This isn’t for the class or the martial arts This is for my personal experience as a programmer when it comes to asking them for contractual things. My issue is not that we didn’t get what we needed, it was the matter of the misunderstanding that needed clarification. It does not seem like either individuals had language barriers, yet getting inked signatures was rough. On top of that, I felt very offended and attacked when they called me for business. I was asked by the supervisor not contact them anymore. They also called me on a personal number that is not the number that was given to me from the website or the Unilocal page. The hours are off on Unilocal as well. I understand that this is a business and we must handle things professionally, but having been yelled and voice raised at when I was trying to help get them paid was the last straw. After discussion, I do not feel like I want to hire them, regardless of the merits, and regardless of what they have accomplished, it is disrespectful to verbally attack someone on the phone and using the term«I am not Asian and do you know what my Master will do to me when you cancel? My Dancers need to get paid because they took days off!» Feels like an undertone threat. Yes, I understand the consequences, and yes I take full responsibility. I was aiming to work something out with them but it seemed like I was advised not to. I am sure they are wonderful people and wonderful teachers etc, but his business really made me feel verbally attacked and offended. I did not negotiate any further due to being told not to. They do not pick up their work phone and they keep calling from their own phone and the are not responding when my supervisor left them a call and instead called me. I feel that this is becoming more of an issue than it really is. There way better performers out there and if I get blacklisted, so be it. I take responsibility but they won’t get paid and they won’t get anything from our establishment according to my boss. Contract also says the same if they have read it. As for that, this school will get a 1 star from me and that’s generous. Beyond that, I do not wish to do business with them or interact with them. I don’t like being verbally attacked on the phone and then getting calls back trying to butter me up. I take responsibility for having to move the events, but it’s a business, things happen, and one must be prepared to handle the worst case scenario. If one does not, then it shows how unprofessional the business is. Business hours on here are not accurate. I went Sunday, where it said it was open and no one was there. I don’t think they tried to do anything to fix this issue. So much disappointment.

I have taken Tai Chi /Qi Gong classes here off and on for 15 years. Sifu Manuel is the best teacher ever. He keeps it fun enough and hard enough. He teaches many different styles, Chen style, Yang style, Bagua zhang forms, even Wu Style. Many different healing Qi gong breathing exercises. I learned to meditate here. Can’t thank Sifu Manuel enough for all the great instruction I have received over the years. The school has been in business for 22 years at this location, pretty amazing.

Love this Kung fu school. I have taken my son to other martial arts school and never felt like a place I wanted to commit long term. Sifu Manuel and Sifu Rocky are so great with the students and you can tell they love teaching. My son loves coming here and never want to skip a class. I am so thankful that this school is around!

I’ve been meaning to leave a review on this school for quite a while now, and thought this would be the time. I have a martial arts background myself, and so I’ve been bringing my six-year-old son here for almost a year now to be trained… and he loves it! This place teaches traditional Chinese kung fu, so if you’re looking for a hard-code MMA training cage you’ll probably be disappointed here. However, if you are looking to learn REAL kung fu, both Northern and Southern styles, even tai-chi, then this is THE place in the South Bay. Checked around, and I know from talking to lots of other parents here that we have all looked at other martial arts schools in the area, including Taekwondo and karate schools. A lot of those other places are really hard on the kids, making them spar right from the beginning, even getting hurt… when what the teachers should really be doing is teaching kids fundamentals of both offense and defense. But Sifu Manual does this right. He also stresses the importance of character development in kids(and there are lots of adult classes here too, so all that I’m saying applies to them to.) Also taught is the importance of proper breathing, and strength and flexibility training. My son is so much STRONGER than when we started a year ago… other people have even noticed his straight back posture. It makes total sense to train the body first, because if you can’t breathe in a fight you’re not going to last very long, right? He also teaches the kids(and adults) weapons, including staff, sword, and knife, including how to defend against attackers) with weapons when all you’ve got is your bare hands. Also stressed is being able to defend yourself against multiple attackers at the same time. I know from my personal experience in the martial arts that you need to develop all-around, not just focus on kicks and punches, and sit around watching other students the whole class until it’s your turn. That doesn’t happen here. I sit here almost every class my son attends, and when I do I see students participating all class long, learning stances, learning to box(very cool to see kids boxing!) There’s no time to get bored(except maybe the stretching and standing in horse stance until your legs ache — ok I know, it builds strength!) He kinda puts the fear of God into them a little too, once in a while, but I’ve never witnessed anything mean or disrespectful. If you’re in the South Bay I can’t recommend this place strongly enough if you’re looking for real martial arts training which includes personal development — and you get both here for the same low price!

Went here in early 90’s for a while. The Sifu Manuel Marquez was the main Sifu at the time. He had two«assistants» one of them was really astute and knowledgeable, the other taught like an impatient alcoholic. I think it was Marquez’s brother. I learned a few things there but for the most part, Marquez was a showboat; he would use discipline it seemed more to set an example then to affirm«Shaolin tradition.» He would come in on Mondays as I recall, change into his«Gi» then do «butterfly kicks» halfway across the room while we were in «formation» and then ask us to do it. Hey, I have a great sense of humor but this dude was arrogant. The other sifus would actually have the audacity to say out loud that it might be time for belt testing because«I need to pay the rent» WTF?! Mike was cool, yet stern, but unfortunately, was overshadowed by the other two bozos. I originally went to the Thai Mantis back in the early 80’s with Sifu Kam Yuen, but I split after getting tired of his chief instructor at the time«Scott Cohen’s» abusive, drill sergeant style training method. Sifu Marquez is/was a «transplant» from this kwoon so I can see the unprofessional, lax instruction method like the Thai Mantis. I wouldn’t recommend going here if you’re serious about the Martial Arts. If you’re looking to take some«rape/self defense» classes, sure, waste a couple of bucks for the spring/summer or what have you, but that’s about it. Seriously, I can’t believe the place is STILL in business!
