We stayed at the Salt Fork Lodge over the Memorial Day weekend and it was great. For a state park lodge, the amenities were very nice. The lodge itself is very rustic with tons of windows and lots of nice, cozy seating areas including a great lounge in front of a huge stone fireplace. There’s an indoor pool(which we didn’t use because the weather was great). And an outdoor pool, with a concession stand, kiddie pool, lots of outdoor patio seating, etc. We had a first floor room that opened onto a patio right by the playground, which was great for the kids! The room itself was fine. It’s no luxury hotel, but it was perfectly comfortable and clean. The restaurant at the lodge is average. It’s managed by Xanterra, so I was expecting it to be cafeteria-like. It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. Average would describe it best. Not horrible, but definitely not memorable. They do offer a carry-out menu that we took advantage of twice, in order to sit out on the patio. All in all, it was a great experience and we would definitely go back.

This is a lodge at a state park. The park is huge and beautiful. The cabin. was OK. It was clean and warm and had hot water so I am definitely not complaining, especially since it was the first weekend of nights with temps below freezing this year. However for around $ 200 a night, I would at least like a comfortable bed. Now I know this might seem like asking a lot for a cabin in the woods, but… well I guess I’m just spoiled. I really want nothing to do with tent camping so this was my friends’ and my compromise. I would come here again, but I think it would be more fun if it were a little warmer. The hikes would be more fun and might be able to enjoy the water a bit more.
