In 1963, the National conference of Community and Justice, created a L.A. branch that included Long Beach as a sub-chapter of the organization. Starting primarily as an honoring organization with events such as the Humanitarian Awards Dinner, CCEJ has come a long way. Formally becoming an independent organization in 2005. It now consists of several programs, that include Building Bridges, Restorative Justice programs and Community Human Relations Education. Each program, provides experiential education in human relations, conflict resolution, effective communication and leadership. These programs are truly helping youth explore and understand racial, social and cultural dynamics in a safe space. They are also aiming to end the school-to-prison pipeline by providing schools with an alternative to suspension and expulsion and positive alternatives for school discipline. CCEJ is helping to build safe communities that more fully include all people.
