Mzm Auto Transmissions

Things aren’t always what they seem. Small details, after the passage of time often begin to paint a picture of an alternate view on the same set of facts when such seemingly small events, which once seemed inconsequential, recreates a larger, yet clearer, picture. Being responsible for my initial review of Mzm therefore imposes on my conscience a need to expose all future revelations based on the initial fact-​set as laid out below:
The man initially road-​testing my transmission-​impaired auto exited the vehicle quickly and immediately whispered something in the proprietor’s ear, and my telling him that prior computer diagnoses revealed the rotor as a possible defect elicited his pulling his head back in surprise while otherwise ignoring my comment, although the transmission was pretty much in the «conked out» stage anyway. However, possibly because I wandered around for a half an hour in search of lunch (the corner deli had a very buttery shells-​and-​chicken dish, which, perhaps being my first meal of the day and for no other reason, caused some stomach reaction, but at least it tasted homie in the sense that it was something I would have cooked for myself given a similar paucity of ingredients), I never actually saw a transmission being lowered from my vehicle, and another, a replacement, being lifted back up in exchange. There was a lot of milling around underneath my vehicle while it was on the lift, with very little if any work actually being done that I noticed at those few intervals between smokes that I would look, except for a lot of poking up into the transmission while the pan was removed and some group discussion, as if a complicated problem needed fine adjustments (as might have APPEARED during the final stage of the fine-​tuning of the first atomic bomb assembled by Robert Oppenheimer’s crew in the Manhattan Project.) This went on for 5 long hours, and the appearance of having difficulty is something I’ve experienced often in car repairs — it’s a hustle; the purpose being to increase the tip. The guy on 47^th St in Manhattan, who changed my oil 2 weeks before, once said he’d gotten a visit by the proprietor of the Queens transmission repair shop, Mzm. That other Manhattan mechanic told me that the oil smelled burnt, even though it didn’t smell very bad to me, but I had him change the transmission oil anyway and I noticed his poking around up into the transmission while the pan was off.
Two weeks later the transmission skipped badly, and the bill came to $ 950 + tax at Mzm… Mzm might have simply undid damage that the other guy in Manhattan did. That happened to me a few years ago when an outfit called Queenstar in Long Island City threw off my wheel alignment and sent me to their friends at Ram’s Alignment, on Northern Blvd, who fixed it back the way it had been, with extremely little effort.

I just returned from that other repair shop in Manhattan (6÷20÷10), New Gutrat, on 47^th Street between 11^th and 12^th Avenues, one of the few general auto shops you can trust (if you stay attentive, watch what they do, and know enough not to let them talk you into unneeded repairs, and you are able to see that they they are not stealing or vandalizing your good parts) in Manhattan.
It seems that, upon thorough questioning of 2 other experienced mechanics at New Gutrat general auto repair on 47^th St. in Manhattan, I learned that the mere act of changing the transmission fluid is, paradoxically, one of the most hazardous things you can do to many transmissions. However, they confessed to knowing and having dealings with Mzm’s proprietor, who, indeed, seems to get around!
My transmission problems began when I took my car to the Manhattan Ford dealership to have the transmission fluid «flushed,» a procedure that can damage some of the sensitive gears and sensors within — especially if done by vandals. The engine immediately began to surge and stall, but slowly began to right itself after I had the «throttle body» replaced. However, it became vulnerable, supposedly, to the transmission fluid change, the counter-​intuitive need for non-​action an impulse of which I failed to resist (if, that is, I wasn’t successfully tricked into believing a lot of bullsh*t, since I am prone to believing people are honest — usually to my detriment). With that proviso, CAUTIOUSLY, I chalk up my loss of discipline on the counter-​intuitive need to not change the transmission fluid, after the faulty flush, as the cause for the transmission failure; but there is a major LACK of checks and balances between the 2 primary repair shops mentioned in this review (a former auditor’s caveat).

5 years later: they message me for a change; but other reviewer confirms my suspicions… character defects… lying, cheating, stealing… anti-Americanism…so I restore 1-star…1 too many!

Don’t make the mistake of going to this place… they will lie to you and steal your money. I recently went there and my car was misdiagnosed and I was told the transmission was shot… but it wasn’t. Went to the dealer and they told me that there was nothing wrong with the tranny, but what was wrong was something¼ of the price.
Do yourself a favor, if there is something major wrong with your car, take it to the dealer and get a full diagnostic. Then take it to your mechanic. If your mechanic tells you to replace the tranny, don’t go to MZM… they are thieves!!!
