You need not wonder why it closed. A friendly, happy proprietress could have made all the difference.

ITISCLOSED! So I received a private message from someone that used to work here and they told me the place closed in mid Jan of this year. Save your money and don’t buy any coupons from for this place. You won’t be able to use them! Very sad.

Straightforward good service, which even in this recession, is surprisingly rare. The food is good — meat tender and tasty. No big slabs of meat drowned in sauce here. There’s a depth to the flavoring that makes for an interesting dining experience — one where I want to slow down and savor tastes. The menu(including the specials) reflects the Southern California body-consciousness in that there are many, many, many items served **without cream** and that are on the lighter side of French cuisine. The anchovy-basil condiment that comes with the sliced baguettes is also tasty. Our appetizers — quail on a bed of spinach with herbs and mixed mushrooms sauteed with herbs — were also delicious. We skipped dessert. Our entrees were the pork tenderloin(emphasis on the tender) and rack of lamb(very, very good). Fridays, they serve lunch from 11:30am-2:30pm(the only day they serve lunch). A nice quiet place. Discreet. Also, not stuffy and pretentious. The menu is completely in English and no one acts as if they’re too rarefied to serve you a meal. There’s parking in back and while the stalls are nicely-sized for contemporary cars, the spacing between car stalls is narrow so drive carefully.

«Rustic» French food worth wandering in for. Frenchy’s is one of those hidden treasures, situated in a nondescript strip mall on Anaheim street(in the original Khory’s location — if you’re an Old Timer like me and even remember when Khory’s used to be located here). You’d likely miss it if you weren’t looking. But if you do manage to wander in, you will be surprised at how romantic and delightful the interior styling is, and frankly, I think the food is wonderful too. Nice wine list, excellent service, prix fix menus available, seasonal fresh ingredients, monthly wine or cheese events with a menu that compliments, gorgeous desserts, etc. This is one of those little eateries in Long Beach that I always forget to frequent, but when I do find my way back, I always wish that I’d come sooner! Bön Appetit!

I’ve never been here as a regular customer, so my experiences here are probably a little different from the norm. I’ve been to Frenchy’s Bistro twice, both times for a French Club banquet. We had a set menu, with a little bit of variety so we could choose what we wanted. I don’t remember everything we ate, and not everything might be on their regular menu, but I remember tasting: escargot, french onion soup, pâté, some meat dish, some kind of fish dish + veggies, and pine nut dessert with jasmine? ice cream.(These are just the dishes I remember) Alright, my list isn’t exactly the most helpful. But I can tell you that every single dish I tasted was absolutely delicious.(Except the pâté, which is liver. I think it’s an acquired taste…) Some dishes that stood out to me were the french onion soup and the pine nut dessert. They were both fantastic, and I swear, I’m getting hungry thinking about them now. Btw: This place is kind of hard to find. It’s on the big/main street, but it’s a little inconspicuous, and you might pass it while looking for it, so be careful!

The food here was good, but that is coming from someone who doesn’t know a ton about traditional French food. If you’re an ex-pat, or an enthusiast, I’m not sure how this place stacks up, but coming from an un-biased palate, this place makes good food. Everyone complains about the little breads! I didn’t think they were stale, but purposefully toasted to be crunchy, and tasty with that spread, i might add. Duck confit was very very nice. The ambiance, and service, was kind of weird. We sat in the back room, and it was pretty good. But that front room did not look fun. And it was a bit empty on a Saturday night, we kind of felt like we had to be quiet. Our waiter seemed new to the restaurant and service in general. He was awkward. Good, but really, for the price, I don’t think I’ll be going back. The décor is a bit dated, not offensive or anything though. It’s just a little French restaurant trying to do its thing, but if you’re going to spend that much in Long Beach you could be enjoying some oysters and ocean views.

Overpriced in a old-out of style dark empty restaurant with staff who doesnt even know what they are selling or serving. Wine list is outdated with wrong vintage. «WILD» mushroom medley is a mix of crimini and white mushroom, nothing wild about it($ 10), Arlequin Soufflé is served with watery chocolate or Grand Marnier«sauce» like light hot coco($ 12). Most of the menu has nothing to do with french food. A big disappointment for $ 134. Reviewers, are you sure we are talking about the same place or you have a misconception what real french food taste like? Sorry!!!

My husband and I came here since we love French food. We were excited about having some traditional French cuisine. Much to our disappointment it was more like a fusion of ‘I don’t know what’ and country side comfort foot. We tried the brie and a salad for appetizers. Neither was impressive. For our entrée, we ordered the lamb shank with mashed potatoes and I think there was about a teaspoon of mashed potatoes to a hefty cup of gravy and somewhere hidden in the mix was a fatty shank. It was tender though. The flavors were nice but the presentation was messy. More like a stew. We ordered the half chocolate and half grand marnier soufflé at our waiter’s recommendation only to have the wrong soufflé brought at the end. Would we go back… not really… too many other tempting places to try.

I came here with a bunch of friends(who arrived really late). Frenchy’s is kind of in the middle of no where, and my friends who I carpooled with definitely wondered if we were in the right place. We were. Now, the staff was pretty friendly. They were really attentive while we were waiting for the rest of my friends. Wine selection was, okay, however I think they ran out of one of the wines that my friend was drinking. Food was delish. I had the braised lamb shank and it was so tender and the sauce was wonderful. We also had a chocolate soufflé which was awesome. I’d highly recommend this restaurant, however I think it’s more a fancy date night place, rather than a place for 15 people to have a group dinner. However, it was really nice even if it was a little bit in the middle of nowhere in Long Beach.

You’ve got try Frenchy’s summer menu. Both the food and prices are excellent. Our fav on the menu is the lamb shank. Happy eating! Oh, the dipping sauce is tasty too. We treasure these little gems in LBC.

Very quiet and quaint restaurant in Long Beach… maybe because it was Wednesday… I have to say the website and location could not do this place justice, at all. But once there… completely different story and the food stands for itself. When you reach the location, it looks like it’s closed… lack of signage and front windows give this impression. Parking lot is in the side and back, but might have to share looking with the neighboring bar next door(more on this later). Once inside the waiting area, you’re greeted by a clay rooster placed on a table and(as previously mentioned by a reviewer) a hand-made jewelry stand on the right side sitting on top of some dining tables… weird…but different. We took up a table in the section near the bar. Despite all the other«novelty’s» of Frenchy’s Bistro, once seated it was a totally different experience. Taking into consideration it was a Wednesday night, the place was quiet and pretty empty… ah alas a perfect setting for a pre-mother’s day feast(to say the least) for my sister and mom. Had the whole place to ourselves. We started with a french bread and a ‘basil and anchovy’ house dip. There was a very jazzy-eclectic soundtrack playing that made the place even more relaxing. THEGOODS: *Napoleon of Bucheron Goat Cheese with Organic beets as an opening salad. *King Salmon… good size fillet, with the accompanying crab and lobster sauce. *Baby Farm Rack of Lamb over polenta and veggies… about 8 – 9 good sized chops, made to order *Braised Beef Short Ribs, with a scoop of Mashed Potatoes and Veggies… slides off the knife-good *prompt service and very helpful ‘added facts’ about preparation by the staff. *The Souffles need to be ordered as soon as you get your main course… unfortunately we didn’t want to wait 20 min’s for prep time… sadly because they gave us a sample taste, and I could say that we will never forget to order it ahead of time again. THEBAD: *The bar next door tends to pour out to the street and right in front of the restaurant… and even with the thick glass and door insulation, the noise and rowdiness still can make it in and disrupt the place’s setting. *the parking lot tends to have a lot of uneven gravel and potholes. Nothing to keep you away from the place, but an FYI. Overall, very good and highly recommended. I will make it a task to go back to order the soufflé on time… and finish sampling the rest of their entrees… and get some more of that basil dip… and…let’s just say I’ll be going back soon…

Very nice, small restaurant with great service and food. I had the duck as recommended by other Unilocalers, my husband tried the filet. They were both great, though my husband had wished the filet was a little more pink. There are two sides of the restaurant, the side where you enter is rather odd as it has shelves of jewelry that you can buy in the middle of the walkway. I thought that was rather odd. But we had a table in the back area where the bar is located. That side is much better for a nice quiet, date. The location isn’t that great as it is on a major street. We heard a car back-fire and I jolted. :). There isn’t very much to walk around in the area if you are looking to stroll after dinner. Small amount of parking, too. Definitely a place I would come back to eat. Gotta love little restaurants in Long Beach.

This is a pricey restaurant… so the one time I went they had a special going on. I hope they bring it back again… each day of the week they had a different dinner for just $ 10!!! Yeah that’s right, just $ 10! The day I went it was their Maple Leaf Farm Duck Breast. The duck was so moist and tender… hmm delicious. I loved the sauce and the potatoes. Got a bottle of wine and that made the dinner perfect. I mean the whole experience was great, saving $ 15 off the normal price for the dinner was awesome! Really hope they do another promotion like that. It was my only time there and I really wish I had enjoyed the other specials going on that month. Frenchy’s please bring that promotion back… ppppplease! :)

Doesnt get any better in LB than frenchys. Madame is quite a treat, shes funny, knows her food, and treats you like one of her own(unlike paris, which is enough reason to go to frenchys). What we had: kir royals(sp?) 2003 boudeux, forgot from where, but madame helped reccomend a perfect pairing to our meaty choices. Chartucrie plate– some tasty salami, pâté, cured hams. Nothing ground breaking but a really good sharing plate. tuna tartare-standard, but very well done and fresh braised lamb shank– ZOMGBBQPIZZA this was so good. i would go back for this everytime duck– so tender, so flavorful, very good. soufflé– whats not to like about molten chocolate heaven? I hope frenchys lasts, long beach needs all the culinary support it can get. Check out their themed/special dinners too.

They have changed their menu a bit since I last visited, and I was a little disappointed with the halibut I had, as well as the flat steak that my boyfriend had — both flat in flavor and nothing compared to the excellence I once experienced with their other foods. But the food that the rest of the group had(salmon, beef rib, lamb, soup du jour) were top quality as I had experienced before. As always, the appetizers and desserts are exceptional, as is the personality of the madame! The assistant son, however, let’s just say he needs to sharpen his skills and think ahead and be more on his toes. p. s. they only serve lunch on friday’s now, but worth it the last time i visited. i’m not so sure in recent times though, as i have not visited for lunch in some time.

Came here with my trusty Entertainment book coupon, buy one entrée get one free(up to $ 29). Restaurant is on a random street next to a bar, we came in and got seated quickly(with reservation). Food roundup: Tower of Bucheron: 3 medallions of brulee’d goat cheese(my fave Bucheron) on some greens. Was expecting a bit more cheese, but the greens were tasty and nicely dressed. I love bucheron the way it is, so having it warm was nice, but unnecessary. Lamb wrapped in eggplant: Lamb nicely cooked, but since it was wrapped in the eggplant, it was missing that lovely meaty crust I love. The 2 little cippolini onions that accompanied were yummy and vinegary. Duck: This dish was excellent! Perfectly pink duck breast in a wonderful jus. The” veggies” consisted of 2 red baby potato halves and 2 green beans across the top of the meat. Lowdown: I was a bit disappointed, the prices are a bit high for what you get. The main courses are mostly $ 20+ and really are just the protein, not much starch or veggie so you definitely need a starter and/or dessert to get full. Also they only had 1 server on a Friday night and service took forever, she did thank us for waiting though. The side room has a bit more ambiance, the main room is a bit dated. More like a 2, but they do make an excellent duck breast, so 3 stars.

Frenchy’s Bistro is located in the middle of nowhere in Long Beach. From the outside, the restaurant doesn’t look like much. Once inside, your hopes for a nice night out don’t increase. The place was deserted(it was a weeknight); we will there for a while, but no one else showed up. Still, the food was better than I thought it would be. I started with fried stuffed mushrooms and salad. It was actually pretty good. For my entrée, I had the sea bass which was served with pasta and kind of a honey-Asian sauce. It was decent; the sauce though was a little much. The only real disappointment came at dessert. I ordered the chocolate soufflé, and it looked great when they brought it out; however, it was kind of soupy in the center. My friend next to me was excited as well, but he didn’t even finish his. By the way, a 3 course dinner here(without drinks, tax, or tip) will run you about $ 35-$ 50.

Many of my reviews come down to expectations. When you come to a place like Frenchy’s, the expectations are super high especially at the price point. I am very the best of the best when I am spending a pretty penny on dinner. We went on a Saturday night with RSVP. Originally they put us at a table in the middle of the room right in front of the kitchen. I can’t imagine anything less romantic. I was slightly hesitant to ask for a change based on some of the reviews of the staff here but there was a pleasant surprise. The owner’s wife(so I hear) took us into the second room near the bar to an intimate table under a painting. All of a sudden, we have that feeling of being in French! She was so nice about everything. She reminded us many times to just take our time to order and enjoy the ambiance. When we asked for the wine recommendation, she first asked what we were thinking about having for dinner. Then she suggested a wine… it was a bit more than I wanted to pay but not too much more so I went with it. It was probably one of the best wines I have ever had at a restaurant. It was a French Pinot Noir($ 49). She told us what her three favorite appetizers were and we mulled over it a bit. We always do that at restaurants… it’s best to eat what they recommend/specialize in! The tomato tart tatin was probably the BEST appetizer I have ever had. I had never had it before but HIGHLYHIGHLY recommended. I just wish it was bigger because I was tempted to get another after splitting it with my wife. It’s basically an upside tart, with dried tomatoes and goat cheese and it absolutely bursts with flavor with every bite! For dinner, I ordered the lamb shank(struggled with that and the rack of lamb) and my wife had the sand dabs. My dish was a ton of food. We could have easily split it. I did not realize it was that big so that is definitely something to consider when you order it. The lamb fell off the bone as expected and was very tender and juicy– perfectly made. The sand dabs were to die for. I was a little jealous of her dish. It was made over rice and a much more manageable portion. It had that hint of lemon that really made this a very tasteful dish. The fish was absolutely made to perfection being very moist. For dessert, we followed the advice and took the chocolate soufflé. It was actually a bit smaller than what I expected and I was a little disappointed with the presentation. A random girl working there dropped off the soufflé along with a small container that looked like hot chocolate. I’ve had something similar to this before but if I had not, I would be clueless on how to eat this thing. I thought it was strange to just drop it off and expect someone to know what to do with this dish. As for the chocolate soufflé, it was good but it wasn’t the best I have ever had. Based on other reviews, I guess my expectations were much higher for this dessert especially since have to order it before eat so you spent all of dinner in anticipation of an amazing dessert. Overall, the ambiance was wonderful(I highly recommend the back room), the staff was excellent and super friendly, and the food was great!

Came here with the family on a sunday night, since my mother is still in her post-traveling dont want to cook mode. Immediately, I was nervous because the area like others mentioned is a little shady– there were these two guys standing in front of the store next door who were smoking out. We had called in advance for reservations, though for a sunday night in this economy, it wasn’t necessary. We were seated quickly, and the hostess kindly informed us of the specials. They have an extensive wine list, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My dad and bro are competing sommelier wanna-bes, always trying to one-up each other on their views on wine, but both agreed with the bordeaux that they selected. The pâté appetizer was, as it should be, appetizing. Dad got the filet mignon, mom got the lamb shank, i had the chilean sea bass, and bro got the sole which was one of their specials, and family friend got the crispy duck, and everyone enjoyed their food. The plus about this is that it’s french cusine but you won’t walk away hungry. The souffles(chocolate and grand marnier) are both delicious. The sauces are sweet but not overpowering, and the cake itself had a refined sweetness. The coffee is brilliantly brewed, and even if you take it black, it’s approachable and not bitingly bitter. Definitely will come back here again!

As the sort of person who accidentally wears ripped jeans and a t-shirt to a swank place she could never afford if her parents hadn’t taken her, my review won’t mean as much as the others who have reviewed Frenchy’s. Just sayin’. However, even though I’d had a 4/$ 1 frozen burrito for lunch, that didn’t stop me from enjoying Frenchy’s. The name is awful and you’d never expect it from the outside of the building, but this is a nice place on the inside: romantic lighting, linen napkins, and our server even had a French accent! A real one! Accordion music is piped in… all you need is a guy with a beret, striped shirt, and pencil mustache to practically BE in your own little France. Maybe also the Eiffel Tower. Frenchy’s DOES have an extensive wine list. Dinner will set you back; entrees are about $ 25. As a vegetarian, there weren’t too many options, but what I had was delicious: the mini herb ravioli appetizer was great, plus the teeny ravioli were adorable, and the vegetable plate with rice(actually a lunch menu item) was healthy, but not dull. Not much rice, and what was there was salty. The two items you get the most of are savory sauteed mushrooms, and shredded garlicky chard. There was also zucchini, squash, tomatoes, and a bit of carrot and Brussels sprouts, and all the veggies were cooked perfectly. I didn’t come close to finishing. My family was all very pleased with their entrees(salmon, steak, and monkfish) as well as with their appetizers(onion soup, brie plate, mushroom casserole). The chocolate soufflé for dessert was fluffy and moist, but not overly sweet, the warm chocolate cream over it was great. I think I’m still gonna be tasting garlic tomorrow, though.
