Just finished taking the«Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine» class with Emma. She’s a very knowledgeable and thorough in her instructions and descriptions, and is very pleasant. I highly recommend this class. In addition, the supplies that I needed to buy for the class were reasonably priced. Overall, a great experience!

The Tin Thimble in Loomis California is a textile lovers dream. Located northeast of Sacramento, I highly recommend a visit. Yesterday I took a one day class, Botanical Imprinting on Fabric taught by Sharon Mansfield. Sharon has done so much research with local plants and is happy to share her expertise, with step by step instructions and a positive encouraging teaching style. The Tin Thimble has a great studio space for classes and a store front in a wonderful old packing shed. The store has all the supplies you need and you won’t want to miss it. Its like a museum, store, and school all in one. I am always inspired and they keep the merchandise and artwork fresh and interesting. We dyed silk, silk wool blends, and silk linen blends. All the bundles were gorgeous and I thoroughly enjoyed the class. Look forward to returning for more classes.

The Tin Thimble is great for finding funky fabrics, and vintage patterns. I never walk out of this place without finding something that I have to have(even if it is just a fat quarter, or two, or three). When you are visiting the High Hand Nursery in Loomis, then stop by and take a look. If you sew, chances are you will not be able to walk out of this store without dropping some cash.

Went here hoping to find some yarn for a knitting project. They have skeins of expensive handspun yarn but not what I was looking for. I looked at their fiber for spinning and it was set up for felters, smaller amount at a higher price per oz. Even the fabric selection was not large enough to have something to tempt me. They do have a lot of vintage lace and buttons. This store is what is described, a little bit of everything, but not enough for a serious crafter. They really focus on wet felting, if that is your thing then this is your store.

The Tin Thimble is full of high quality fabric bolts, buttons, yarn, patterns, antique machines, sewing notions of all kinds, etc. Lovely items that I can’t wait to explore(buy) even more! The store is set up with lots of shelves that form little rooms, but they all open into the main walkway. In the back of the store, we were greeted by Emma, one of the store owners. She is incredibly helpful and very friendly. She quickly assisted the other customers who were shopping, as she gave me a listing of all the classes they teach at the store. I was very impressed that she knew the customer’s names and greeted them with a cheery smile. She helped me choose which classes to take based on my level of sewing knowledge. She also recommended a local sewing machine repair shop for my friend’s machine. I really appreciated Emma’s expertise regarding the whole sewing industry. While I visisted, a Nuno felting class was being taught. Emma informed me that Nuno is an agitation technique of combining raw wool onto silk or cotton fabrics to make new pieces. To get more details on this, you will have to visit the shop and ask Emma. The ladies in the class seemed to be having a really fun time, who knows, I might just end up taking a class on Nuno felting next. I can’t say enough wonderful things about The Tin Thimble. Please take some time and visit it, I know you’ll love it!
