this place is a gem. with all the chain and what not in this area — this is the real deal. people are nice, food is good — perhaps 5 stars is extreme but there are few places in LB that can compare. oh, and chopped ice in the ice tea. heaven.

Me and my grandpa went here because we were near the queen Mary ship. Let me say, the atmosphere of this place is just awesome, amazing friendly waitresses! They were very interactive too, not just ones who smile and walk by. I ended up getting the breakfast burritos, which at 9.95 I thought was pricey. TOTALLY worth it. Not only did it fill me up enough to pass up lunch, it came with 2 freshly ground avocados(and your Californians know how expensive avocados are!) I was very impressed with the whole experience. My only slight complaint would be that the eggs weren’t seasoned. If I ever end up in long beach again, I’m definitely ordering the stuffed pancakes.

Good food :) we had the pancakes and the potato roll. Both were really good. Service was just ok. Would return

The Potholder Café is one of the best breakfast options in Downtown Long Beach near the convention center and Pine Street for early morning eating. I’d recommend coming before 10am on the weekend mornings if not even earlier to avoid having to wait in line for a table, and if there’s a wait, consider sitting at the counter on a barstool for faster service, especially if you’re alone or coming as a couple. The prices are fair and portions are of good quantity and food of good solid quality. I had the Chicken Fried Steak(sort of a ground beef or chopped sirloin type beef), which was excellent. I do want to come back to try their corned beef hash plate, and although the waitress told me the corned beef hash was not homemade and came out of a can, I actually love Mary’s Kitchen and Libby’s canned Corned Beef Hash over most restaurants homemade versions of the dish, so don’t object at all at that prospect.

If you want a great breakfast. Nice atmosphere. Good service. This is the place to go. You get a lot. For your money. On Thursday. It’s. Double. Day. You get larger portions. For same price. I’ve been there a dozen times. Plan going back again. Enjoy.

It’s time I review my favorite breakfast place. I’ve tried about 5 different plates here, and none have disappointed. My favorite is the couch. You get a little bit of everything, hot cakes, eggs, sausage, taters. It’s both adult and family friendly. They have dishes for the kids, and booze for the adults. Bottomless mimosas on Saturdays. There is almost always a crowd so you wanna get there before mass is over otherwise you’ll be waiting for 20 minutes. But it is worth the wait. The portions are huge, you’ll have enough for lunch later.

The home fries that came with my omelette were crispy and delicious. Can’t believe I ate the entire huge serving of them! Talk about choices — I can’t believe how many omelette varieties were on the menu. They offer homemade biscuit as a bread choice. The omelette I ordered had fresh tomato, spinach, black olives and feta cheese. But the feta cheese was just sprinkled on top and wasn’t the really good creamy feta like I had at the Omelette Inn. While I completely enjoyed the breakfast here at Potholder Too, if you compare it to the Omelette Inn on Pine Street the quality of ingredients at Omelette Inn is one step above – with the better feta and the fresh fruit side dish. That said, Potholder won’t disappoint you. They have great portion sizes with a very friendly atmosphere and a proud, hard working staff.

How I’ve gone my this long living in LB and haven’t had breakfast here is beyond me! Those spuds are AMAZING! So delicious and flavorful! First time here and had the couch. It was the best option to get a feel for their food and menu. Like I said the spuds are the specialty especially with some bacon! Yummmmm!

I would give this 5 stars if it wasnt for our server. We have come here a lot and have never had problem… except for the two times we had one particular server… hispanic lady w/accent dark long hair. Our entire meal she never checked on us or anything. All the other servers are very helpful and a young girl took our drink order right away… but our actual server basically did nothing. We had to ask another server for refills and to check on our food. The food is excellent, but its annoying to have to bother other servers to actually get some help. We went 2⁄8 around 9:30 am… first table on patio by the door… my husband and myself… we wrote a note on our bill.

Recommend this place for breakfast or lunch. They close earlier than other places so check hours. I suggest the Mr. potato head if you like potatoes and a filling breakfast. It comes with potatoes, chicken, egg, cheese and topped with avocado. This restaurant offers indoor seating as well as outdoor tables. Located on the corner of Broadway and Cedar in downtown Long Beach. You can also call for pick up. The first time I went the food was awesome, but the service was slow. The second time I went again the food was awesome, but the cashier over charged me– he politely corrected it after I told him about it. Overall, good food, nice people, check out the pictures on the walls and history of PotHolders. After breakfast take a walk to downtown, walk around Broadway and Pine Ave.

Yummy! Good restaurant with a variety of options. Came here with a group & all the dishes looked good. We ordered the French toast & the flintstone French toast dipped in fruity pebbles they both were real good. The super spuds were the bomb! One of our friends got the Mac daddy Frankie which comes with a 18″ pancake which was huge & served on a pizza platter lol.

When I first came into the restaurant I was standing in front of the counter and there were several staff standing in front of my friend and I holding their on solid conversation for minutes without heaven looking up to acknowledge that there was a customer in existence. Not a «one moment please» or «I will be right with you». I have worked in customer service for many years and poor customer service is something I do not tolerate. Especially if this is my first time at the establishment. So I made it known that I am waiting on them to finish their conversation and if I can be asked for my party amount, menu, and to be seated when they were finished. I was immediately seated. And I already had it in my mind how this Unilocal review was going to go. But the service quickly was turned around and the excellent food made my opinion do a complete 360. The manager even came to my table to check up on things(I think they got the hint) Other than that this is a nice establishment with great food. The best brunch spot that I have had so far since my new residency here in the LBC. Looking forward to coming back hungry!!! I want to give 4.5 stars but maybe half stars will be available on a future app update lol.

Another breakfast place in Long Beach… an original brunch chain. They serve the quintessential huge American breakfast: big egg and avocado filled omelettes, lots of bacon, bottomless drinks, big waffles, fat toast, lots of cheap syrup and ketchup. They’ve also picked up on the buzz word trend and mark their menu appropriately: gluten free, sustainable, vegan, healthy… This place is meh. It’s certainly not a «king,» unique, or special in any way. The food is big. The service is bad and the staff seemed to not care, which is why we only gave them 2-stars.

Potholder has hit a deep pothole — a serious decline of 2 stars. The coffee is still good at $ 2.95 albeit not hot on this Monday. Our regularly-attentive server, Dennis topped-off the mugs with a just-brewed pot of hazelnut — my guest & I were drinking non flavored coffee. Excuse #1 — the flavor was retained in the filter. Huh? The gluten free pancakes are normally very-good, they are listed as Option #5 «Gluten Free Fruity Pancakes(1) $ 5.95;(2) $ 7.95;(3) $ 9.95″ — not cheap but a healthy option,» Blueberries and bananas inside and fresh strawberries on top.” What’s wrong with the accompanying photos? Bananas & Strawberries on top and under cooked pancake. No butter topping was requested, as plain butter may be gluten-free, but many butters have additives that contain gluten. Excuse #2 — the fruit is served on top(the menu is wrong) and the kitchen didn’t read Dennis’s slip? Major slip up today, and no manager(Allie) on duty. The syrup was requested to be omitted, and no sooner my request, two dripping decanters were brought to the table by a food runner. Communication? Evidently, I was not communicating effectively. Wait, is it me, their Duke? The side of turkey bacon, just did me in: Made me stop trying to rectify my dining experience. I quit due«cold turkey», yup the four strips were refrigerator-cold. A grilled turkey patty was substituted. The fresh-squeezed orange juice is good, and cold($ 3.25) and Dennis irrepressible. The two pancakes were void, still the bill was over $ 30.00 for two diners. This morning(July 27, 2015) Potholder hit a pothole.

Considering my experience at The Potholder Café’s other location on East Broadway, I’m much more impressed with this Downtown Long Beach Location on West Broadway. For starters, I like the layout much better. There’s one entrance and a host station in the front. Less confusing than the East Broadway location where you enter through the front door and a waitress barks at you to check in at a different entrance. Sigh! No one is barking at us in Downtown Long Beach though. The service is very friendly, even if there is less than an hour ’til closing, they are inviting you to come in. As they clean up the other tables around you, they don’t rush you to leave. Although, it would be polite for customers to wrap it up so they can close :) The first time we had a late lunch here, we didn’t even realize that they close in the middle of the day. It wasn’t until my second visit when I noticed the hours posted. But like I said, the waitress invited me to come in and relax. She even recognized me from my last visit. Potholder Café gets points for having a small vegan-friendly menu. I’ve had the Vegan Benedict at the East Broadway location and it was okay. However, since coming to this location, I’ve discovered the deliciousness that are the Vegan Burritos. Tofu, green peppers, mushrooms, and tomatoes wrapped in tortilla, topped with red sauce and avocado slices. Yum!!! It also comes with a side of potatoes but I like to sub it for tomato slices. One of my interns also ordered from the vegan menu. He seemed to enjoy the Veggie Spuds. It’s a plateful of potatoes, sautéed spinach, mushrooms, red onions, green peppers, green onions, tomatoes and avocado. Legit vegan options in Downtown Long Beach. It’s especially convenient if I’m spending time across the street at the Main Library. However, if you’re not already parked at the Civic Center parking structure, Potholder Café has free parking in the small lot on Cedar Ave. behind the restaurant in between the restaurant and the church. If the lot is full, there’s plenty street meters nearby.
