jalapeño Cream Cheese rolls» like most Korean and White owned local sushi places. This place does not cater to the 20-something hipster sushi crowd who want to take selfies with their food. This place is a real Japanese-owned restaurant that serves family style meals at a decent price. The sushi is not going to be on the level of Japanese places in Costa Mesa, Gardena or Downtown but its authentic and its cheap. The bentos, curries, katsus and other non-sushi dinner items are also excellent and authentic. Be prepared for a wait if you go during peak dinner hours as it is usually pretty crowded with the local Japanese elderly or families.

This place has by far the best Sushi in the area. The one thing that bums me out about this place is that I have been here three times in the past two months and every time they have given me the wrong sushi. I don’t know what is going on with their system but 0 for 3 is pretty bad. The taste keeps me around though. Just double check your order if you get it to go!

I only get their Udon with vegetable tempura. It is delicious and reasonably priced. The service is always polite and friendly!

This is my favorite Japanese take-out restaurant. The owner is Japanese so I can trust their Japanese dishes they serve. Battera sushi(boxed mackerel sushi) is one of my favorites. I’ve tried saba(mackerel) sushi at many other sushi restaurants but this battera sushi is really special. The food is always ready when I pick it up. The cashier and the staff are friendly and efficient. The place is not very big but is very clean. I will definitely keep going back to this place!

Located in a nondescript shopping strip center— I had my worries I was looking for real soba — I called several locations recommended by Unilocal of restaurants claiming that serve soba — — all Unilocal references unfortunately false –except this one How does Unilocal blow that? The test is either Japanese actually serving the food and in this case yes — — but not the sushi bar They offer soba hot or cold with different meats Predictably they were heavy on the Temporel was too much batter – but the soba excellent served cold and I will return again And the prices it’s embarrassing this is the least amount I paid for lunch in this area since I’ve been here for six months

Laid-back atmosphere with home-style cooking, Sango offers traditional Japanese comfort food at a low price. I enjoyed my Sango bento, and my son eagerly ate from my entrée. He finished the snake roll himself. My wife loved her beef curry.

Price is a bit on a $$ sign and not $. Kabuki would have been a better choice with the same price.

Delicious sushi for a reasonable price. Not so much a HUGE variety on the menu, but if you’re looking for an authentic-tasting roll or udon, this is the place. I usually order take out because it’s a tight spot that’s always packed! However, they’ve never gotten my order wrong(and sometimes they’re big). Some of their items are lacking in amount of fish given, including the Chrirashi Bowl and Poke Bowl. But I highly recommend the rolls.

So I haven’t been here in like seven years and honestly it may take another seven years for me to return. The place isn’t bad like it’s clean and sanitary, little like spills here and there. The employees weren’t rude or nice, they were just kinda there haha. It was so cold in there too and oh btw if you have Verizon… you’ll be lucky if you get good reception. My bars went from no service to two bars, so go outside if you need to make a text or call. There wasn’t any like special deals going on and I was really craving poki, so naturally I got the poki bowl. However it was more like a vegetarian bowl with lots of lots of cucumbers. And I hate cucumbers but you know that was my fault for not asking what was in it. I guess like the one good thing about it was they put all different types of fish in there but they were small pieces and the whole thing tastes like cucumber. They have a pretty long wait time, I felt bad because I got my food way before others and you can tell people were hungry. I was on the verge of giving this place a 2 star but they really didn’t deserve that low of a rating but I would definitely say like 2.6 stars. It’s just not yeah, like in sure there are other places around that you can try, so make sure to use Unilocal prior to coming here!

This place presents exactly what it promises: A simple experience with food that is rather tasty and very affordable. The staff was quite nice and didn’t even mind that my friend and I were taking up room after they closed. Though, I wouldn’t recommend staying after closing as a course of action. Food came out in a timely manner and included quite a large serving for the $ 10 that I paid for our two meals. COLLEGESTUDENTS: Let it be known this is a great place to grab an affordable meal on your ever-decreasing budget. :(but :)

Decent place for decently priced sushi. Their sushi roll selection is not that big. most of the rolls they have are basic sushi rolls – california roll with something on top. We wanted to venture away from that so we ordered the Laguna Niguel Roll & the Huntington Beach roll. They also have bowls, combos, bento boxes, udon, and yakisoba. We ordered the beef yakisoba to share. FOOD: Laguna Niguel roll: Probably my favorite thing we ordered. The pieces are huge and they come wrapped with cucumber on the outside. I don’t like cucumbers so I peeled mine off and handed them to my boyfriend to eat. The roll came with salmon, tuna, avocado, sweet egg, & I believe imitation crab. Order it. You won’t regret it. Huntington Beach Roll: It was okay. The roll came topped with sweet shrimp, salmon & avocado. Can’t remember what was inside. The entire thing came out covered in green onions though. it was a bit overwhelming and I wasnt a fan of the sauce they added to it :(I just liked it because they had place fat pieces of salmon ontop of the roll. Beef Yakisoba: My boyfriend really liked it, but I thought it was whatevers. I wouldnt order it again if I had the choice. There was an odd taste to it. like semi sweet but it just tasted a little off. I mainly picked out the beef pieces and veggies lol. Overall. like I said, for the price. it’s decent. All 3 items came out to be about $ 25 – which isnt that bad. Next time, I’d probably go with the sushi/sashimi combos or bento boxes. Oh, and it’s kind of confusing if you’ve never been here before. You walk in expecting to get seated, but there is no waiter service. You order up at the front, they hand you a number and you seat yourselves. When the food is ready, they bring it out to you — just a heads up :)
