Our first time ordering from here… have to say it will not be our last. We feel very fortunate to have this Gem in our district. Everything we ordered was delicious… I highly recommend Handys for your next family gathering, or just because!

Got Brisket sandwiches for dinner. Super tender and the sauce was just right. Macaroni salad was great. We’ll be back. Glad I finally tried this. Only bummer is the parking but you can work off some calories parking down the street.

Handys is my favorite neighborhood find! Some of my favorites are the pastrami, Tri-tip, and albacore spread – all amazing!

Pulled pork sandwich. Go for it. You will not be disappointed. So friggin tender and just the right amount of sweet/savory, that BBQ sauce is amazing. You can also really appreciate the smoked taste infused in each bite. I was very impressed by this unassuming place. Word of advice. Would call your order in ahead of time as it can take a bit to prep. We ordered 5 sandwiches for lunch and were told to drop by in 40 – 50 min since there was a rush. That way you can just show up, pick up your good eats, and enjoy! :) And nope, this is not a sit in and eat kinda place. All orders are carryout.

Pulled pork was fine. Beef brisket, the acid test for any BBQ joint, should not be thin sliced, like with a machine. It should be thick sliced or chopped with a knife. At any rate, it wasn’t great shakes, kinda chewy, which well-cooked brisket should not be. Reminded me of round. The chili is poorly conceived. It’s should be its own dish, not something with bbq tossed in… and salty. I don’t care about price for great BBQ, but the mediocre experience made this a poor value.

The chicken links are delicious pan fried or grilled. Although the price is kinda costly.($ 8.25/lb). It’s wort it to support local businesses. Highly recommend this place for small quantities of delicious meats to grill from poultry to fish it’s here. They even serve sandwiches for those that want a guick bite.

tight parking lot ! Getting in snd out can be slightly frustrating because if the wrong way drivers exiting and entering the plaza! Handicap space is small for those needing it(not big enough for vans) it is clean inside and the smell that permeates outside is pleansant to smell and breathe in! Only problem i had was coming in around 1:40pm on a thursday afternoon. No one was at the counter to take my order!!! i waited for a while and decided to leave and go to Bludsoe’s in Compton instead! wish i could have tried it out but no one was at the counter! next time i will write a review about the food!

Tried this place out a few weeks ago, sandwiches are great here. Sides are a bit small and the price is higher than subway but the quality and taste is superior.

I’ve seen this place for a long time but never went in because the name, smoked meats made me think of beef and pork which we don’t eat. However, we love smoked fish. One day in Willmore Wine Bar they served us smoked yellowtail from here and it was possibly the best we’ve had. Since then we have gone there for smoked salmon, albacore and more yellowtail. This man knows how to smoke fish.

My husband and I love their beef ribs, chicken wings, and salmon ! It is a little pricey but definitely can’t get this at a restaurant.

Ordered brisket and pastrami sandwiches. They were okay, nothing great. Definitely not worth the $ 10 per sandwich. I recommend The Oinkster if you’re looking for a great pastrami sandwich.

Three and a half stars, if I could. I like this place but it is not without its problems. This place has me super frustrated. It is a bare bones BBQ joint mostly serving to go.(Only one table) The food, I had baby backs and brisket, comes cold, wrapped in butcher paper. You are then supposed to take it home, wrap in foil and heat up in your oven. I don’t have a huge problem with this except this bare bones concept is not cheap. $ 24 for the rack(albeit a HUGE rack) and $ 19 lb for brisket, which isn’t awful, I’m just wondering why I’m doing all the work and still paying what seems like full fare. I mean, I even have to provide the foil AND the BBQ sauce is extra. Now on to the food… The brisket doesn’t really look that great, it is sliced thin and looks a little pale, and was only so-so tender, BUT, fantastic smoke flavor. I devoured the pound immediately. As for the ribs, pretty much the same thing. Great, great flavor, but not super tender and left me thinking, meh. I would probably go back, since it’s very close to my house, but I don’t think I’ll ever fall in love with their business model.

Stumbled on this place and so glad I did. I had the pulled pork sandwich… the BEST pulled pork sandwich I have ever had! no soggy bun, perfectly sauced. It’s not a sit-down kind of place, it’s takeout. With that being said, when I got home it was still warm, the bun wasn’t soggy, and it was really delicious.

I was pleasantly surprised to meet such a friendly owner, Dave. I sampled the smoked yellow tail, yummy. I also tasted a chicken link that Dave was proud of. It was delicious. Handy opened in 1987. I will go back even though it is out of my price range.

My baby and I needed good food fast she wanted a hot link and here we are. She’s more of a fan of Handy’s than I and really enjoys the pork hot links but for some reason today she said that her hot link tasted like chicken and she did not like it even after she topped it with our KC masterpiece BBQ sauce. It was no Bueno for her but this child of mine is really picky so who knows. I tasted it but did not taste chicken It was a mix of beef and pork? and it was pretty good to me, the link was nice and flavorful with a tender bite and it was juicy too, my lunch(hers) was awesome but she’s still hungry. Lol The food is pretty good over her most of the time but it’s way too pricy and the portions are too small for what they charge, but that’s just my opinion. And you will not get full on the tiny side dishes. Lol BTW: place is always busy and is quite popular with the locals so I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the mood for smoked meats. On thanksgiving I would love to try their smoked turkey but we will see.

Wanted some brisket from Bludso’s, but found out they are closed on Mondays. Next choice was My Father’s Office… But they are closed Mondays as well. Unilocaled barbecue & Handy’s seemed like the next best move. I made a phone order for 1 pound of sliced brisket & a rack of ribs. Unfortunately, the barbecue sauce is not included, so I paid an extra $ 5 for some. My total came out to about $ 50. By the time I got home, the food was no longer warm. However, after broiling it in he oven on high for 4 – 5 min(with the sauce), I was extremely happy & satisfied from my first to last bite. Handy’s is really delicious & I will be back. The food has lasted me & my bf for 5 days(we ate it once a day) & still tastes amazing every time! Again, just throw it in the oven for 4 – 5 min & broil it on high! One negative thing is that the barbecue sauce made my bfs stomach hurt. After 2 attempts of eating the meat with it, he used a diff barbecue sauce(Lucille’s), & no longer had stomach pains. HOWEVER, I used the sauce & found it delicious! .& my stomach was fine ;) Oh lastly, customer service was good. The man working the cash register was friendly & welcoming. #goodvibes

Finally made the time to drive down to this shop and boy was I glad! First off I have to say I love the cleanliness of the entire store… well decorated, it almost feels like home walking in. The owner is very pleasant and easy to talk with and the whole experience was just awesome for me. Now… on to the food! Full slab of baby back ribs = $ 20. That is an insane price in my humble opinion! They come cold so you have to reheat them(he gives you specific instructions on how to do that) and man are they good! Why would I smoke my own ribs anymore when he’ll do all the work and all I have to do is warm them up? He let me try a few of his spreads and they were all delicious, but, I opted for the albacore! Wow … the flavor punched me in the mouth! I’m getting ready to chow down on the chicken wings(5 wings… but portion is HUGE)…to be continued! :)

So I had the brisket sandwich with Mac salad, was quite good. Not a fan of very thinly sliced brisket but was still good. The sauce was ok, not fantastic. I’d go back again though, especially to try a different sandwich. I have to say, the Mac salad was definitely not a store bought salad, was their own recipe and was very good. A lot of flavor, and by far the best Mac salad I’ve ever had. That will make me come back for seconds, to try with another sandwich.

Holy meat feast, Batman! Thank you Unilocal for leading us to this hidden gem! We will be coming back every time we’re in town. ***Keep in mind that this is a Take Out only establishment. When you walk through the door, make sure your mouth is shut, because the savory, aromatic assault on your sense of smell will jump start an involuntary«gleek» fest. The employees and owner are super nice and helpful with suggestions – as it really is difficult to choose. We chose the beef brisket sandwich, the pulled pork sandwich, and the beef brisket chili.(No beans) The brisket sandwich was incredible… until we had the pulled pork sandwich. OHMY! It was amazing!!! Rich, smoky flavor paired with a great BBQ sauce that wasn’t over-powering, which allowed the pork to be the star of the show. The brisket chili was the best I have ever had, which is saying something, considering the fact that I am a chili whore. The combination of the smokiness and heat was spot on perfection. Friggin’ awesome!!! The side of cole slaw was tasty, but minuscule. I laughed at how teeny it was when I pulled it out of the bag. But the copious amounts of meat on the sandwiches more than made up for it. And for all of you vegetarians out there… YES, they do serve vegetarians.(What do you think cows and hogs are?)
