My family and I went here on a Saturday morning. We were led to our table by a very grumpy hostess. There was no wait at about 9am. Our waitress Gail was amazing! She was very personable as well as attentive. The food was very good and arrived fairly quick. This place has always been consistent and a favorite for my family for a long time!

Oh how I miss the PCH/2nd location and the Bixby Knolls location, both of which had bars, but they were turned into Lucille’s. At least this location has a large patio and plenty of parking. Hof’s Hut is always good… rotisserie chicken, honey mustard dressing, and anything from the bakery, particularly their olallieberry pies in season. But I love Hof’s Hut for the mashed potato omelette, which is off menu. Mashed potatoes, sour cream, cheddar cheese, green onions, and bacon wrapped in a buttery scrambled egg blanket. I pooped just thinking about it. Please go… before Mr. Hof changes this one to a Lucille’s too. In this case, please hassle the Hof. Keep Hof’s Hut!

We love Hof’s Hut, and we’re very sad that they seem to be disappearing. They’ve been around a long time. They have upscale diner-style food, with breakfast all day, Great, strong brewed iced tea. I love the Hof’s breakfast skillet, although I substitute mushrooms for the sausage and meat. My husband is addicted to their pot roast and their chicken salad. He always has trouble choosing. He also loves the homemade muffins, which are large and excellent. We come here a lot. it’s one of our go-to places for breakfast. The burgers are great, the food is delicious. Salads are crisp and fresh, and a nice variety. I like the Cobb. We used to love the Hof’s at Marina Pacifica, and go there a lot for drinks and dinner in the lovely bar at the back, but it’s been replaced by a non-vegetarian friendly Lucille’s, so we don’t go there anymore. Los Altos is the one we go to now, and it’s great for breakfast and lunch, but not a great atmosphere for a dinner date. Still a favorite, and we hope it doesn’t disappear.

Great food and service. Hofs burger with great big onion rings or fries. Great sauce. Fish, soup vegetable, chicken tortilla and soup of the day. Salads. Grilled cheese, pork chops, omelet yes fabulous. Albacore the great earth, on squaw bread. Fresh made pies. Individual’s are available. Good to take out also. Fresh fruit is also worth the trouble. Cheese bread and garlic bread also a delight. Never a bad meal. More than 30 years going there. Baked potatoes also available.

Hof’s Hut delivers on what it promises: good, solid, all-American fare. It is great if you want a really big, satisfying breakfast for a reasonable price. However, don’t expect to be blown away by the taste or the service. They are decent, but not impressive. This is the kind of spot you go to if you’re just in the mood to grab a hearty, tasty meal on your way to something else you have planned. I wouldn’t call this a «destination» restaurant. Also, unless you are a voracious eater, expect to take home some leftovers… their portions are generous!

Update: After my poor review last rime, Hof’s Hut graciously offered to comp my next meal if I’d them a second chance. So kudos for that, and thank you. I do appreciate when companies reach out after bad reviews. That said, the service this time was much friendlier. Much. The food was still… so so. I ordered a beer($ 5-ish), fish and chips($ 15-ish), and an individual strawberry pie($ 5-ish). The beer was beer. The pie was good. The fish and chips wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t amazing, and the fries arrived a bit cold as well. $ 15 is a bit steep for fish and chips. My recommendation — lessen the massive portions that nobody can finish anyway, then lower prices. If you want basic, no frills American comfort food, you’ll probably dig this place. I think this is a wash for me. However, I’ll probably be stopping back for a coffee and pie.

Hof’s Hut Restaurant & Bakery has been around for decades and is a staple within the Long Beach/South Bay communities. What used to be several store locations throughout the South Bay area, is now down just three locations. The Los Altos store location is my favorite. I have been a consistent customer for years; usually grabbing a bite to eat just before going one block down the street to Amazing Comics(check out my review on my profile page). They have all kind of food choices and serve generous portions. My usual meals are: Breakfast — black tea, freshly squeezed orange juice, turkey bacon and pancakes. Lunch– health club sandwich. Dinner– Cajun style salmon, two sides(I alternate among vegetables, rice pilaf and fresh fruit), and a side of garlic bread. They are also know for their year-round and seasonal pies. My favorite is their Oreo cookie cheesecake. The restaurant has indoor and(enclosed) outdoor dining areas. The staff is always friendly and most of the servers are very good. The few times I have had issues with my order, they were always addressed and resolved. Don’t forget to tip if you like their service! Notes: — I have seen the restroom in various states, but it is mostly clean. Tips: — On Wednesdays, kids eat free with adult meal purchase(current as of this 4÷26÷16 post). — Don’t sit in the indoor booth just outside the restroom. You can smell remnant odors from the bathroom. It is the only bad seat in the indoor portion of the restaurant. — If you come to Hof’s Hut and it is busy, and you are pressed for time and don’t really care where you are seated, you can ask the host/ess for«first available» seating, or if any of the seats right in front of the kitchen are open, you can ask to be seated right away in that area.

Coffee was strong and hot. Breakfast served all day, which is a big plus in my breakfast loving book. I stuck with garden omelet and it was a solid choice. Other options are on the menu were traditional omelet so and other breakfast fare. Mine came with fruit, but their other options are«those potatoes» which I highly recommend! The food was good, but nothing too amazing. We were happy and satisfied in the midst of what looked like Friday brunch chaos. Grab the family and get over to Hop’s hut for a hearty breakfast and a friendly face!

Sooooo good!!! We were visiting my mom from out of town and she brought us here. I was worried it was a place for mostly elderly to eat but it was fantastic food! Husband got fish and chips which he loved and the strawberry kiwi orange cheesecake which was normal cheesecake with a topping. I had the patty melt with bacon and sweet potato fries, soooo good! The parmesan cheese crusted bread was delicious! I had some of the chocolate silk pie, not so great. I want to come here every time I visit Long Beach!

A little taste of Long Beach. Hof’s Hut is a place to take some one of any age to enjoy a good meal. The best part is many of the restaurants in this chain have a pub in the back. A place to step back into time and enjoy a cocktail.

Service was super slow and not terribly friendly. And how come I can’t order a simple side of fries without ordering a massive appetizer portion or a full meal that includes fries? I know people native to Long Beach love this place for sentimental reasons. But as a non-native resident, I’m fine with saying I’m never coming back.

Free dessert for signing up for their mailing list, but it took a while to actually get the coupon(~1 month). I got their chocolate cake to go and it was delicious. Way too rich to eat alone, though. The woman at the cash register was a little short with me, but she was probably just having a bad day. Make sure to print off the coupon, because they need a copy for their records.

Love house hut, but won’t be back on the weekends. Crowded as hell as of they were giving food away for free and a short staffed team don’t mesh well.

I have been contacted by Hof’s with an apology and I do believe that this was just one off night. Can’t wait until I come back to Long Beach to try them again.

I don’t eat at a terrible lot of chain restaurants, especially when it comes to breakfast food. I love hofs hut. Good fish and chips, Great breakfast queasadilla. Even the huevos rancheros are really good. Good french toast. Banana nut muffin loaded with nuts! I mean, come on people, what’s with all the bogarting of the nuts? Friendly and pleasant! yum! This is their best location,(yes I have been to all of them!) Did i mention great pies and coffee? Unimpressed with the after breakfast menu, save a few items.

So we’re here having dinner with an expired coupon. Buy one get one. We dine in style. Service was a wee bit slow but we have our phones so it’s all good. I had the Juevos Rancheros. Everything was great.

Ordered the eggs benedict here on my first visit, and I was impressed with the presentation! I was not expecting a whole steak of ham sliced in half for the eggs benedict, and heavily drenched in hollandaise sauce, which I had no problem with. You can also substitute hollandaise with cheese sauce if you prefer. Service is excellent, and I will definitely come back with family.

Decided to give this location another chance and I’m glad I did. The food was a complete turn around from my last review! My potato skins were crispy and moist, and just perfect all over! :* Much improved from last time. My boyfriend’s soup was just the right temp, and his cornbread moist. And as always, the chicken tortilla soup is on point. Just like last time, the service was decent, our waitress was nice, and food came out quickly. I’ll be back.

I have only been here the one time and have never been to any other location. It has a Marie Calenders type feel to it. We went around 4 pm on a Monday. We were seated right away and the older gentleman was friendly. Our server Evonne was friendly and greeted us within a couple minutes of us being seated. She took our drink orders and brought them quickly. She was always very on top of our drinks and was quick with bringing things we asked for. The menu is huge and has so many options it’s almost overwelming. Everything sounds delicious. Evonne was very knowledgeable about the menu which is refreshing. My bf is super boring and ordered his usual eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast breakfast. He said the bacon was overly salty but was still pleased with his meal, especially the hashbrowns, crispy and not greasy(not many places in lbc have actual hashbrowns). I ordered the French dip sandwich added swiss cheese with onion rings. I have to say I really liked the sandwich. I’m kind of a cheese snob and was a little disappointed because they use a cheaper processed cheese, but I still liked it. The au jus was really salty and I love salty foods but it still went well with the sandwich. I loved their onion rings as well, they were perfect, not too greasy. It was a bit pricey in my opinion coming to $ 36 with 2 drinks and a mini pumpkin pie which I haven’t tried yet. It’s a great place IMHO if you want a lot of variety and a decent meal. It’s not fancy, the service was great but a little pricey for me to go on a regular basis, but I will go back and would recommend this place.

Best Banana Crème Pie Ever… I stopped into this Los Altos Location to grab something from the bakery for dessert later and found these fresh baked mini pies. They had several to choose: apple, cherry, pecan, pumkin, and chocolate crème or coconut crème. I saw the banana crème and was sold. The regular sized pies I buy ALWAYS go in the trash half eaten. These mini pies were the perfect size. One bite and I was hooked. The crust was buttery and flaky(not dry or gummy) — almost cookie like. The banana pudding to homemade whipped cream ratio was perfect. And the toasted almonds on top added the nice lil crunch. Thumbs up indeed.

Clean family friendly place. We sat in the ousted covered patio and it was nice and warm. They have the heaters spread out enough to make it comfortable. Try the fish/shrimp & chips. We submitted for the garlic fries. …yummy. Would of given five start but the tuna melt was a bit stingy on the amount of tuna they placed on the sandwich and too much cheese and the bread was warm, not toasted.

This is one of your last chances to get it before it disappears. Hof’s on Bellflower Blvd is one of the last remaining Huts where you can enjoy some great food. Bacon and eggs with link sausage or bacon and hash browned potatoes! The best! Lunch has me ordering the tuna melt with a cup of chicken tortilla soup. The one wish is that one of the other locations with the lounge had survived. This location doesn’t do booze. Hof’s is or at least, was a Long Beach tradition for many. As locations closed or changed to other things, so did the Long Beach eatery landscape. Hof’s on Second Street was the last place you could go for a wonderful ambiance. People try to create what Hof’s had and Hof’s, threw it away. Who doesn’t want a great breakfast, spectacular lunch and warming dinner with a wonderful ambiance? Hof’s on Second and Pacific Coast Highway, was the last place you could enjoy cocktail hour in the retro lounge. That is, after the Bixby Knolls location burned down. What’s next? Another Lucille’s? Another uppity Saint on Second? By the way, what is the deal with that new store? I tried dinner there the other night. Menu makes no sense at all. Prices for what you get. No bueno!

While en route to the VA to take care of some paperwork, I stopped by this gem to have my next meal. I used to come here during my undergrad years a lot, and decided to stop by for nostalgic reasons. Also, the food is awesome, so that had something to do with it ;-) I was seated rights away, and served coffee. The coffee was pretty good as I remember it. I ordered the Hoff breakfast special. This included two scrambled eggs, two pieces of turkey bacon, and pancakes. I added some glazed peaches on top, as it was part of their current promotion. The eggs were on point, the bacon was crisped to perfection, and the pancakes with peaches were phenomenal. The customer service was as great as I remembered it as well. Patrons were mostly senior citizens. You get a wide variety of people later in the day. I’d recommend stopping here for breakfast or brunch.

Located across the street from CVS, in a plaza with plenty of parking in the back(FREE street parking may be a challenge, but is available). This Hof’s Hut restaurant has been here in Long Beach for a long time and I have only been here for a sit down meal about once in my life. If I was to review this restaurant solely on the food(minus the desserts), I would probably give this place either 2 stars or 3 because the food wasn’t that great. But what is worth coming here is their pies! They sell cream pies(my favorite) and also fruit pies(like traditional apple pie for all of you purists out there) and so forth. They also do sell little tarts and cinnamon buns as well(never had them but I’m pretty sure they are good too). Anyways, on my most recent visit this afternoon around 1:30 pm, I stopped by here before heading back to the San Gabriel Valley with my husband to pick up a pie. I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t that many pies out(they also sell cheesecakes and large fruit tarts here). The employee who was helping me told me that whatever I see in the case is all that they have(I know at Marie Calendar’s and at Coco’s, if you do not see the pie that you like in their display case, most of the time they have other ones in the back). But decided upon getting the strawberry and banana cream pie($ 14.99. The banana cream pie next to it was $ 13.99). As soon as we got home, I cut out two slices for the both of us to have(why share when you got such a big pie?). The bottom of this cream pie is layered with banana slices and cream(on a flaky pie crust) with delicious large strawberries on top… what else could you want in a dessert(well besides it being calorie free… but I can’t make that happen… no one can)? The price for this pie is pricey, but comparable to other restaurant bakeries. By the way, the woman’s restroom was decent upon this visit. Also there is outdoor seating(so perhaps just may be dog friendly). Wished there was WiFi here.

I LOVE Hof’s Hut: D If you want a satisfying hearty meal that makes you feel at home, then I strongly suggest you check this restaurant out. There is a wide variety of different dishes to try including steaks, ribs, pasta, seafood, chicken pot pie, pies in general, etc. They all looked all appetizing which made it hard to choose. I ended up choosing the Shrimp Scampi Pasta which consisted of linguine noodles, Romano cheese, tomatoes, basil, and garlic sautéed shrimp. I was a bit hesitant because it sounded bland due to the lack of sauce(their other two pasta dishes had pesto sauce), but I’m glad I made this choice. It was delicious! AND it’s relatively healthier than most pasta dishes in general. My friend ordered the meatloaf which came with cornbread, mashed potato with gravy, and cream of corn. I am usually not attracted to dishes like this, but it was very tasty. The cornbread had the prefect consistency. The best cornbread I’ve ever had. The mashed potato and meatloaf were good; it seemed like the same gravy was used for both. My friend had a birthday coupon. That meant free cake in addition to having a discount on the whole meal. We had the choice of chocolate or carrot. We picked the carrot(unpopular choice, I know xD). The cake looked like a donut. It was very good; not the best, but GOOD! The service was fantastic. They were very kind and patient especially considering the fact that I take forever to order. Also, to our amazement, all the dishes came under 10 minutes after we ordered. That was surprising. Good job Hof’s Hut :) You’ll be seeing a lot more of me in the future!
