What a dump. I’m hoping it was cleaner than it looked. I guess you get what you pay for but geez, where’s all that money going? It sure isn’t going toward maintenance or upgrades. Wow.

UGH! ROACHINFESTED! This place has really gone downhill. Since 2005, DH and I have stayed here numerous times while in Long Beach. NEVER again. The number one reason we used to stay at Dons was the CLEANLINESS and lack of BUGS. Second reason was the PRICE… It was $ 40 plus tax in May, 2012. Now it is $ 55 plus tax! And for what? Cockroaches crawling all over the fridge, lamp, desk and nightstand? A broken toilet seat that won’t stay on the bowl and the owner won’t fix it even when asked? Big, dead spiders, egg sacks, and thick cobwebs hanging off the walls? Most of the drawer pulls missing? No microwave or coffee maker? No hangers for the giant, oversized, goofy, mobile clothing rack? Gross, dust-covered, ripped, ancient lampshades? Rusty old lamps? Missing globe on the bathroom light fixture? Sticky, cigarette burned carpet? No key for the deadbolt? A toilet that won’t even flush pee down completely cuz they skimped and installed a mechanism that should have been put in a tiny toilet? A dirty, sticky, ancient bathroom doorknob? Nowhere to set anything down in the bathroom, not even a toothbrush? Outdated, cigarette burned bedspreads? Nasty, water stained baseboards and walls? WTFO?! Quite obviously, they are just taking in money and not spending one dime on upkeep or improvements. Certainly nobody is checking the«maid’s» work and there is no bug spraying going on either. Skip this place, lest you be carried off in the middle of the night by the cockroaches or spiders. YUCK. This place is just NASTY. Go elsewhere! *NOTE* I can’t comment on their«free wi-fi“cuz I have my own mobile hotspot.

Yes, I have experienced better. I just left Don’s Motel and I can tell this place is just for someone looking for a nice quiet night(at a decent price) and do not need all the standard amenities offered at regular hotels. My only main issue was the«Non-working wi-fi» + an outdated bathroom. Lodging in Long beach is a bit expensive, but don’t expect too much when you’re on a tight budget. Good luck…

The problem with lodgings in Long Beach is that there are not a lot of mid priced hotels. You either pay 250 bucks to stay at the downtown Hyatt or 50 bucks to stay somewhere on PCH where you really don’t want to be. I decided to stay at Don’s Motel because I was exhausted and just needed somewhere to sleep and didn’t feel like driving home after an event. And I had already spent lots of money that weekend. So no Hyatt for me. Don’s Motel is a good bet if you want to spend less than 60 dollars and want to feel pretty safe. The room décor was outdated and old, but the room was exceptionally clean. There was free WiFi. A few cable channels on TV. No phone in room. No alarm clock. No coffee maker(urgh). But the neighborhood is relatively safe and there are numerous restaurants all within walking distance. If you like sushi, you are in luck. The motel shares their parking lot with a sushi restaurant. I didn’t eat there but I will say that the place was packed on Sunday night, with lots of people standing outside waiting to get in. Thats usually a good sign. When I checked in I noticed there was a list of house rules posted at the reception desk. Things like no visitors(seriously?), no alcoholic beverages in common areas(ok), no loud or boisterous activity(thank you). There were about 15 rules total, so I guess the owners mean business. The clerk was very nice and cheerful. Would I stay there again? Maybe.

Well, it turns out the noise wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be, and my back didn’t hurt in the morning. My fiancé said he could feel the springs in the bed when he rolled around, but he didn’t have any other big issues either. The WIFI did go in and out which was a little frustrating… but at least it existed. I forgot to mention they did have a refrigerator in the room. I wouldn’t completely rule it out in the future.
