Matthew Long, DO

Dr. Long is the very best doctor I’ve seen in years. He has a refreshing point of view, is highly knowledgeable, and takes the time with his patients. You always get the feeling he truly cares about your welfare. He takes his time with your appointment, yet I’ve never had to wait too long in the waiting room. I call this efficient. I would highly recommend Dr. Long to anyone seeking a primary care doctor. I have PPO insurance, but still go to Dr. Long for most of my medical needs. I had back surgery last year from another doctor, but chose Dr. Long as my doctor for follow up. He was wonderful during the transition and continues to be wonderful. Good doctors are hard to find. This one is a gem.

Since I chose to see this doctor based off of all five star Unilocal reviews, I decided I should write one myself. I saw Dr. Long in July due to stomach issues I was having. It had gotten so bad I went to the urgent care at the same facility and it was discovered I had a bacterial infection. Dr. Long was the doctor I saw for follow up. Since I had never been there before, they did a full physical for a new patient. Without going into extreme details, Dr. Long jumped to immediate conclusions about me, and ignored and obviously didn’t believe me when I told him facts. I get it that people lie, but it’s extremely frustrating when Doctors choose to always believe it’s a lie, instead of listening to the patient. In terms of my stomach he told me to avoid foods that cause heartburn and to keep a diary of the foods I eat and when I get heartburn. The problem with that was I never said I had heartburn, because I didn’t have heartburn. This was another conclusion he jumped to because I told him I had been diagnosed with an ulcer about ten years previously and prescribed prescription Prilosec for it, and he assumed I had been taking it regularly for ten years. I corrected him and said I only took it for two weeks at the time, and never again, but again, he assumed I was lying. I ended up seeing a specialist for my stomach and with two different antibiotics my stomach problems, which never involved heartburn, went away entirely. Based off the other reviews, maybe he was having a bad day, but needless to say I will not be seeing him again in the future nor would I ever recommend him to any of my friends.

Doctor Long has been my doctor since he was stationed in Redondo Beach and I didn’t hesitate to follow him when he decided to make his move to Long Beach! He’s an excellent doctor! He actually listens to what you have to say and takes the time to teach you a little more about whatever is going on with your health. I like that he follows up regularly and always sends you reports on results with next steps. I never feel rushed and have always had a positive experience. His staff is just as attentive and friendly. I can’t imagine going to any other primary doctor!

I found Dr Long on a whim, my son needed a physical Asap and he was the closest physician in my area. After the one visit I called my health care plan and made him my children’s primary. He was respectful and attentive to my 13 year old. Dr Long spoke to him, looked him in the eye told him what he had to do to help himself. We didn’t feel rushed, he answered questions and educated us. Dr. Long is now my Primary physician also. His office staff has been great to us as well.

There are a lot of doctors between Redondo Beach and Long Beach, but I choose to drive to Dr. Long. He is an outstanding passionate doctor, listener, educator, trustworthy, kind and professional.

I am really enjoying Dr. Long. I’ve seen him about 5 times over the past year. He is patient, a good listener and calls with results in the time frame he says he’ll call. I like the way he pulls out his anatomy book to teach me what the problem is or could be. I am not sure how long he has been practicing, I don’t think that long yet. Correct me if I am wrong. I would recommend giving him a try. It’s pretty easy to get an appointment with him verses Dr. Marshall (who I also enjoy seeing) which is an added plus.

Dr. Matthew Long is an attentive, involved and patient physician. He listens, he educates, he is thorough and he isn’t in a hurry. He also returns phone calls quickly. How many doctors can you say that about? I am a childhood cancer survivor. I have seen so many different physicians in different specialities my entire life. Most have been good, a few lemons but Dr. Long is great. If you are looking for a general practitioner for yourself, your friends or your family, I would strongly encourage you to start here.
